Watched this a few times the past few years and just realized the Post Man saying "Bye now Son" was probably literal.

9:19 I think this shows the cause of their mother killing them. From left to right, messy eating, kissing a frog, unknown(but im guessing from getting hurt), getting his clothes dirty. There's also clues in what greatly triggers her anger such as messy eating, the frog, the child getting blood in the house, and finally the clothes getting dirty.

Maybe the childrens are her children...and also killed them , so thats why they said "they were home ....

I think mark saying "mommy" means he knew what was going to happen because most people (especially children) are at a loss for words when a traumatic event happens and the fact that mark said mommy shows that he knew, probably because the ghosts of the other kids told him.

The five apples floating in the water (symbolising the drowned children) towards the end was a really nice touch.

I only just realized that when she says “I’ll make you a ghost” it’s foreshadowing.

The way she says “I told you not to play with those children” then “I told you not to play with those childer” at the end freaked me out! This was so well done, I love the fact that it doesn’t rely on jump scares, screaming or gore to be scary

"It's nearly November. Why aren't they dead yet?" made me question whether she was talking about the children or the trees (because of the leaves). I like it.

I like the symbolism of the recurring nightmare that she has that she is being taken by the forest as it represents the children she’s buried exacting revenge on her

In the beginning when the boy was eating he was actually so clean tho like most kids aren't that good at eating without making a mess😂 also it hurts to see him apologize so frightened at his mother for getting upset about the food because she treated him unfairly

I think she killed the boy because he found out what his mother had done to his siblings. That's why he didn't say much when he came home.. And also the apples that are in the bowl or whatever represent five kids being murdered in the bathtub.. It really scared me! It was brilliant

This was brilliant story telling and metaphors. The use of representation of the other children being his lost siblings so close but so out of reach for him. The fact that they clearly made the twist clear and hardly up to interpretation was something I can appreciate. I find a lot of short horror is left up to interpretation, which is fine. But having a clear cut twist is refreshing.

My take on this was what everyone else’s was but I was surprised nobody talked about what bobbin for apples also means in Druid history. When you cut open an Apple it has a pentagon(in a sense) and they use to do “bobbing” for apples in a ritualistic way where during Halloween they sacrificed people. I don’t recall what for but it seems the same way in this story. She must’ve killed each kid near Halloween as a sacrifice, but also because their dirty? If you notice on the calendar there’s a cut open Apple where you can see the seeds. 5 seeds. 5 children murdered. Idk the correlation but I found it interesting.

this film reminds alot about a person who has OCD and deep rooted trauma and someone who is always paranoid and overprotective.

The little boy Mark, is so cute! What a great actor too!! Awesome plot and characters! Would love to see more from this director/writer!!

The first terrifying part that made me jump was the fact that she actually bought a kirby. I had to pause it and get a drink to calm myself. And she’s vacuuming the grass no less. I absolutely must keep watching to see if she actually uses the attatchments but excellent so far! 👍🏾😂

Very effective atmosphere for this one, the claustrophobic but sheltering aspect of the house, the almost agoraphobic behavior of the mother, and the camera angles all played well into telling the story. This was something Sterling-esque, a dread hanging over the whole scene. You had a sense that something terrible was about to happen, then were given the notion that something terrible had already happened, and this was just a repeat. Great perfromances by all involved, especially the young people. Special props to Luke Walford for an effective portrayal of the doomed boy. Thanks for sharing this amazing work.

I don't usually watch horror because of the jump scares but Alter videos gives off an unsettling or whatever it is called just not jump scares that makes me love their short films!

The horror starts at the very beggining, cause just the fact that the mother is like this scares me genuinly

The part I just realized is that when he was in the bath, he was afraid of her because the children told him what she did.

wow.. incredibly interesting seeing it from her perspective because the whole time it leaves you trying to figure out what is wrong until you slowly start to realize that she is absolutely insane

"The mom had suffered a disorder called "Obsessive-Compulsive" (Fear of dirts, germs) when it was a year ago when she gave birth to 4 kids but when she had a argument with a husband and they divorced she end up killing her own children and ends up giving birth to a one boy, at outside the mom told her son to don't go near them but doesn't wanna tell him that that was her son's siblings who passed a year ago." And yes- parents kills their own child.

the sheets were no longer stained when she came back from the woods! It's these little details that make it all. I love it

I feel like the fact that this short is exactly 17: 00 minutes like on the dot is what makes it even freakier like this girl is vacuuming GRASS and I think that the time really adds to it

