fun fact! the carving of pumpkins was a celtic tradition, and they would carve symbols of protection (or scary faces) into either pumpkins or turnips in order to ward off malicious spirits! it was done on the date that is now halloween because that's when the last harvest festival of the year, now known as samhain, was celebrated!
