Downey has said that for him "the role was like the ghost of Christmas Future", since his drug habit resulted in him becoming an "exaggeration of the character" in real life.
You probably dont care but does anyone know a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the password. I appreciate any help you can give me.
What is also so heartbreaking is that in Real Life Kevin McCarthy had addiction problems but became a successful director working on Orange Is The New Black.
I don't think he's suppose to be gay...based on the fact he's deep into drugs and has large debts, he was probably just tryingto get some money or dope out of the deal. Addicts are sometimes that bad.
Because he owed so much money, Rip decided that in order to pay him back, being pimped/prostitueted would be a good solution. But it was obvious he did not want to. They used the drugs against him to manipulate him. The scene before this happened he had gone to tell Rip he wanted to quit and that he would find a way to pay him back
Oh he's not gay. Desperate times mean desperate measures. Did you ever read Jackie Collins Hollywood Wives, Buddy Hudson an aspiring Actor ran away at 16 after his Mother's inappropriate behavior towards him, his Friend Randy set him up with his "Manager" whom everyone called Gladrags because of his Fashion Sense. He told Gladrags he didn't want "Male Customers". In American Gigolo Julian Kaye begged Leon James for a alibi, saying he'd work for him, and he'd do "Fags" and "Kink" but it didn't pan out.
Especially after realizing Julien was practically forced. He had gone to say he wanted to sober up and that he would find a way to pay RIP back. He obviously did not want to keep being pimped/prostituted, and wanted to go sober. Julien really deserved so much better
Ill be totally honest with all due respect Not me Mrs. Treeze....I actually felt sorry for him UNTIL this scene.... I think this was the meaning of : Less than zero....
Exactly! It was kind of like the Pre Down Low. Parties like that have existed in Hollywood for years. If you can, check out Hollywood on Netflix. Sadly his Friend owned Julian like a "Punk" because he'd never be able to pay off the debt.
@@ohok1356 Yes the book was very disturbing and gross, written by an obvious misanthrope 🤣 It was so over the top I cringed with laughter, meaning that the characters were ridiculously vapid and shallow.
Yeah Clay is bisexual and kind of amoral and detached in the book. I guess for the film that they had to make him have something of a conscious and actually care about Julian for the audience to find him relatable.
No I don't think. unlike the character in the book Robert downey had alot of people that tried to help. elton got through just in time before he really really hit that bottom
Sorry I’m sure it was worse. I have relatives that have bottomed out to drugs. Addiction goes right to the bones. Thank goodness he had friends and got through it and he’s doing all right now.
You can be a Friend, Supporter to an Addict but sometimes they bring you down. Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys hit rock bottom in December 1983. He was Broke, Homeless, lost his Boat due to Tax Issues, and and kicked out of The Beach Boys. They pleaded, threatened, yelled but he didn't listen. His Friend George let him stay at his House, a Couple of days later he came home from Work and The Room where he entertained where he had his Music with Large Irreplaceable Tapes and a Pool Table, were ruined and George kicked Dennis out and hon Xmas Day he was Homeless. He died on December 28th 1983. In an eerie Co-Incidence, Corrie Ten Boom got released from Ravensbrouck Concentration Camp in 1944 due to a clerical error.
@@jacquiew.9165 Bleek Gilliam was willing to do that in Mo' Better Blues starring Spike Lee & Denzel Washington. Giant got beaten up big time bad and Bleek got smashed and his Teeth and Jaw were a mess and he couldn't even play his Trumpet anymore.
Unfortunately Yes! Alot of Children (Especially Girls) run away are charmed by a Man, who take them on trips to Light Fantastic! Then they are taken to "Parties" and meet "other" Fellows. By today's standards they are being "Groomed". They've done storylines on The UK Soap Opera Coronation Street and Cheryl Ann Tweedy formerly of Girls Aloud The UK Girlband almost got groomed.
You know they didn't have anything and the title speaks for itself and Julian Wells died along time ago b/c his mother died when he was 4 yrs old... and he a had rough realtionship with his family even his father and he did drugs to numb the pain... and Bret Ellsion Ellis did another book Imperiel Bedrooms which is the sequel to Less Than Zero. This soundtrack by Thomas Newman is so haunting...
Not true! But Hunter Biden did lose his mother and sister in a deadly car crash when he and his brother were very young. Just as Julian the character played by Robert Downey jr. lost his mother when he was very young.
@@truthseeker2891 you're close. He was disowned because after his chance at a record label company failed, he started doing drugs. He is in debt and since he is practically homeless, he has no way to pay back. The drug dealer PIMPS/PROSTITUTES him deciding that that would be the only way Julien, the guy in the white shirt, woumd pay him back In fact before this scene, he had gone to the drug dealer saying he wanted to sober up and that he would pay him back since he managed to talk again with his father, promising that he would TRY to stay sober at least a week because he needed help. But the guy didn't like that and since he was trapped he was forced (pimped) to do this. His friend finds him because the drug dealer sent someone to look after julien, resulting in the trashing of their friends house. This movie literally deals with the consequences of drug addictions and withdrawal. Don't judge the movie based on this scene where a character who obviously is in need of help and looking for a way out, being forced to have sex with another man
@@mulliganstew72 no and i don't want to after seeing this and several other ridiculous scenes. I'm sure this was moving for certain cokeheads in the 80s
How old are you? This movie is a masterpiece. Do you have any idea what addiction means....let alone what one will do to get their fix...quite real, not ridiculous at all.
@@akAsha6E6D based on your goofy username i'm at least a decade older than you and i've been around plenty of addicts. none of them act like this, and my comment was as much about the dialogue as anything. very hammy
@@miafrench6690 goofy...I guess you don't what it means either. Your quite insulting and if your a decade older than me you must be way over 80yrs..shameful then ,didn't your mama teach you any manners.uou are no way superior to anyone else.
