Stripping is a PITA, which is why I only paint vintage things that otherwise couldn't be saved. It is extremely difficult to find someone willing to pay you for the hours spent on refinishing a piece of furniture. Thanks for showing the how to with SFO. I've been curious about it. Did you keep wiping after that portion of the video? Or does it dry that much lighter? I also wonder about the durability of the finish. PS I love the reality of morning coffee with wet hair. You are so REAL on camera!
@salvagedbykscott
@salvagedbykscott Год назад
I did spend about an hour and a half (off camera) buffing in the SFO on the flat surfaces. It’s an extremely durable finish once it’s cured. They even recommend it for floors!

Katie, 64 and did stripping on my personal items for years. Getting in detailed grooves can be a daunting task but have had luck with cotton swabs drenched in fingernail polish remover and holding it on the spot to soften the paint in those little devilish areas. A clean swabs then dipped in more fingernail polish remover makes the swabs soft enough to do a little scrubbing in the hard to get locations and has never created damage on any of my pieces. Rarely has this failed me, for picking off those little specks with pointed tools would seem to be a never ending task. Lynn, Dodge City, KS, USA

Lovely job and a charming update to a family piece with a history. Paint is reversible, as you just demonstrated. It’s a lot of hard work - all that sanding😮 - but I think the end result can be worth it. I love your channel and I love the projects you have been working since you moved to your new home and community.🌸

What I actually love about this is that it solves the whole paint it/don’t paint it dilemma. The answer is both. Do what is useful for your home and saves furniture from being trashed. Paint can be removed. Damaged surfaces can be painted. Beautiful both ways.

I haven’t started stripping yet, usually rely on sanding to remove old paint but it’s not always practical, like this one. I may give it a try soon, but will start with something with far fewer curved lines and details for my first one. Nice job!

Thank you for the detailed video! I always wondered how to stop, the stripping process! (Watch a lot of redo videos and don’t recall seeing any with the mineral spirits.) The transformation of that little table is pretty amazing. Looked as though it had been a darker stain, before being painted turquoise (actually, as much as I’m not fond of painted furniture, it was cute being turquoise-to me, kinda BoHo vibe), I’d have probably gone with a darker stain. But then, everyone has their own personal preferences, right? I’m new to your videos (first saw the quick version), love your details and honesty about the hard work involved! Subscribed!

You talk to us like we’re friends….not with that sing-song uTube voice. 😉 Very valuable reminder to read labels. BTW, I’ve heard the term “chip brush” used a lot. Do you know why they’re called that? Beautiful finished piece. So sweet that you have something from your grandmother…..totally enjoyed this today! 👍 P.S. bet a vegetable brush would work great on details when stripping paint.

Absolutely gorgeous! The wood and the shape of your demi lune are so delicate and beautiful. A question for you, how can we tell the difference between a water stain and a burn? Do you tackle them both the same way? I've got a little table that I inherited with what I thought was a circular burn mark in the top...but maybe it's a water ring...

Just an FYI, never paint over raw wood, always put 2 coats of shellac, then paint. The reason why is if someone else wants to strip it, then it's so much easier, without having to use a dental pick to get the paint out of the wood grain
