The first thing to do when you get water in your shoes is to empty them of water and do what you can to dry your stocking 🧦 and feet. Cold air is dry, so it helps. Then put your shoes on again and go immediately someplace warm where you can change to dry clothing.
A bit more than a kilometer away from the place, where you stepped through ice is Mytäjärvi, a small lake. I think I was about 10, when I managed to get a similar educational experience falling though ice. I fell deeper. It was a bit more embarrassing and difficult. It was during a lunch break from school, I think , when I for some reason had got the idea to visit the lake, which was close to my school. I fail to remember all the details, it was so long ago.
Skiing on ice is a different experience altogether. Highly recommend, if you know what you're doing and are prepared. It can also be dangerous, if you don't know what you're doing.
Have you noticed that some skiing gear is for sale. Late spring is low session and prices lowered for such equipment. I suggest you think about, if this would be the time to take advantage of lower pricing and get prepared for the next season. You might even start your skiing career, or journey, in this season... What you think?
@@Ilona_Ke But I get the impression that you're still not seriously convinced or considering it. But please, don't go walking on the late winter ice without being prepared and alone. If you don't know anyone already, who is more experienced of the local ice conditions, just wait for someone who seems to know what they are doing and explain that you could use some help. Many people would be delighted to be able to show that they know something and would assist you in this way. If not, I would be very disappointed about their behavior.
It's mainly only the shoreline which has weakest ice because of the rainwater lines from the town ending in the shoreline. There is also water flowing from Pikkuvesijärvi, the bond, which also makes ice weaker. Places where water flows are always more dangerous. Some local knowledge of streams of water streams is needed to estimate which places to avoid. You where not properly prepared. You better take with you some tools to make walking or skating safer on lakes.
