I love the line “Are you coming, or what? You’ve got my car keys!” implying that he wouldn’t have come back for his coworker had he had his car keys on him. It just shows how much more humanity Don and Andy have, than the actual unaffected humans.

Don and Andy show so much real compassion and empathy for eachother. It truly shows that they are truly still human. The reporter did not care that they were, he wanted a good story. Camera man on the other part seems to have a genuine interest in their story. These characters are so beautifully done, i would love to see them fleshed out more, and in a full length film.

It’s even worse to realise that this prejudice is an actual thing right now in the real world being held against real groups of people.

I feel like this film might also represent how society treats depression. Some people describe depression as ''turning into zombies". The two miss their old lives and want to go back to the times where everything was fine. The recharter represents how society refuses to help those people suffering. Despite the zombies expressing mentally and emotionally human emotions they are still treated as horrible monsters leading to the recharter leaving. Just like how depressed people are still humans but society ignores their problems because they're ''different"
@Raya-ix9xr

@mrvespuccia.k.ameganite1747
@mrvespuccia.k.ameganite1747 6 месяцев назад
@yourlowkeyidiot I kind of doubt it, since besides that one aspect of zombies representing depression there’s nothing suggesting that. That’s because the zombies in the short are demonized to the point where they’re forcefully segregated into ghettos and people want them to all die, since near the end of the short you could see graffiti on one of the walls saying “zombies go back to your graves”. That’s a far cry from how depression is viewed in real life since I’ve never seen anyone with depression be demonized this much. At most people have a callous, disappointed, “suck it up” attitude towards depression that’s not present in the short. Also the recharter can’t represent society ignoring mentally ill people since he’s actively trying to demonize them and push an agenda. If the recharter really represented society’s views on people suffering then he wouldn't have had an agenda and he would simply act disinterested and like his time is being wasted. Even if he had an agenda, it would make much more sense if it was to show how lazy and well off the zombies are, and instead of complaining about their pain they should just pull themselves on the bootstraps, not “look these zombies are still monsters and they should remain segregated bc they still want to kill people” Personally I think this short is supposed to represent something like allied occupation of Germany after ww2, where the people around them demonized the Germans and wanted them all dead, and there was a debate on if they should be allowed to be independent and reunify, which in the shorts case is being reintegrated into society.

I love the little details of the reporter only focusing on the bad or threatening things. And while the cameraman did the same sometimes (zooming in on Don's injury, and when he bared his teeth) they also zoomed in on Andy picking the flower back up, and the plants growing on the windowsill, and they stayed to show Don play Andy the harmonica before the reporter came back, I just think it was nice that they didn't immediately run away with the reporter.

I watched this 6 years ago completely unaware of the story, I didn't really like the visual aesthetic and moved on I think. But coming back to it now I can look beyond my dislike of the style and admire the skill that went into not only the aesthetic aspects of this video but also the messaging and writing. The unspoken parallels in here are just so well done. my favourite touch is the reporter, despite never being in any real danger he still goes out of his way to propagate fear for the zombies, not necessarily out of malice, but fear and ignorance. That is just such an accurate representation of the ignorant and fearful

Media just twist the reality and project a false message. Moreover they just show what they want to show instead of the truth. Just like most people in the society they just see people for what they see from the outside not for who really are underneath the hidden skin. Anyway this creation is highly appreciating. It deserves the recognition it gets and I wish it more.

I feel for both Andy and Don. Andy was really happy to talk with humans and was interested in seeing any possibility of integration. Meanwhile we have Don who is so jaded from his horrible experience of losing a career he was so passionate about and the discrimination he faces on a daily basis that he does not want to give the press the time of day. These two need each other because it seems the world is completely against them despite being cured of their affliction and posing no real threat. This short is essentially an allegory of race relations and how despite the law saying we are created equal there are others who are treated far differently and unfairly because of attitudes of a bygone era that still persist to this day. Despite Brown v. Board of Education integrating public schools in the 1950s, public schools are more segregated now than ever.

OR the message is about military people like normal soldiers, Whom get used as (some times) meat shields. They will send them out there ti fight even if they know they will die. Only for a military strategy or something. I think that's what Don, the big zombie was talking about. And the thin one, being nice and all, was showing to be "human" and the journalists called them a threat in pubblic. So yes, ur understanding was good but missed a little part :)

You can see how such a thing can take such an emotional toll on a person they may react differently to people they really need in a result they push everyone away, when people try to teach them to cope with their problems, the life they had before is absolutely obsolete but they shouldn’t dwell on that and should focus on each other to help start a new life the message in this film show a lot of character development and the emotional toll on how these things can effect you, and how the real perspective is just changed to see the stereotypes of people the message of this story is so real

Oh, that scene hit me hard. It's heart-wrenching to see the struggles they face, especially that desire for a taste of their past lives. The raw emotion, the lost dreams-it's just overwhelming. Empathy is crucial here; they're not just "post-zombies," they're individuals with stories and pain. Can't help but reflect on the fragile nature of humanity and the complexity of the situation. Thanks for sharing this thought-provoking piece.

