If you use a Regular 9 V battery in an MTH loco you WILL blow out your board. You can get away with it if it’s only 8.4 volts but not all 9 v batteries test that low. Always replace them with an MTH white battery or the compatible capacitor.
That advice about not using a white battery, came from the Tech of the Techs,Marty Fitzhenry, who sadly is no longer with us.Yes,it is ideal to use a NEW MTH Battery, but for a temporary fix, nothing is wrong with just using a regular 9volt battery. The white batteries had problems from MTH’s supplier, that is what I was told by a Tech(Marty)who could fix anything .It’s the milliamperes rating on the batteries that count the most.
I do not know much about lashing up engines .I know a Proto 2 and a Proto 3 can be lashed up and ran together,I have seen it done.Try to contact TommyZ’sTrains,he is a master at things like this, and a great guy.
@@mytrainhobby5318 The white NiCad batteries do not age well. Even if the engine is new old stock and has been sitting on a shelf for 20 years unused the NiCad batteries more often than not will not take a charge and you'll cause the gen one Prorosounds board ( the one with the removable square 32 pin programming chip as seen here ) will lock up and need to be reset with the MTH 50-1023 reset kit.
