Hi! Went onto your website a week or so ago, not really intending to buy anything just yet, (small-business-made products are usually way too expensive for me to afford in this economy), just poking around at what you offer. I noticed your disclaimer about your solder having lead in it and wanted to know why? Is there a specific property that makes it good for your work? Any possible alternatives? The idea of handling lead even just to hang something up makes me kinda anxious, especially since I have dogs, with one who chews/licks/sniffs everything + I tend to mouth at my hands absentmindedly.
The most common solder used for stained glass 60% tin and 40% lead (60/40 solder). The lead basically makes it flow a lot smoother and while there is lead free, it’s a lot more difficult to work with & costly. You can find artists that work lead free though! It’s mostly personal preference 😊
Beautiful! Will this pattern be available for purchase on your website? I have not ventured into making patterns of my own so buying your patterns has been so helpful in learning stained glass art! Hopefully you will make it available! Thank you so much, you have helped me a lot!
Am I the worst if I prefer it without soldering? I get it, it’s vital for the piece, and you’re job is nest, maybe it’s just me who prefers the clean lines before soldering.
