When I was struggling with depression this song was very relatable. I did a lot of research at the time trying to figure how to deal with what I was going through and I can’t remember who said it but I saw someone say “there’s a dark comfort that’s found in loneliness”. That line always comes to mind when I listen to the chorus of this song. Especially “I’ll build a wall, give you a ball and chain… just let me hold you like a hostage”

This video is relatable for me because I used to be manipulative and emotionally abusive. My home life was really good, but school was vicious. In 1st grade the playgrounds were a war zone of boys vs girls. Rocks thrown, bite marks, hair pulling, torn clothes...and I kinda liked it. I used to look forward to strategy in the next battle at recess more than caring about class time itself. I stopped wearing dresses and started wearing overalls. Sometimes I felt like a mighty little Tiger out there pouncing and kicking ass for Team Girl. The later grades were at other schools (my mom didn't like that school lol). Other schools taught me that girls are capable of turning against other girls very fast. I also learned that girls liked using boys as wespons against other girls. So between grades 4 and 8.... other girls taught me different kinds of mean-ness. They taught me how to feel insecure. They taught me how to make other's feel insecure. The boys weren't really helping their case either, they would typically join in on teasing and bullying me verbally. Occasionally one boy might try to be kind, or one girl would try to be on my side... but i had fallen so far inwards that i felt like it was Pity rather than an interest in friendship. In middle school I was finally able to make friends with other girls were were genuine 💓 and they liked me for me...even though i was a "nerd" or "weird". So I found my kind and happy self with them. But..... then puberty finished it's work on me....and I found out that i wasn't an outcast or an ugly duckling anymore. I found out boys thought i was cute or pretty. My libido was lingering deep in the back of my mind too...waiting to manifest via behavior. That's when I started feeling like I had Power. Power is Corruption. Corruption was seductive. I was not seduced by a boy... I was seduced by the awakening of a part of me that had gone dormant and then resurfaced with a new set of skills. I wasn't the mighty little tiger out on recess anymore, but rather a Tigeress who could now Hunt. My ability to gain the attention of boys was like a passive agressive "fuck all them mean ass bitches...I'm better than them" , meanwhile watching subtle words and touch make a boy swoon would give me a thrill. It wasn't abuse yet... but it was my practice for knowing what buttons to push. Soon enough, I learned how to make boys insecure... how to guilt trip... how to force emotions to surface in them and then withdraw and leave them confused. I had learned gaslighting from other girls back in 7th grade, but was now sharpening the blades in new ways. I was competitive, possessive, jealous, and sadistic. Not with every Boy.... Just with the ones who tried to play the games back at me. My main On/Off guy was doing similar things to myself and other girls in our friend group. As soon as i was aware that he was willing to deceive me, I was excited to be able to really meet all the darkness inside me so that i could use it. The sad thing was that i used other boys for practice or jealousy bait. They were the ones that didn't know that it was going to be abuse. They were mostly good kids that ended up with hurt feelings. My mom eventually pointed out that I was a bully. But the drive to Seduce, Bamboozle, and experiment with Sadistic behaviors was very strongly linked to my hormones, so I didn't really start to feel remorse until my late 20s and early 30s. I no longer have "Tiger on the Hunt" tendencies. I put all that mean-ness away during my 30s and now I don't need it anymore. The insecurities and Ego Tripping have evaporated away.

Finneas, her brother and equal musical genius, is on the backup vocals. Anytime you hear male vocals that aren't credited, it's his voice. I think one of the reasons their voices have such beautiful harmonies is because they're brother and sister.

Billie was a dancer until she injured herself in her early teens that ended her dance career, but she still does occasionally do some low intensity dancing in her videos. The guy in the video is a hired professional dancer, not a singer, the backing vocals was Finneas unless it’s stated otherwise in a ‘featuring’ note. You should check out ‘Your Power’ next, the subject matter of the song I think would interest you and the video is another that is 95% practical effect, they only used CGI for a couple wide shots that would’ve been too dangerous for her to do, even with an animal handler on set.
