You were wise to insulate the decoder - there are too many exposed areas on the board! Kapton tape is a thin polyester tape that is thin enough to allow heat to escape the board but will provide electrical insulation so I would recommend getting a roll of that (Amazon and others sell it). If you prefer not to wrap the decoder then use the same tape to insulate metal areas around the decoder.
As Martin said in the comments, Kapton tape is great as it's super thin and insulates well. The failure issues on these chips were worrying, but it seems like it's caused by DC controllers with PWM. I've ordered a couple not for the Bluetooth options but for cheap sound. It's a shame though that the decoders don't comply with the DCC size standards and might be tough to fit in a lot of locos.
I will have a look at that tape thank you very much yes I believe it like any new products your always going to have some failures the size shouldn’t be a issue for most of modern day diesel locos but steam might be
@@TheWGLOVER giving the loco address on detail screen does not set the loco address as seen in the video. It did not change it for me on DCC address. You may be able to change it in CV setting screen but I found quicker to change with my DCC controller on a programming track.
