I love my Clover Amour hooks. They are hybrid hooks, a combination inline and tapered hook

The furls metal streamline are nice. Different from the odyssey- but I like them better actually - for me. Like you said earlier in the video - not every hook is for everybody. But I like it because it has a perfect amount of point - not too sharp that it’ll snag but nice enough to fly through your stitches. The weight is nice seems to help crochet faster…. I love them ❤ Definitely worth trying

I got the streamline metal hooks recently and they are super sturdy. The weight is different and they're more of an inline style. But their smallest size is 3.5mm.

i love how serious you got about the Furls hooks. i never tried them but they really out here playing with ppl hard earned dollar like that in this economy is wild. I've never had a hook break on me... yet. i would be salty if i spent over $18 on a hook for it to break 😩 that's a whole hour or more of work for some of us lol we don't have time or money for that lmao

Hi there, I WAS a Furls Odyssey girl too! I was frustrated with the quality also, but loved the shape and the smooth glide of the Odyssey so …torn. After a while (and hundreds of dollars spent buying Odysseys on eBay), I decided to form my own company called FeareSilk Crochet LLC. We are currently working on an entirely new concept for a stainless steel hook!

I got four wooden furls hooks on sale and clearance and was so excited. Three different woods and 4 different sizes from 3.5 to 9 mm. None of them are able to be used because of dull hook heads and/or splinters from under the hook neck. I couldn’t even complete one small project with any of the hooks. Even my cheap set of bamboo hooks are much more functional and reliable-especially comparing the 3.5 mm.

I am a total Clover Amour girl they are honestly my go to hooks and the only hooks that I have almost a whole collection of from 2mm up to 12mm, they are the only hooks that never hurt my wrist even if I work hours with them, however I wouldn't mind either if they make a bit thicker handles and I do have tiny hands too haha I also have a few of Furls wooden ebony hooks and a few of their Andromeda galaxy hooks but I admit I only got them out of curiosity and because the colours spoke to me 😄 One of the Andromeda resin ones rolled off my night stand and the tip broke they did replace it though, but I agree hooks that expensive should be more sturdy.

You're brave! It's no fun to take a stand against something popular, even to help others with facts. There's such a fine line to walk between radical honesty and dragging for the satisfaction of it. You did great. That said, my very first Odyssey many years ago should've been caught by QC, as it had a weird sloping flaw in the throat and the whole hook was wonky, lopsided. They sent me a new hook without hassle, but I've always been wary because of that experience. I won an acrylic I/5.5 (first time Aries was released i think it was) in their chat and it's okay, but tbh i dislike the sharp edges of the hook. Ditto the G+ and N i bought in wood. I expected better finishing on the edges. Leading to me hesitating even more. I've been in some of the lives where they discussed QC issues, and my Spidey senses tingled so bad i did not buy more. My favorite hooks are Amours closely followed by the Bates ergonomic hooks. I have slightly longer hand bones and i played piano, so i totally get your flute mention! I'd encourage anyone to seek out the Bates ergonomic longer hooks, but watch out for price gouging. Shop around and when possible buy in the trio sets at a good price if you can't afford a full set. The edges are crisp too but somehow not as liable to catch as acrylic and wood Streamlines. First time watcher, subscribed. Gotta watch for little sloth's naming 😊
@DoesyourARTFIT
@DoesyourARTFIT 7 месяцев назад
Thank you so much for saying this! I’m so glad that you trusted your intuition! The wooden hooks are so light in weight I find them a little difficult to use. I love that you played piano! I hope Susan Bates makes the ergonomic hooks in all the sizes.

I was excited to find the Odyssey hooks because they have the smaller sizes. Like you, i prefer to work with smaller sizes. Im going to try the Ophire hooks but the smallest hook is 4mm. Ill wait and see what Furls comes up with but im not holding my breath! I might end up with wooden hooks which use Tuilp or Clover metal ends. I do like the wecrochet Dots but that Odyssey.... Such a shame!
@DoesyourARTFIT

Just got myself a 4.5mm Nautilus for mother's day- still waiting for it to arrive...I haven't used inlines since 2018. I have been on Tulips and clovers and they glide like butter🥰 I have been putting off buying Furls....until now😅 Maybe it was a sign early this week when I wanted to buy from a declutter...I wanted to get 1 odyssey and 2 swirls...lady just snapped at me because apparently her preemie grandson just passed away so I apologised and said sorry for her family's loss that I will get back to her after shes ready. I decided to get my first ever Furls brand new so I ordered from a shop and when I was trying to add 1 more to the 4.5mm the package was already shipped...and your video suddenly popped up on my suggested videos in the middle of the night- maybe it is a sign😅 Maybe Furls were made only for display or for gentle use😅 If my new hook breaks...I am sticking to my trusty Clovers and Tulips❤❤❤

I saw a furls hook on their site that cost $60 a few years back, though it was nice, there is no way that I would ever pay that amount for any crochet hook. I purchased two wooden hooks to try and my hand got more tired. Only used them twice, wasted my money. I’m satisfied with my Clover brand.

