I had no idea that St. Lucians spoke the same language as Haitians. I went on vacation and the taxi man started speaking creole to the person on the phone after telling us about the island. I was like wait a minute are you Haitian because you just spoke Haitian creole? I think he got insulted, but he was like no this is Lucian Creole. I was in my 20s then, but I had no idea and I live in South Florida, the mecca of every island and surround by different people. I've heard other creoles and are not even close to Haitian creole like St. Lucian creole, but I sometimes wonder now if the St. Lucians just assimilate as Haitians because I was just mesmerized by it and not ever knowing this. This is definitely coming from someone born in America and knowing my families native tongue. I felt so ignorant that day. We all need to travel and learn about different countries, I'm sure Native Haitians know this, but again I'm Americanized.
@@nay9nay St.Lucia was fought by the British and French 14 times each won 7 after the war it was an even fight the British and French settled there and thats how descendents of slaves learnt the French but it was broken its called Creole. After awhile both British and French went back to Europe the slaves took over we are the descendents.
@Terri-Ann kitchen could we just have combined(kneed) the yellow ingredient(Dhal Roti) in with the whole dough instead of parting it in sections and balling it??
@@Suziee_Suee I have thought about doing it that way but it won't be the same but you could try it, food is continuously evolving, so why not? the peas will to be done soft enough.

When she said vinegar and said the chicken was clean I subscribed then when I saw the fresh seasoning and spices I knew this was a Caribbean woman Good work
Xena Warrior Princess ... As did I. You can imagine how many people here in the states don’t do it like that? If I don’t have vinegar, I use lemon and salt and keep it in the fridge for a day at the most. Then wash it off and cook.
I really like how you cook ,and focus on the food ,leaving yourself out of the picture! You are an amazing cook ,and a very good teacher. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and abundant blessings
Seriously, 1 of the best ways to learn how to cook is watching these step-by-step recipe videos on RU-vid. That way you know exactly how things are meant to be done. I myself wouldn't even know how to cook properly if not for RU-vid. Making errors is fine, nothing is always going to be perfect and that's how you learn to improve and become consistent.
My dad is from Trinidad and this is how he always makes his roti. He even has specific equipment that he got when he used to live in Trinidad many many years ago that he still uses till this day. Since my family is peskitarian, instead of curry chicken we would have curry shrimp, curry crab or both with potatoes and chickpeas 🤤🤤. I cant wait to start making this myself
Girl I had to stop myself from licking my phone screen 😆 you make it look all so effortless. This is one for the books that I will try. Great job on the tutorial !
I'm Jamaican, and I don't know how to measure but I know how to eyeball and it always just right when the food is finished, it is apart of our nature. ❤️ This looks yummy
This is so mouth watering 😍 We'll usually stuff the skin with the chicken, potato, and sauce/gravy... I love roti and your channel cause I always learn something new from your way of cooking and now I know how the roti skin would look sort of grainy like it has wheat or something in it like who would have thought the skin has fillings 😰 100% mind blown. Thank you so much for sharing 😊
Came across your jerk shrimp pasta video since night and had to binge watch a bunch of videos and subscribe...your food always looks so good, well seasoned, appetizing and clean...reasons why I subscribe...plus had to support with all these Caribbean food...❤️ Caribbean ppl!
I’m a white girl but I love cooking and I love Caribbean food 🥘 😍 I’ve been binge watching your videos and this has been a game changer lol I can’t wait til this quarantine is over so I can try more of your recipes!
I recently became a subscriber! I made your Jerk Shrimp Pasta for my family, and WE ALL LOVED IT; especially my extremely finicky 18 yr. old granddaughter! I was missing your green seasoning, but I've seen your RU-vid videos and will make some to have on hand! Dinner was starting to get boring, but you have inspired this 53 yr.old to fall back in love with her kitchen! I also ordered some Maggi All Purpose Seasoning. It's nice to see someone taking the time to cook Caribbean Foods, and present it so nicely.
Trinidad is under quarantine and after watching this video I was inspired to go in the kitchen and cook some dhalpuri and curry bygian and alloo because I'm vegan so no chicken 😁
Hi, from Trinidad nice video. We don't add the potatoes to the chicken though. We cook everything separate so that each item has it's own unique flavor...
I really love your channel girl! I recently got into vegan carribean cooking and now I'm just into carribean cooking in general. I love watching you make whole meals - gives me so many ideas!!