The camera guy certainly didn't leave, but the other guy came in expecting an scene that fit a narrative he already made up. Hear the leading questions the guy was asking, listen to the actual responses. See the two moods the zombie couple were already bringing to the surprise interview. I didn't see the camera person, but I like them. They were clearly looking to find the story, what ever story that may be. Look at the way the focus on how Don's self consciousness about his lack of a lower half. The focus that quickly shifts to Don when he opens up about what he misses. How they also focus on how Andy is careful to fix the flower vase on the table in the midst of Don's anger at the loss of his life. Which is just to say, I like the composition of this video.

fart face well on the other hand, you could also say that the camera guy focusing on his lower half was exploitative depending on your point of view, i mean, if a camera-man focused on a disabled person's wheelchair or something and reduced them and their whole story to their disability, and didn't respect their privacy while fighting, that would be kinda odd in my humble opinion and would make some people queasy and sick to their stomach to see that. all people have a basic human dignity and when we refuse to acknowledge that, not to be a social justice warrior because this is just common sense for me, treat people how you would like to be treated, we learn that shit in kindergarten for f*cks sake!. ...........but i like to think maybe the camera guy came with that kind of expectation and then when he focused on the flowers and showed the zombie playing harmonica, he saw through the parts that scared him and his preconceived notions about who they are and what they are, and saw two guys just trying to make something positive out of a life they had torn from them and having relationship disagreements like we probably all do from time to time. maybe I'm reading too much into it, lol but i thought it was good, engaging, liked the characters, explored something about everyone reacts to it differently and good art tends to show you something about yourself in my opinion, so this was great. look forward to seeing more from these guys. the animation was great too.

Matthew Ascencion in the comics, many different things happened which weren’t the same in the TV series. One different thing being Carl survives. That’s why I didn’t like the TV show as much :(

I remember in high school thinking it was a bit cringe the zombies were a gay allegory. I live in Utah and at that time was part of the Mormon faith and was one of those “movies are pushing a woke agenda” type of people. Later after leaving the faith I came to terms with the fact I’m bisexual and started to really get to know the real me rather than the person the church tried to force me to be. Now I’m here watching again before pride month. Its one of my favorite animated shorts BECAUSE of the gay allegory. I may have escaped being a member of the Mormon church but I still live in Utah which the Mormon church practically owns. This short helps remind me I’m not alone.

It definitely reminded me of a gay couple who live with HIV and all the stigma that surrounds it to this day.

Listen, IDK if you noticed this detail, but only one of the zombies has a wedding ring on. Personally, I don't think they like each other in a sexual way, but they are still very close, and one could not live happily without the other. Them being roommates led to them learning each other's behaviors and acting as support structures for each other, which does not neccessarily mean that they are in a relationship
@Korihor666
@Korihor666 2 месяца назад
@@sridevimogilineedi1310What one of them having a ring says to me is he was once in a relationship with someone else and them being zombies probably would not give them great access for them both to get a ring anyway. Also being gay does not require marriage just like being straight doesn’t. It is an interesting detail though and I don’t remember even seeing the ring till you mentioned it. Though things like the harmonica outside the door thing read as more romantic to me and I personally still read this as a gay allegory. However I know art is subjective and just because two guys have a close bond does not mean it is automatically gay. In this case you and I just have different interpretations of the short which is fine. Both can be valid. ☮️

I've actually watched District 9 the plots could be seen as SIMILAR but the reporters have different stances on their respective topics. The reporter from District 9 if i remember correctly was more curious than concerned. Also I'm more talking, "cured" zombies, and societies stance on them. Like that movie Fido had an interesting look at it. and I find alien, and zombie themes tend to have different atmospheres.

In The Flesh is about reintegrating cured zombies back into society and it's really well done. It only got 2 short seasons but it's worth checking out. Some great characterisation.

One noticeable thing to me is that Andy is content in his "new" life as he isn't worrying about what he's lost by becoming a zombie while his friend is miserable thinking about the life he had 6 years ago. Acceptance is key to happiness.

I liked how the fight and harmonica just convinces you right away that they are humans who have no interest in distressing humans but to treat them as equals / like. It also tells that it is just this easy to bend perspectives out there. Camera man is like sure I'll just do whatever you tell... he watches the couple fight I think that must have convinced his interest to doubt that they are not what they thought they were .
