Eddie Irvine bemoans the current state of F1 to Ted Kravitz after the Italian Grand Prix 2011 and Ted lets us all know what he thinks of Eddie's views.
Ted's comments at the end...in Eddie's day the points were different. If he had the points they had during this interview, and also the points they have today, Eddie WOULD be champion. If he was a better interviewer he would have said those words to his face but instead he got offended by a four letter word.
They were not driving cars, but having an interview, you silly. Ted had to remind him about the standards of public statements in front of a live audience. And he did it with a nifty remark that didn't sound snobbish, but light and funny. Very professional on his part.
Eddie Irvine telling it like it is, like he always did. Personalities like this is what formula 1 lacks these days, now we just have robots with no personality like Hamilton and Rosberg......god forbid you upset a sponsor!.......oh and dont forget to thank the team 500 times to the cameras whenever something goes well on the track!
I think Eddie just swears as part of his everyday conversation. I saw him and Eddie Jordan on a flight back from Barcelona one year and they were both effing and blinding.
What ego? He's been a F1 driver, nearly world champion, and will openly tell you he was no where near as good as Michael, I don't think his ego is anywhere near what some who have acheived the same have.
I think people confuse his openess and light heartedness as having an ego. But it probably seems that way when majority of F1 drivers have the personality of wet sock.
As opposed to manufactured unovertaking? You can blame bad aero regulations for making overtaking more difficult than it should be reasonably expected from a formula 1 car, as much as you can blame the DRS for allowing those overtakes to happen. Fair game in my book in the end. Let's hope 2022 makes it all better.
Ted is supposed to stir the pot (a little)...not to mention sell drs to the viewers. Eddie probably was aware of this but did not care because he knew it was bs
I totally agree with everything Eddie said. I remember in Barcelona a year or so ago when Alonso got that amazing start and actually led into turn one and everyone was amazed at the lightening reactions and the way in which he could get the revs, clutch, wheelspin dialled in to fly away like that. Then on the reply you could clearly see that all he actually did was max out his KERS battery. It's bullshit, as Eddie rightly said.
DRS right now may be a necessary evil but I can’t fucking stand it. Overtaking slower cars is too easy and the dirty air means overtaking similar speed cars is too difficult
@@cameronw3159 I can already hear this now: And here comes Hamilton down the Hamilton Straight to take the chequered flag and for the 8th time,Lewis Hamilton, wins at Silverstone! (Come back to this comment when the British GP is over I guess)
Irvine would have won the championship if he'd been the number one driver from the start of the season that Michael broke his legs. Two points off Hakkinen after only inheriting the number one spot halfway through the season is a pretty impressive achievement in my books... Ted appears to have conveniently forgotten this. Irvine is bang on about the formula being a mess with all these overtaking aids.
He was fucked over by Ferrari because they'd promised Michael he'd be the first since Scheckter to win WDC and they weren't letting some scut Irishman do it first, even though Shuey threw his own chance away by binning it at Silverstone. Fucking Enzo would have backed Irvine, his mentality was "back the driver most likely to win the Championship".
@@f1v10thebest Driver-to-driver yeah. But Schuey broke his leg when he'd ended up in the wall and as I said, Enzo backed whomever was likeliest to win WDC, meaning he and Ferrari would have been completely behind Irvine. There was only two men on pitwall could overrule Irvine's call and they're still in The Michael's pocket - just as back then. Politics is a cunt - hurts people in all walks of life.
@@SpiderRiviera watch Eddie interview he said himself he wasn't able to beat Mika and the McLaren's they were just to fast and ferrari had decided to stop developing the 1999 car and fouse on the 2000 car
@@f1v10thebest I don't think Jean Todt wanted Eddie to win the title before Michael. Those two were always close. Well let's just say I don't think he was exactly too displeased when Hakkinen won it instead. And Eddie was let down badly by Ferrari when they botched a pit-stop and ruined his race in Italy I think. Considering he only lost to Hakkinen by 2 points, that mistake could have cost him the title.
Yeah, that was classless, which is unlike Ted in later years. He was on live TV and stuck for something to say...I'm trying to cut him some slack but that was pathetic.
Everything Eddie said has ended up being true. We now have stupid gimmicks like the sprint format that means absolutely nothing because it has no affect on the Grand Prix itself. The sport has become a complete mess for the sake of attracting a larger DTS audience and social media celebrities while alienating the real hardcore fanbase who have had to watch it slide down into the total fustercluck it is today.
why all these comments about how many races ted has won? wtf is that about. are film critics exempt from now making opinions on films incase its a bad film and they havent made one before? or are food critics now going to be out of a job incase they leave a chef a bad review but havent been a chef themself before?
Fast Eddie will always be controversial. Whether you like him or not, he has actually won a few races (unlike the commentator)and races for Ferrari, albeit with mistakes. He was never the best driver and he says so himself, but even when he occasionally beat Michael a team order told him to give the place back.
