Refining and finishing a handmade pipe is largely a task done with little more than a piece of sandpaper in the hand. But factories are able to make some really nice pipes without hand sanding at all. So, why wouldn’t a pipemaker just spend his or her time practicing and perfecting the skill of sanding with a machine? In this video I address this question and then present several of the tools and techniques that I use to sand a pipe by hand.
