Collection of internet photographs from Lesvos, the island of Sappho, Elytis and Ionatos, with music by Angelique Ionatos based on the poem "Monogram" of Odyseas Elytis. See translation below.
------------------------
In Paradise I have spotted an island, akin to you
and a house by the sea
with a large bed and a small door
I've thrown an echo in the depths
to look at myself every morning when I wake
to look at you, half, crossing the water
and half, to weep for you in Paradise
...
The anemone that sat on your arm
...
The two small animals, our hands
that tried, secretly, to climb one another
the flowerpot with the dew by the open yard gates
and the pieces of seas that were coming together
...
I’ve seen a lot, and the land in my mind seems prettier
prettier amid the golden vapors,
the sharp stone, prettier,
the blue depths of the isthmuses
and the roofs in the waves
Prettier, the rays that you cross without stepping on them
invincible like the Goddess of Samothrace
above the mountains of sea
This is how I have looked at you,
and that suffice
for Time to be acquitted
In the wake left by your passage
follows, like an inexperienced dolphin, my soul
and plays with the white and the cyan, my soul
Victory, victory, where I’m defeated
before love and with it
for the hibiscus and for the acacia
go, go, never mind if I am perished.
...
Lone, even when the sun that you hold
is a newborn child
Lone, even if it is me the homeland that mourns
let the word I sent hold a laurel leaf for you
Lone, the wind, forceful as it be, and
lone, the well-rounded pebble
in the blinking of the dark depths
The fisherman that fished and threw back, lone,
back to Time, lone, the Paradise!
