A short video in rememberance of my father, Lloyd Swimm, who served for us in World War II. He saw action in the liberation of Holland as well as Sicily and Italy. He was a sapper - a combatant or soldier who performs a variety of military engineering duties, such as breaching fortifications, demolitions, bridge-building, laying or clearing minefields, preparing field defenses, and road and airfield construction and repair. They are also trained to serve as infantry personnel in defensive and offensive operations. My father contracted malaria in Sicily or Italy and was, for the rest of his life, plagued with respiratory issues as a result. He was born in June 1924, so would have been about 20 when he saw action. He died in January 1980 at the age of 55.