Sorry to hear that your favorite needles are failing you. It is refreshing to hear that someone switches needles when they are not working with their choice of fiber. Too many creators are wed to one kind of hook no matter what with no change for their arthritis, or other factors--they will just say that they can't work with finer yarns anymore. I can only work with thread and 0-2 size yarn with the softer handled hooks. I also changed my grip with age and how I manipulate the work and hook as I crochet. Have you checked out the Laurel Hill palmwood needles? They are really strong. I routinely use mine for working with two strands--one strand Scrubby and one strand stitch, soak, scrub. That's really heavy-duty pulling, and the needles hold up without bending or breaking. They have a super smooth finish as well. (If you drop one of these needles, they do bounce though. I've had to crawl under furniture searching for one after I dropped it. LOL) I hope you find another hook that meets your needs.

Happened to me with my very first Furl Zodiac hook! I had the bad habit of putting my crochet hook on my lap after a round to inspect for any mistakes as I'd do with my knitting needles, and when I got up my 4mm hook fell down and the tip just snapped off 💀💀 Thankfully, even though they don't replace breaks from drops, they did since it was my first purchase but that trauma stuck with me to this day and I keep to metal hooks 🙃

As much as I like the Furls handles, I've just drifted into using Tulips for good now. I do a lot of amigurumi with cotton yarn, and my Tulip hooks can always handle thin yarn with tight tension. Using my current set for 2 years now after I had an Odyssey break on me, and the Tulips are still going strong. I know they're shorter, and that's not what I wanted at first, but the quality has won out for me.

I hold my hook this way, too. I like an inline head and because of the way I hold the hook, I can’t stand to have a big handle. Quite honestly, the Susan Bates Silvalume work best for me. Some of mine were my grandmothers (I have been crocheting since the 4th grade, so…50 odd years) and they are still going strong. I’ve tried lots of fancy and expensive hooks and haven’t found one yet I like better than those cheap old Silvalumes.

Girl. I have been complaining about the quality of Furl's hooks FOREVER! Full disclosure, I have never been a fan of the Odyssey hooks (too heavy for me and one is too weak at the connection point for me to use it), but I did like the resin and wood hooks....until they broke. I switched to Addi Maxi Swings and Pryms. Addi's handles take some getting used to and are more of a Boye than Bates head but come in smaller, sizes. Pryms have the Bates head, but I think the smallest hook they make is a 3mm.

The other one broke as I was double crocheting. I've been crocheting for 50+ years since 1970 and have never broken a hook or a pair of knitting needles. I went and looked at buying a pretty hook but they didn’t even have any I mean any in my size I don’t get how that is a business model I hear if you drop them they break anyway. Sounds like you don’t even have to drop them. I will stick with my favourites clovers .😊

The first time I used my first and only furls hook, it broke. It was a 2.75 hook. I actually wrote the size on with a sharpie as my eyesight took too long to focus on the size(even with magnifying glasses on).

I own Tunisian Crochet hooks by Lykkess interchangeable hooks they are great and I own Denise white Tunisian crochet interchangeable hooks. They are great. I started out crocheting w Clover honey brown crochet hooks and I love them. I understand the handle may be an issue with people who have larger hands.

You said you have the larger size hooks in metal. Could you share which brand you have? It’s hard to find good metal hooks in the larger sizes (L, M, N, etc.). Thanks!

Very much enjoyed your video. I have had 2 furls hooks snap on me. It made me sad because they are expensive hooks. I too loved the weight of odyssey hooks. Also, my cat chewed the end off a wooden hook. But that’s not on them. 😺

I love my Furls resin hooks, but I hate how fragile they are. I thought the Odysseys would be better, but I have broken 2 of them snapping them in half. I thought I was the only one having problems with their hooks. I do think the quality is going downhill, which is really sad.

If a company´s crochet hooks keep breaking and so many people give their own experience, it´s obvious that it´s just bad quality and shouldn´t be supported, no matter how pretty the products are. These things are EXPENSIVE and them being so fragile makes it clear that you´re only paying for aesthetics, which should not be the deciding factor when you buy tools.

Furls are rip offs. Period. A hook that is in excess of $30-$50 is a pure exercise in status symbols of all stupid things. Have you tried Ommi or Ophire hooks that are furls without the insane prices. Me I am poor. I don’t buy any of them (furls) any more. I got one rain, it promptly broke and Furls can keep those cheaply made, very expensive hooks.

@kareninthevalley

Love what you wrote about status symbols, because I think many Furis products fit that, especially the candy line. I do think there's a place for new handle designs for some people whose hands have pain or balancing issues with thin hooks, but there's always fimo clay or the tennis ball trick for mere pennies, not double digit dollars.
