Schwale Racing Ray and Racing Ralph Tires are actually pretty heavy...I would choose S-Works Fast Trak 2.3 tires front, and S-works Renegade 2.3 back. A dropper honestly isn’t necessary in trail or XC, it’s great in All-mountain and Enduro, but a properly adjusted fixed post can get you down pretty much any downhill in style(as long as it isn’t a Whistler double black or pro line). And as much as weights weenies are made fun of, it is necessary to have a light bike when racing XC, racing a lighter bike on 30 miles of uphills and downhills makes a significant impact on overall time, and when racers are within 5 minutes of each other, that 1 pound extra dropper is not worth it.

I built my steel Breezer Lighting with Pace forks back in 1996 which I converted to steel spring internals last year as the elastomers where gone and also after 24 years the tyres had to be replaced with now larger 2.1 Ritchey WCS (26" choice obviously not so good now) and it weighed in at a respectable 8.4 kg. Not full suspension obviously but good with no carbon in sight except the fork bottom tubes.. Rgds
