The best thing we did in class with you was explaining your project to other students without showing drawings and getting them to draw the parti based on your explaination. I learnt SO much from doing this to other students as well as them doing it for my own project!

In mathematical terms, solve for "Y". If "Y" can be solved AND clearly explained, the "how" is easy. Thanks for sharing. Great video.

This is an excellent video to watch from start to finish. Every architect and and student should watch this. To know why and how to explain what something is is such an important skill. Asking why reminded me of the 5 Why’s by Sakichi Toyoda which is a process of asking why that many architects and designs would benefit from using. The explanation of the Bilbao design process and the building was excellent. I’m looking forward to sharing this with my students.

Thanks for the upload! The breakdowns of the Palace of Assembly and the Guggenheim Bilbao are so easy to understand. I think that the translation of the What and Why to the How is the hardest, especially when you have a philosophical brief. Constantly need to remind myself to look back at the What and Why to not stray away from the original intent of the project. Sometimes i also struggle with getting the message across clearly during a presentation and this video definitely helps out alot!

What? Why? How? Three questions that are also applied and implemented to close cultural gaps in intercultural communications with a client. WHAT happened in this interchange that derailed so badly? (Describe using neutral descriptive words. ) WHY? What are the assumptions, expectations, underlying beliefs, values that were underlying the communication of “the other”?) HOW? Now that we’ve considered the WHY, how will we solve this problem of our different perspectives. Who will take which actions to facilitate a productive outcome? Are the solutions systemic, interpersonal, or both?

Hey guys! Thanks for delivering another helpful video. I feel like architecture school has been A LOT of guessing. We learn theory, but not how to apply it. We learn how to draw, but we’re drawing human figures. We’re told to present, but we’re given a checklist and asked to interpret through our presentation. That type of learning style is suitable for a large majority but THIS breakdown helps me understand how to breakdown my own ideas.

This is such a delight to watch guys! Just a mini lecture but super informative ....it’s so interesting to see the evolution of the Bilbao museum...I always thought they started with form but man I’m so wrong ...great discussions guys can’t wait for the next one..!

It'll be great if you guys did one of your discussions about the democratisation of Design. A lead out could be on the cost and time of an u/grad vs the power of internet. Also would like to hear about your thoughts on the impact of AI on how architecture will be steered in the future... btw I find your roaming discussions more interesting than the sit down ones

Great video as always and really appreciate the break down of the Bilbao Guggenheim - must admit I'm not much one for Gehry designs but learning about the fundamentals of that design will give me more appreciation of a building I'm sceptical about once I can eventually visit it. Looking forward to the video on how to get started on a project - lost all confidence in my ability to design during the final semester of my Bachelor so keen for some tips before I embark on my Master's journey next year!

This is absolute gold and I plan to re watch this to notice more richness.

Back to basics, love it! PS: Have you been to Stata Centre by Gehry in Boston? MIT literally sued him cuz the roof was leaking due to weird angles.. If you are an architect designing buildings which forgets their basic purpose of providing shelter, perhaps you should ve been a sculpturer. Corbusier & Bjarke yay! Gehry nay!

The guggenheim's formal synthesis you've explained it's fantastic. I've never paid much attention to this building because always seemed to be very complicated to me to assimilate.

omg where were you guys when I needed you when I started my architecture journey. Ive been struggling to understand the fundamentals because the lecturers were always explaining in jargons and being all philosophy-ie making beginner during that time feel intimidated. As far as I did my research there was never an explanation on how to get to a 'parti' or the process on getting there and how it is used. I was always lost because I thought I was not 'waffle-y' enough compared to my course mates and it made me feel not good enough about myself,always underestimate myself and lowered my self confidence. Most of the time during my project, I wasted my time thinking if what Im doing is right,is it the right process? Will this make me sound 'waffle-y' enough, will my other course mates do it this way? How did they produce all this? Im not sure if it is because I am not a creative person that I am not able to come up or understand the concept, but god knows how much videos and articles I was searching for, to be able to find the answers. I started to have this kind of thinking since my first year but I guess it was too limiting and my lecturer wanted to see more (probably more conceptual or abstract) so it took a toll on me thinking im not good enough. Would love to hear a topic on what can actually be explore or done during the 1st year few years of architecture course in order to get better understanding on what you said could actually be 'too limiting' for understand or learn this particular video now. Dear Kevin and Andrew, I'm currently a Master student in architecture. Really love your breakdowns on analyzing architecture design. Not sure if you guys had covered this topic.. would love to hear your views on the design process where you translate ideas into drawings. In my school, we're guided to start exploring on a topic from the view of social/environment/urban perspective. So we'll do a lot of study and readings on related topic, to the extent I'm thinking the process is a bit like social science research. I actually enjoy the research process but I always have a hard time when it comes to making the decision to solve the intangible issues with tangible designs. To draw out the ideas. It confuses me to continue architecture as I really love this subject but at the same time, I'm so bad at drawing and fleshing out my building design. Any suggestion to improve it? Or alternative perspective on how architecture can be pursued for someone who can't really draw?
