I'm starting a garment weaving class this Wednesday so your suggestions have a particular relavance for me. I tend to go to used bookstores and buy old textbooks for the textile arts. I like one by Verla Birrell called The Textile Arts: A Handbook of Weaving, Braidinng, Printing, and Other Textile Techniques. I use the Handweaver's Bible for my floor loom. A website called Blurb has a cool book called Sami Band Weaving.

They sound great Mary, unfortunately (I guess due to our lack of weaving historically) you would be very lucky to find good weaving books second hand. Enjoy your class, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun!

Coming late to this party, but I like Inventive Weaving on a Little Loom, by Syne Mitchell. It came out in 2015, and is available in print and as an E-book. It covers largely the same territory as The Weaver’s Idea Book, so which you prefer is perhaps a matter of personal taste. I like to see what both authors say about any given topic, because sometimes I understand one better than the other or they have different insights.

Kelly I get completely lost with the American books when they get to the YARN, part of the instructions. The yard per pounds is so confusing which has put me off using them even though the projects look amazing. Are you able to help? I find the Australian and NZ books much easier to understand what yarn needs are for each project.

I use a lot of online conversion calculators. Yes, it's confusing but you can get used to it - it's the same for when you're buying yarn from the US, I'm ok as long as I can look up the conversion!