I agree with Irvine. People love DRS for more overtaking but personally I can’t stand it. It ruins any chances of a slower car winning a race now because even if a slower car was in front of a faster without DRS it can still be hard to overtake on a lot of tracks and teams relied more on strategy rather than this artificial nonsense.
For those that dont know, Irvine has become an incredible Property Developer in Miami and beyond, which is not easily done. It's very impressive. Should have been a World Champion but sadly missed out.
@mukyv1 I agree, met him today, at the Singapore GP, and he held off getting a taxi talking to me, a nobody, about the sport, and his favourite for the singapore gp, Alonso! great guy.
Eddie Irvine may be a has been but at least he's been! And he can judge and he has a point. KERS and now DRS is forcing action on what would be boring races.
Irvine definitely not mincing his words there - He's so right about DRS though. That last remark about Irvine from Ted reminded me of Will from the Inbetweeners, just the way he says it :P
Eddie is so right f1 is a mess I would love it if he was president of the f I A we would have v10 rockets again no kers or drs real racing none of this v6 turbo lets slow the cars down shit
A lot of Brit media personalities get away with that snake shit too much. Dude was just standing in your face, Ted. Be a man for once instead of just commentating on them.
Ouch what a burn at the end. Eddie always comes off as he is all that! Never liked him in F1 was secretly hoping he wouldn’t win Ferrari’s first drivers championship. I don’t think Ferrari also didn’t want him to win. They certainly didn’t help him that year. Amazing how far he made it in F1 and much he was paid.
I think you may be right about some in Ferrari not wanting him to win that title. I remember him getting really fucked over at one of his pitstops in 1999 when he had to wait like a minute because the tyres weren't ready. That was the kind of thing which never happened to Michael.
OUCH, KRAVITZ! That was a scalpel-sharp burn there. Irvine was a pretty awesome driver for Ferrari who had to put up with a lot of shtick and did a sterling job in '99, but as an ambassador to the sport he is far from ideal. :$
Jovon devinci Irvine has a huge wallet no doubt but he would probably just bottle it like he did at Japan 99. I'd be more worried about getting hit by a championship trophy and by someone with the balls to win it.
People seem to forget that McLaren had one of their worst ever cars for reliability that season (It was one of lowest championship points totals: 76) and Schumacher broke his leg. Irvine bottled it in Japan and then accused the team of altering his car because they wanted Schumacher to win it the next season. Schumacher let Irvine pass him twice in the previous race in Malaysia for a one two. Did he want Schumacher to spoon feed him the title?
Ted never really got over the fact that he never became a rock star like his brother Lenny and instead had to scrape a living as a gimme-a-job sports journalist.
@cuisinemoderne An interesting comment, who said webber was better at jag than irvine? eddie was nothing special as a driver but still was able to get a couple of podium finishes with jag, whereas mark...donuts
+TheD2JBug Martin Brundle was never a pit reporter, so that's that out of the way. Ted is actually VERY good, but he has definitely gone down hill since he got given more air time on Sky - they increased the duration of his "notebook" and now lots of it is just irrelevant "oh look at me, I'm in the pit lane and you're not" nonsense with a few tedious anecdotes that lead to a very average punchline. When he had limited time, he got on with it; kept it concise, and to the point and was actually funny. He still does come with great stuff and isn't too afraid to ask the questions nobody else wants to; he's not afraid to come remind team bosses or drivers that they're only human and have to answer certain things that they would rather not etc. Love the guy, but he needs to fix up - these BBC and early Sky Sports F1 days were the golden era for him - he was in his element. Brundle is, and always has been, the gem of F1 broadcasting - nobody else, in any other motorsport coverage, comes close to him in terms of knowledge, wit, humour, accuracy, and general all-round quality.
Eddie Irvine's point still stands F1is easier due to DRS, like DRS or not. Ted Kravitz just proves Irvine's point further by saying if DRS was around in Irvine's day he may have won a World Championship. Irvine may have won a World Championship in F1 with DRS it would have been easier for him but it wasn't the case and Irvine raced in a harder period. What about Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher they were still around with no DRS so NO Eddie Irvine most probably would not have won a World Championship.
Ted is the most annoying person on TV. Why? Well in 30 seconds Ted says "um" 10 times that's an average of 100 "um's" every 10 minutes!!! Sorry but ffs this is unacceptable, dude need to curve his um style.
you cant really complain about the racing this year, I didnt watch much last year so maybe it wasnt as good but this year has been fucking excellent, its sad to see the skill of defensive driving and making difficult passes fade a bit but still I'd rather see exciting races than a procession of cars that can only pass each other in the pits
I much prefer Gary Anderson to Ted anyway, he actually has experience in F1 and knows what he is talking about, Ted is just a journalist in the paddock...
Eddie Irvine would have been a world champion had he had not have had to play second fiddle to Schumacher for all them years he was at Ferrari! He gave up the lead so many times for Schumacher didn't he it was a joke!