My goodness. Thank you so much for this video. I've been wanting to make Dahl puri roti for the longest and now I feel that I can. Very good instructions
When you're in Quarantine and can't to go to your parents home to eat your parents curry but see your video and mouth is watering. This is probably the closest I've seen to my parents curry on here.
This is so well done! From the opening sequence to the pan music in the background to the calm patient way she explains the process to the camera angle. A quality production!
You make my mouth watery when watching your videos. Love the way you teach and great content. YOU Always Taking Your Time. And you have a great intro! I LOVE It
From a single man - you have woman thinking I'm a Renaissance man - deep with everything.... trust, I give you away as my secret chef and thank you for keeping me healthy and happy !!!!!!!!! Lifetime subscriber.....

I've just watched this vedio..and guess what I'm going to make this evening....CHICKEN CURRY and 😀😋😋 you explained it soo well that I don't even have to watch the vedio for instructions on 👍🏾,I just hope I get the roti right, but thank you for this lesson 🙏🏽
Omg so much similarities to india . Like is it your dish too ? History has it that many people from india has migrated to the carribian so I can understand the food similarities . It looks so tasty 😍
Yes, there are many similarities in cooking especially with people in Guyana and Trinidad. There are a few that will use make their own masala (turmeric, garlic, cumin, coriander, star anise, etc) instead of just premade curry powder. And they do call potatoes aloo in these countries also
Sunaina sharma gentle correction in your knowledge. The majority of Indians who now live in the Caribbean are the descendants of slaves / indentured laborers who were brought to the Caribbean many years ago when Britain ruled India. There are quite a number of Indians who not so long ago moved to the Caribbean islands. As such, the way we currently cook and the recipes are very similar. The nuances are due to the indentured laborers using what was available to them. The food is really delicious if cooked well.
@@nalinir5092 yes I know that just didn't want to elaborate. And thank you . And yes definitely the curries have to be tasty because I love our food and also curries have all the flavours needed with all these masalas and stuffs
@@jayjohnson8403 this is exactly as in india 😍😍 do you add cardamom in your special chicken too ? Chicken with potatoes is one of the best dish and it tastes best with both Roti and rice 😍
I just caught on to your channel (shame on me!) You are talented, I love your style, you make cooking so easy, you get right to cooking (no unnecessary chat). You give great clear and concise instructions. Need I say more? 😘
I am from the Caribbean , Jamaica 🇯🇲... we don’t put the curry on the meat we burn the curry in some oil and then add the chicken .... for me personally all I use is MAGGIE ALPURPOSE , EASI SPICE AND SOME MAGGIE CHICKEN SEASONING ALSO .... also onion , garlic , skellion and thyme , bell peppers , scotch bonnet peppers and then later on I’ll add my carrot and Irish potatoes..... Jamaican style ...... don’t get me wrong I would love to try ur way ..... it looks pretty simple n easy ...
TERRI-ANN, thank you so much about these pots you are using, purchased a whole set...they are great! thanks again...clean so easy... good cook, husband happy too!
Thankyou for sharing your wonderful recipes I really appreciate the Dahl puri roti, one bit of advice for you is don't cut down applying pressure on your weigh scales, wouldn't want to get them out of calibration. :-)
Love curry chicken with potato and channa coupled with roti. I uses Chief curry. But, I buy the roti skins. Never learned how to do roti. My mom used to make it. You have shown an easy way so I will attempt it. Thanks
Well well all this measurements are definitely not for your fans and followers of Caribbean descent. You know our hands and eyes always know how much of what to put. But good to see you're trying to convenience every one.
@fish chicken *INDIANS PRIDE OURSELVES WITH THE SAME GIFT...BOTH MY GRANDMA & MOTHER TAUGHT ME THE SKILL...I DO NOT HAVE ANY MEASURING EQUIPMENT IN MY KITCHEN 💯*
What’s with the measurements and scale for the dough no no true Caribbean/ West Indian just eye ball and never taste and just hope for the best and trust me it’s always the best👍🏽👍🏽
My step father is a trini and I learned how to make curry chicken from him. And he uses chief curry powder. As a Yankee I also use the chief to season when I baked chicken as well. A whole other level of goodness.
Kenyan guys!!! Terry Ann is Kenyan and we have Indians here as one of the 47 tribes, so a lot of their recipes have been incorporated into our cuisine. Good job TA.
