Thanks for the compliment. Casa del Fascio is a pretty straight forward atrium building plan and diagram. What makes it special I think is Terragni’s composition of openings and proportions prowess

As someone who didn't get to study architecture as a profession ( back in the day when girls were excluded from tech drawing and career choices were limited) I am so appreciative of archimarathon. Your informal infill architectural development of design tragics is a wonderful contribution to my ongoing design education. 🙏👏👏👏

I've only just gotten a chance to watch this now. Know it's been a while since it got posted! I have to say that there is no better way to understand architecture than by breaking it down into blocks and working what is the main thing and how it all comes together! P referents in architecture certainly changed the way I read plans, sections and elevations! I definitely think you guys could conduct more of the Parti episodes on the side to your other videos!

if ever this channel changes name or starts a 2nd channel .... let that be *ArchiParti* :D 1:37 ... *"Decision Taken"* ... this awesome Etymological meaning ... seems to me to be more meaningful than just "organising thought ... in drawing &/or words" as it truly describes the *process* of first having explored the task at hand ... then *concluding* ... what is the *ONLY* way forward (which one should not deviate/dilute from ... keeping the MT the MT) ;-) (wow! this is turning out to be a philosophically life question ... not just about design ... *whats your parti?* ... more awesomeness from ArchiMarathon! )

Great break down and summary of a critical part of the design process. Loved the break down of Casa da Musica. I don't know why I'd started taking them out as I really think it strengthens the communication of the design.

Maybe Freie Universitat in Berlin or The Interlace' in Singapore to show the relationship between mass-void? Or some of the Brisbane stuff to blur the lines between interior-exterior?
@Archimarathon
@Archimarathon 3 года назад
Did you mean the Philology Library by Foster+Partners? That’s rather simple as it is already a diagram, almost too literal yet the spaces are better than expected. The Interlace yes, it’s part of the lecture but it’s only a throw away few slides as there isn’t the complexity the unpack neither. Brisbane stuff is another level and whilst the diagrams might be simple, the execution is something else altogether
@efeozyaba545
@efeozyaba545 3 года назад
@@Archimarathon Nah, I was thinking the whole campus in an urban scale (on second thought might look too simple on paper and mat-building concepts could be too theoretical though). I guess you wanna stick to architectural scale, how about Oslo Opera house? or Contemporary Arts Center Córdoba by Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos?

This type of content is very useful and your way of presenting it is very simple keep up the good work❤️️ I'm just wondering was that exterior form of the Casa da Musica made by coincidence or just randomly inclining the walls after having the halls positioned in those directions or did they already had that form in mind together with the hall orientation in the first place? Like there are tens of other possibilities to the form if that is the case and they could take the same orientation concept and apply in other projects near important land marks and just change the outer form. Will that affect the question of "what makes this building belong to this location"?
@Archimarathon
@Archimarathon 3 года назад
Omar El Halfawy read the excellent comment from Diego Benito. The shape also gives is more space externally as they hold outdoor concerts too and one of the faces helps bounce sound out from the slightly sunken orchestra pit (which is the cafe outdoor seating during day time)

These episodes are great! In the theme of concert halls Herzog & de Meuron's Elbphilharmonie would be great to see broken down, they also used that curvy corrugated glass, now I know why! Other than that, I would love to see an analysis of some Charles Correa work, I cant seem to find much out there. Maybe the Kanchanjunga Apartment Building, Mubai? or the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown in Portugal? Thanks! Love your work.

Champimaud Centre for the Unknown is usually on our Spain+Portugal Archimarathon. I have actually seen the LEGO version of it thru have inside at the foyer (usually you can’t just go in). Actually I would suggest you try to understand it the way we have shown already. Here is a good plan for you to get going. static.dezeen.com/uploads/2011/06/dezeen_Champalimaud-Foundation-by-Charles-Correa-25_1000.gif

In regards to Elbphilharmonie, the diagram is definitely more a sectional one. We would like to go there and talk about the building in person one day. That was what was always intended for this channel. Unfortunately we are stuck inside and running out of ideas (and steam) for good videos

One very important role that as architects we are generally quite bad at is explaining architecture to non-architects, and what separates it from building design. Some use the good/bad architecture comparison but I think that misses the point :-) In light of that I challenge you to describe Portmeirion in a way that explains why a lot of people think they like it for a particular reason but that is probably not the underlying and sub conscious reason they like it. I see the architectural jokes afresh very year that we holiday there and have little ‘internally expressed’ giggle each time I see them, repeatedly. Prince Charles’s Poundbury is another example, he thinks it succeeds due to the classical styling but accurately it is the urban planning that makes it work well and be popular, the Architectual style is just an irrelevant applied fashion statement. The media are the same misinterpreting architectural style as good/bad fashion subjectively whereas good architecture transcends both style and fashion objectively.
