I always thought that Dorian Gray was something close to a vampire because he didn't get old and if he gets hurt nothing happens to him, because the picture is that it reflects everything. And technically he sold his soul to the devil without realizing it and lost his morale.
I always thought that he could be hurt in the regular way. He is just immortal in the sense that he doesn’t age. I guess it is never specified in the book so either could be true. (If it was specifically said, I must have forgotten, cause it’s been some time since I read it.) But regardless, I think Dorian Gray definitely thought he could be hurt or killed, since he was so terrified of Sibyl’s brother coming for him.
Ironically the man who wrote Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde, was actually the lover of the man who wrote Dracula, Bram Stoker, the book that revolutionized the vampire genre and actually made our modern day depictions of the creatures. Going even further its believed that both Dorian Gray and Dracula were based off of Wilde himself who was a seductress with a reputation of living only for pleasure.
OMG, I didn’t even hope to find something as perfect as this video. Great editing! My fav Lestat and Dorian are sooo cute together. Now I definitely ship them!
OKAY IT'S THE BEST AND ACTUALLY THE ONLY PAIRING WITH DORIAN THAT I SHIP AND WAIT A MINUTE IM REALLY INTO THIS I'M GOING TO WRITE SOME FICS AND TELL MY FRIENDS ABOUT IT THEN TRY TO DRAW AN ART AND LITERALLY SHOUT ABOUT THESE TWO EVERYWHERE BECAUSE I LOVE IT SO MUCH THANKS TO YOU 💕💕💕
This is brilliant! These films really have the same gloomy and gothic vibe and you put it together so well! :) It must be hard work to find the scenes that work together^^
OHHH MMMMYYY GOFD!! I AM SCREAMING!!! THIS IS SO COOL!!!!! You're ability to match those two movies together is INSANE!! I never watched Dorian Grey so, it looked like Dorian literally just walks into the 'Interview with a Vampire'-universe, innocent and unknowing of what type of creature Lestat is. He immediately catches Lestat's eye, and is courted by the man. Dorian is so quickly enamoured with genuine feelings for him and falls in love. Unfortunately just as quickly, Dorian has his heart broken when he realizes "I didn't know you were a sociopath." - I didn't know you, Lestat were a cold blooded killer without regret. Dorian seemingly calls out this line multiple times in shock, disbelieve and horror. He struggles with his feeling. While he still loves Lestat, he can't unite this love and wish to be with Lestat with his morals. He seeks distance, which of course Lestat doesn't allow. Eventually, Dorian returns to Lestat, seemingly no longer caring about Lestat's horrifying nature. The way Lestat responds with a gleeful smile as the lyrics "I didn't know you were a sociopath" now mirror his thoughts!! Lestat is now the one surprised that Dorian would remove his morals so completely - basically also becoming a sociopath. But unlike with Dorian the line becomes something of a happy surprise and euphoria for Lestat. It reveals a second sinister side for the line. Then PLOTTWIST! Dorian was just faking his dark nature, he betrays and kills Lestat. And Lestat realizes this, with the same shock and horror, Dorian once felt, as for the last time "I didn't know you were a sociopath" plays. It's proves Lestat wrong. There is no happy side of "I didn't know you were a sociopath" - You've fooled yourself. The entire video is like poetry: It reflects and contrasts itself like a stunning piece of art. I truly have been sweated of my feet with the way you matched the lyrics and video into such a strong, cohesive and clear story line! How you matched so many Lestat-Dorian clips together, in such a way that the two not only seem to actually speak with eachother (an incredible feet on it's own) but have ENTIRE INTERACTIONS, is mind-blowing!! You've made one of the best edits I have ever seen! And I am genuinely in love with this!
I have so many more feelings about this, like - how, I noticed the rewatching the second half, that just when Dorian returned to Lestat the lyrics say "It ain't quite what it seems" FORESHADOWING that Dorian never fully returned to Lestat and would betray him. - or, onwards from when Dorian returns, he seems cold and detached, as if in a sense returning to Lestat has broken or even 'killed' a part of him. "they say that love kills." I could continue so much more but it's past midnight and I must stop. *Reading the comments, I noticed that I maybe might have misinterpreted parts of this video, because I think/thought Dorian is just some nice, young, innocent man. But I really like the story I interpreted. 😅 ** In defence, English is not my mother-tounge and we didn't have many classical novels in English class, we did have Shakespeare (and the original Sherlock Holmes lol). *** The day I get to reading Dorian Gray I will return.
Never mind going to bed - I still can't get over how so many parts genuinely look, as if you simply took a scene from one singular movie and maybe shorted it a little, instead of painfully searching and editing clips from two separate movies together. Like the complete first 40 seconds are pure and utter perfection! - 1:23 The "I don't feel bad, you don't feel bad." "I don't feel sad you don't feel sad" could have literally been said by Dorian there. - 1:28 how sad Dorian looks 😭 - how Lestat seems to be mocking Dorian by repeating "I didn't know you were a sociopath" back to him. - how Dorian breaks out in tears after ???!!! - how good Lestat's toxic nature, as per Louis' description, is coming out. It's showing so well. First the sweet-talker, then the reveal of selfishness and lack of empathy. Such a good portray of narcissism. - 2:14 "so cry cry cry I don't need you in my life" fits Lestat and his expression so well there
Also noticed during my full rewatch, that 0:41 is probably Dorian noticing that Lestat is cheating and not about the killing part.... Ups. This recontextualises a lot. 😅 - 2:06 "I feel afraid, cause you're crazy for days" from 'I'm afraid that you might kill me' to 'I'm afraid you'll cheat again' / 'I'm worried about your narcissism' - 2:14 "you said he wasn't me and it don't mean a thing" from 'don't worry the person I killed wasn't you and I wouldn't kill you' to well that what cheaters say I am a bit sad about the loss of my previous interpretation, but I still wish I could watch a full length movie about this!
Also headcannoing that, Louis heard Lestat being like "ah look at that pretty boy over there" at 0:03, and noped out ala 'I know the sh** Lestat is about to pull and I am not dealing with it'; then went to have his own melancholic philosophy sessions on a couch in a side room, just to come out once in a while to still tell Lestat off. This is extra funny, because if Lestat was already with Louis at that time, someone less melancholic, more easily bullied, like Dorian must have seen like ✨extra exciting drama✨ to Lestat. No wonder he was so gleeful when Dorian returned. In his perspective Dorian was just some light fun with a sign saying "all play, no caring required".... until he suddenly gets killed by that extra light fun. XD Headcannoing that Louis came back only afterwards, went to pick up 3:11's bloodless sack of Lestat and basically told him 'you had this coming'. Don't know how Dorian didn't notice that Lestat basically had a boyfriend before but that just makes it funnier. XD Louis is even watching them from the background at 0:50. And Dorian of course has a fight because of the woman Lestat doesn't care one bit about, not the life-time-partner on the balcony. Noooo! His perspective is all wrong. Poor man. XD This video really has so many cool perspectives/interpretations from angsty horror, to hilariously dramatic. Really hope these many comments aren't bothering you. Usually I don't comment (this much). I just had rough mental health these last couple month and this video made me feel some fun emotions again. I really enjoyed it. Thank you.
