Growing up, Lester Ellis was one of my idols. Watching him on CH7 with my Dad, especially the Ash Wednesday bout, brings back so many great memories. What can anyone say about that left rip to the body? Those fast hands, the punch rate and that lateral movement are the standards we just don't see very often. Lester, where ever you are these days, I will always regards you as one of the best that Australia has ever produced and I certainly think you rate among any other champions of your era.
It is now over 25 years since Lester won his World Title Fight against the Korean Champion. This clip has been a long time coming and is a worthy momento for a person who epitimises all the qualities of a true Australian Champion. The way he looked after that dying young boy -leaves me speechless! Lester himself has also fallen on tough and troubled times but through much hard work in a medical sense and a very caring loving wife and family he has made it. Well done Lester. Your mate David Nolte
This Lester is an absolute champion person I watch this video every night and day and it gives me the inspiration to get up and go to work as I'm a bad alcoholic and maybe be dead otherwise
Well done, mate....trust you are doing well. Met Lester at the Sunshine United Cricket Club following his World Title fight win and will forever cherish the photo I got with him. Lester was a true inspiration to my generation's Western Suburb's youth. Incredibly talented fighter and tough as nails - never beaten - incredible guts and iron will to fight through pain to win - incredible dedication over so many years to get his World Title - we'll always love him. Great to see that his Family has a Boxing Facility and trust it is going well.
Beautiful tribute to your father. This video not only shows your father's incredible boxing talent - quick hands and incredible power punching - but his never-say-die guts and iron will to get through pain and his total dedication to achieve a World Title. It also shows his incredible humility and humanity. Lester inspired my younger generation in the Western Suburbs - we loved and adored him. I'll never ever forget meeting your father at the Sunshine United Cricket Club after Reg Undy brought him to our club following Lester's World Title fight win. I'll forever cherish the photo I had taken with him. Trust Lester and his much loved Family are all happy and healthy and that the Family's Boxing Facility is doing well.
Fucking love Lester, remember seeing him training on that road out to Bacchus Marsh golf club every morning - I would lean out of my dads car and shout!! My old man even let me stay up to watch him win the world Title!! Even got his autograph at a blue light disco!
Great guy. His wife and kids are friggin' angels. Quote Lester " I used to get punched in the head for a living and now that I'm retired I'm expected to make sensible decisions and it is harder than anyone can imagine". Thanks for giving me a glimpse into the world of an absolute champion and representative for the underdog with more bite than bark. I hope you are still moving forwards friend. Still gives me a laugh to tell your story of the river crossing near Werribee when you met your match trying to work out who had right of way over the bridge. Cheers.Jarrod.
A great clip, to my cuzz ! Some 25 years after winning the world title, ppl still talk about your fights and inspire countless others ! Horns up for the MASTER BLASTER !!!

I'm here because I was reading an article where Mike Tyson was talking about his Mt Rushmore of boxers. He said Lester, Duran, and Ray Robinson... I'm like who's Lester??? Thank you RU-vid!!!!
Lester Ellis was a wonderful fighter. Determined, brave, watchful. Just look at 6:18 to 6:33. That right hand! With the right people in his ear, Ellis would have beaten Michael and hung on to that title a while longer.
Lester Ellis, he belted the crap out of Barry Micheal, turned his face into a mashed pulp, he won everywhere but on the scorecard, Lester was robed , you should have seen Barry Micheal's head the next day, both eyes closed, his head was all out of shape, he could hardly stand, he was black and blue all over, Lester without a mark on him, once again he was robbed
Pound for pound Lester was the better boxer and won this fight, He landed the better blows and done the most damage. Sure he was hard and tough Michaels, but so was Lester, Barry never hurt Lester. He didn't look beaten to me at all, Only psychologically and partially due to Michaels bluffing him with the early celebration and the fact he was charging him in the later stages and grappling, he still wasn't hurting Lester and to this day I feel Lester is still psychologically bluffed by Michaels. It could have very easily gone his way and if it did then Lester lives a very different life after that. He should be very proud of himself as even Michaels said, even at the later stages he was landing big blows with class, Michaels just had a hard head and was tough, But not tough enough to Hurt Lester. So it could have gone either way and it's clear to me that Lester was far more impressive, Michaels style sucked and would have got his arse handed to him in the street by Lester 100 times over. Long live the master blaster, The decision should go to who has the most damage done to them and who landed the better blows and it was Lester all day, Barry barely touched him the only thing he done was withstand him, But Lester also withstood Michaels to a greater extent so what gives?? The fact Lester was throwing huge punches through the whole fight and Barry barely threw any loaded blows shows Lester also had him covered for the stamina as well. Michaels is delusional thinking to this day that he beat him jus y because a couple of morons with scorecards said so, that doesn't mean shit when the guy is still on his feet with barely a mark on him whilst Barry's face is hanging off. Think about it
