imo Painting is still a good option! I just reserve it for pieces that are too damaged to make refinishing worth it. Refinish pieces in salvageable condition, paint ones that aren't to give them new life! Sometimes I wonder what will happen if someone tries stripping one of my paint jobs some day - the disappointment, lol

What a beautiful piece of furniture! You did an amazing job ( made it look easy too). Thank you for the play by play. I did not know that you had to clean off the stripper with mineral spirits. I always wondered what mineral spirits were for. I think I would have to use my dremmel on low to clean the nooks and crannies because it would drive me nuts doing all of that by hand. Besides having arthritic joints.

If the restorers put a coat of clear sanding sealer on the furniture BEFORE painting with colour ( chalk / gloss whatever) then the grain would not be affected by the colour coat and would strip really easily when fashions change ( as they always do).

When I was really young, I put a bowl on my night table and forgot ab it. When I went to move it, the paint of the dresser had come up w it. Idk if it was the heat of the bowl or what that caused it but I have never wanted to throw up so bad. It was in this bubbly pattern and just looked freaky🤣

Katie!!! Please please help! Ive been dying to do a similar process with an old chest of drawers I have but I'm clueless and petrified to use stripper. The piece has no paint only a thick coating of varnish. Do I still need to strip or can I just sand the piece to try remove some of the varnish as I will be painting the bottom black but leaving the top natural. Any suggestions from yourself or anyone else would be extremely welcomed and appreciated 🙏🏻✨🖤