KAY SO HERES MY THEORY: all the children or 'childer' once were the mother's children who she all killed because they were 'dirty.' You can find out how one of the children dies because of the quote, 'my sister kissed a frog once, she's dead now.' this implies that one of the children was killed by the mother after kissing a frog. (i found this out because there were the same amount of children as the number of cabbages in the cabbage patch, and because of the quote, 'Go home. We are home,' and 'It's nearly November, why aren't they dead yet?') when the boy was playing with those same children, they told him what his mother had done to them, which is why he didn't say much of anything once he got home, one the mother realized that he knew, she had to drown him. afterwards, when the woman steps outside, you can hear a quiet humming, which i think was the little boy, who had after his death, had joined the childer. If u have anything to add please leave a comment and tell me what you think of this theory! Edit: So also i have something else to add. i think that the bit where she says 'I'll make u a ghost,' was foreshadowing to when she kills him. so ya not really much of stuff we dont know but i'd figure i'd put it out there

The actor who plays her son is adorable! And so talented. The look on his face in the bathtub once he realizes he’s doomed… heartbreaking. Fantastic film👏🏾

Horror directors everywhere, this is how you do horror right! Don't rely on cheap jumpscares to startle the audience, but use genuine, unsettling elements to lend the whole work an air of suspense and dread.

when she said “disgostang” i could think of only one video

The clock being either the frogs which symbolized the dirt or the apples symbolizing the drowned children is so interesting. I find it so sad that their deaths are all from her efforts to fully clean them

Wow. This took me a little bit to understand. I really love the fact they used it phsycologically horror, instead of gore and jump-scares and other gross kinda factors. It plays with your perception of what goes on in other people’s lives.

I mean the number of cabbage plants is the same as the childern. And the reference of pregnancy and the mail man all fit so well. I believe towards the end of the film she's getting ready for a date with the mailman . I think the childern are vengeful spirits that taunt her

I had a father who was obsessed with keeping it clean all the time. Getting out now I realize how much his obsessive cleaning skewed my view of the world. It is weird to have a parent like that tbh

I feel like this kind of covers ocd as in the obsession of cleaning and makeing sure everything is perfect and prestine, You can see how she easily gets anxious over the smallest things. And when she yelled at her kid she soon realized what she was doing, but at the same time she feels like she can’t control it.

I cried when she tried to force his head under water. Him saying “Mommy” in a frantic tone made it worse

This is one of the best horror movies I've ever watched! I'm so impressed at how they tackle your mind to think

The bobbing for apples reference was inductive of her drowning her fifth kid. The other 4 were the souls of her the 4 she already killed, toying with her. Which is why in the end, that kids favorite toy is tossed at her house.

Actually, we learned in psychology class that the obsession of dirt and dust is mostly linked to a fear of sex that is seen as something disgusting..that would explain how the mother treats the mailman when he attempts to flirt, and also the metaphor of cabbages (a tale often told to children when they ask about sex, to cover the reality). It's like this mother still sees it as something shameful. Her children (the dead ones and the one alive) are accepted because they came in a "clean, innocent " way : from cabbages. And when she kills the last one, she plants a new cabbage to get a new kid but the boy won't let her, it's like : "you killed enough mum, this gotta stop". Dunno if im going too far?

And this is why I personally believe that not all people have the mental and emotional capacity to be a parent. If you're not mentally or financially doing well, don't have kids.. you're just making their life as miserable as yours. It's 100% your responsibility and they're not indebted to you by any means that they were born.. It's not even their choice in the first place.

I know this is a horror film, but with her obsessive cleaning, it makes me think of how awful OCD can be, in it's own way it can truly be a prison. Great film. ❤

This women is so paranoid she drowned her son. What a✨great✨mother! I'd say you'd want to be on her good side

So, this doesn't matter but, I think that the other kids out there were killed by her. And maybe she wants everything to be clean because she feels dirty that she killed the children, so she is obsessed with being clean and is willing to do some weird things (vacuuming grass) to keep things clean. This doesn't matter and it's a dumb thought though.

I honestly started to cry at 9:19 , this is such a wonderful short film!!

This film seems to very closely resemble the Scottish folk song called “The Cruel Mother” about a mother who kills her children who then return as ghosts and send her to hell. But specifically the themes of the toy ball that is shown throughout as that is a repetitive line from the song about her seeing the ghosts of her children playing with a ball. And the continuous mention of the green scenery as she buries the bodies of her dead children. It shows 5 apples bobbing in the water, I'm gonna assume that each one represents one of the children she drowned 🤷‍♀️

Kid wants to be a fireman or an astronaut for Halloween... mom wants him to be a ghost. Kind of a cool metaphor for the idea that he’ll never grow up to be anything but a childer ghost haunting the garden. Imagery was awesome. Loved the transition slides.

I love how they talk with that musical tone, like ''i have to keep him for the halloween holidAYs''
