An industry with even just imperfect unions is vastly better than one with no labor representation at all

Yeah but the unions have to stop raising up those dues cause is unbelievable how much a worker has to pay as dues goes it shouldnt be more than $6 dollars no matter the position

I work in a country that has labor unions for everything, trust me, you do not would want that. Unions have a tendency to become entirely motivated by political propaganda. And the benefits they got may come with downsides like stupid regulations to follow and less individual bargaining power.

Okay but it's not sustainable on the other end of the spectrum either. Publicly traded companies have legal obligations to maximize profit, and there are no other metrics. Without labor representing themselves, the capitalism system encourages all companies to step on labor at every possibility. When labor unions get out of hand, the company goes out of business. When companies get out of hand, everyone else loses.

The US is the opposite of that: no unions, with corporations being motivated by their own agenda and unlimited spending. But you do bring up a good point that some unions become huge bureaucracies and out-of-touch with their workers. That's not an argument against unions, just against the centralization of power that is universal with all institutions.

There is absolutely no importance on individuals when "collective" is made a priority. I hate unions, there was a time when unions were truly necessary but that's not the case anymore. Screw unions and screw the notion that you can't bargain for yourself with your own employer. If you can't, you have a bad employer and should either work for yourself freelance or get a better employer. That's really it, that's all. If you can't bargain for yourself, you'll usually be subjected to others bargaining for you regardless of whether it's good for you or not.

Ok then you argue with the large corporation on your own that is able to replace you with little problem. You have no bargaining power as an individual.

I mean, its factually better to be in a union in most cases. Sorry but between importance on the "individual" and better benefits, I'll take the healthcare and increased wages

"If you can't (bargain), you have a bad employer" Well said. Let's take a moment to acknowledge that there is no alternative. There are NO employers that give individuals the power to bargain for themselves. No, your stance is unfounded, part of the problem is when you say "collective" that means YOU. Individuals SHOULD and DO benefit from collective action. A "collective" is a collection of individuals. I'm going to further emphasize this point: This called a universal quantifier, it's one of the simplest tools in logic. I recommend using logic in the future. Another universal quantifier: ALL employers deny individual bargaining. A further lesson in logic: You can come to conclusions that are consistent with your assumptions, and if your assumptions are inconsistent then so are your conclusions.

I used to think Unions stood up to bad men, built the middle class, and were the compromise between the left and right on labor issues. Then i moved to Detroit. Fixed that shit real quick lol.

@@petrosthegoober i mean i've negotiated my wage everywhere i've ever been... no companies do that? You don't do it, i guess... Get your entry level wage (or don't, your choice) and it's very easy to obtain leverage once you're in a business. I went from $12/hr to $110,000/yr in an established company by being better than my coworkers at everything and pointing it out constantly to my boss. When they decided to cut my pay i left. You're not a doormat unless you're a doormat.
