Great video Anna! Spot-on about (1) advice to go to community college first for the best value on what mostly has to be remote education this fall, and (2) how money is affecting the universities decision-making a lot more than they admit.
I'm a senior international student at WVU and i'm stuck outside the US. the whole thing is a mess and it boggles my mind why do we have to take in-person classes. I don't want to go through the hassle of getting special permits/government papers to go back to the US only to study for 2 weeks in-person
I’m a marketing major too! I’ll be a freshman and didn’t know about the possible 2 week thing. My main motive for still going is to meet my roommate and live in the dorms. If we do go online, I just don’t want the dorm to be taken away and booted home
I think it would be possible for us to stay on campus if people were to have the personal accountability they've been stressing the whole summer. The problem is that we're known as a party school. Many students just come here for the parties and don't care about the threat of COVID-19 associated with it. Plus I think many people have a false sense of safety because West Virginia's numbers are relatively low. As for me, I am happy that we are able to come back on campus even if it ends up only being for a little bit. I'm a sophomore this year, and it's been nice to be back at my second home. I just wish people would realize that they need to do stuff safely if they want to be able to continue to do stuff at all. Many students don't seem to get that message, and it could end up ruining it for all of us.
Would you recommend applying test optional for the fall 2021 term and submitting test scores later? I didn't get to take the SAT or ACT because they got cancelled.
You mentioned that the academics and job rates aren’t that great, but I’ve heard really positive things about the forensics programs offered. Are these academics strong or still not?
I'm a Freshman at WVU right now, and it blows. Little did I know that everything would go online, even if in the back of my mind I suspected it. Where's my welcome week, , my football games, my opportunity to meet people, have fun, drink, etc? How come kids are getting suspended for doing what college kids do? I was rushing Theta Chi. How come they let us come here knowing that we want to live like every other WVU class has in the past, and that it'd be risky. They should have had us online in the first place.
Hey. I applied to WVU as an international student in early December. I have a GPA of 3.8 and a sat score of 1150(I only took it once). I didn't get an acceptance letter yet but I got the WVU student ID and portal and MIX email ten days ago. I also paid the academic and housing deposits and also booked a dorm in dadisman. How do I know if I'm actually accepted? Please let me know
I know this isn't Covid related but do you happen to know if it would be worth it to go to WVU for forensics? It's been really hard to find a school to go to for forensics and WVU is one of the few that seem to offer a degree in it but I can't find much about what students seem to think about the program.
The only reason I'm completely stuck going back is so I can keep my scholarships bc my GPA is too bad to get them back if I were to take a gap year lol.
hey! i was a freshman this past school year and i can give you a general idea. i lived in summit hall so i ate there almost everyday. breakfast would have eggs/bacon/sausage/cereal/waffles (basically anything you could want). lunch and dinner would be different everyday ( around 2 meat options/ 2 or 3 vegetable options and sometimes potatoes or other things like that) but they always had a soup option, salad bar and a pasta/pizza bar and allergy free options. cafe evansdale is the biggest and has the most options and probably the best quality food (its made the most often so its fresh). i never ate at boreman bc i heard it was trash lol. i ate at hatfields in the lair a few times but it gets a lot of traffic and most food is gone during lunch. in my opinion, cafe evansdale was the best and summit was a close second. i'm not sure how many will be open or the options during the circumstances now tho! but when the pandemic started nothing changed besides sneeze guards so hopefully it all be ok!
Summit Cafe has the best breakfast, Hatfields has the best lunch, and Cafe Evansdale has the best dinner. Granted, I haven't ever been to Boreman Bistro, so I don't know what it's like, but I don't think it's even open right now.
Hi i am an international student. How good do you think is mining engineering graduate program in WVU? I am admitted for fall semester but i am now going there in spring due to covid. Do you think a masters in mining engineering is worth it from WVU?
I asked the same question when I first looked at WVU. I was told the following: "Yes, there are college parties. But! If you get caught up into the part scene you will not survive!" I saw my freshman year people party their way right into academic probation, then out of school. Those students are adults and that was their choice: party over academics. The state of WVa and WVU are committed to provide students a quality affordable education which they do.
