I read that the reason for the 64 mb memory is so musicians will finish their projects and not just store a bunch of incomplete songs. We will wait and see if they're right 😊

This is a beat sketch book nothing more and still beats the mpc 2000 witch was ment to be a work stations. If you used a mp. You will understand 64 mb is actually great i do wish a sd card slot was thier for easy off loads and swaping out projects tho

The novation circuit groove boxes have similar limitations. The biggest concern I have is that many TE products don’t really have manuals. You just have to figure it out on the fly. That’s not so bad for the pocket operators, but for the various op-1’s, it’s rough.

This is a Texas Instruments TI-404Mk3. It looks fun, price is good, 64mb is not bad for a sampler. Some of the old school samplers that we still use don't have that much memory.

5 min for 9 songs is plenty of time if your song is longer then 5 min you should be at the daw or using higer end gear. Its does great things but its not ment to be a mpc its a beat sketch book.

I don't judge gear by size, and do have the original k.o 33 which is fun. This one is so aesthetically pleasing and I did cop one of these, just looks fun to finger drum on, the 64mb will be fine, they are 16 bit, 20 sec max length samples which is a lot compared to what all the legends had back in the day. The only thing I'm thinking is doesn't seem to be a way to back it up which unless they change it, means you gotta ditch your stuff eventually, the original p.o had this sort of temporary workflow but that you could back up and restore. Be really keen to see what you'd cook up on one of these.

Looks like a fun gadget you could play around with on Xmas day or discretely in a coffee shop. Love the style/look too and the price is on point. My MPC One is so chunky and ugly in comparison. Akai needs to try harder at their design and show a bit more innovation. Same old square shoes boxes every time. For me, a battery powered sampler, with a mic and screen at a great price point would be Koala sampler on my iPhone. It’s more feature packed and more convenient as my phone is always with me. lol, I wrote this before watching the whole video - koala!! Yes….

Stumbled into your channel... enjoyed the vid and subbed. Confession... I have way too many samplers and drum machines, but yeah.. I bought one of these today, lol. I did the mpc thing for a long time (and still use from time to time), but mostly went Elektrons the last few years which really changed how I make music and the style a bit too. So for me... I'll use this ep-133 to make loops or do live jams both of which I'll fiddle with the knobs and try to capture da magic, lol.... which I likely resample or chop in a daw or elsewhere. That's a long way of saying I don't think I'll be making full tracks with it, but who knows. The big selling point for me is that onboard mic!!! I have lots of mics, but the onboard one + battery power opens up some cool creative things. I use to be about buying premium sample kits, but these days trying some new things to keep it fresh, lol. Thx!

Great video! I have been trying to wrap my head around the memory size of 64MB. As we all know the specs show stereo / mono sampling at 46.875 kHz / 16-bit. My calculations show if we calculate a WAV at 44kHz also at 16 bit. That would equal 12mins 05 secs (heavy on the ish). Also, I am wondering and hopeful the usb c port would support external memory at a later time? Which, I think would be ideal.. Happy creating out there everyone!

I've been listening to rap since 83, and I understand the OG producers like Marley Marl & Prince Paul were high-tech when they got MPC's that used 1.4MB floppy disks. And would have a container full of disks with all their samples. But 64MB in 2023 seems like a huge step backward. All this needed was an SD slot and BOOM 512GB card. Do you need 512GB on a device like this, absolutely not. But 64MB? Even 1GB would have been decent. I understand with compression 20 seconds is actually a decent amount of samples. But I'm used to my MPC One with a 128GB card where I had what seems like every sample in the world on it and still have 80 gigs free lol. I know this isn't an MPC One and they're not comparable, it's a cool ass machine and I'm trying to figure out why I want one, because I want one.

It’s intentionally limited, the company says that limitations will actually encourage musicians to be creative. Why else would we be interested in a little 300 dollar box unless the power and options of computers actually is overwhelming sometimes.
@Bigheadedwon
@Bigheadedwon 10 месяцев назад
@@piercemcintyre1327 I get that, it would be cool to be able to have a bunch of projects on it to work on when you’re out and not around your pc. I know the MPC One is a different beast. But I had all my projects on it and could work on 50 different things when I was away from home. I don’t even know how many projects you can save to this thing, from the little I know about TE it might just be 1 lol. It looks like it can do a lot and would probably be hella fun. Assuming this doesn’t sell out and start reselling for some stupid price I’ll be buying one.
@piercemcintyre1327
@piercemcintyre1327 10 месяцев назад
@@Bigheadedwonit’s nine projects. Yes the reason they say for that limitation is that you are more likely to work on those nine tracks or import to DAW, instead of going on to the next project and having tons of unfinished tracks in the device. I’m fine with that limitation personally, furthermore each of the nine projects can have 99 patterns in each of four groups, so technically you could stretch those four groups a lot and make multiple songs out of each nine projects. It’s plenty to work with in my opinion.
@lorrenaelliott161

I like to take a positive attitude with new stuff. I like the OP-1 and OP-Z a lot and I'm glad TE is making musical instruments again instead of the silly wooden doll things and tables. However, I watched them do an EP-133 demo on the Anderton's video and what struck me about it was that it would be very awkward and imprecise to work with samples. The display is just a group of icons that turn on and off. It doesn't show the waveform, so trimming the sample has to be done with sound only. When you want to slice a sample into pieces, you have to just listen as you play it and guess when to press a button several times to slice it; you can't see the waveform and where the slices are going to be so you can adjust it. The amount of memory is tiny compared to an SP-404; it's just too short, especially without an SD card slot. I wouldn't want to be limited to 20 seconds of sampling time. That alone is enough to be a deal breaker for me. It doesn't look like there is much precision or fine adjustment on anything. When you adjust things, it looks like you can only see four levels of adjustment on the display icons. Sometimes it's fun to have some limitations to see what you can do with them, but if there are too many I get bored with it, like with the volkas and pocket operators. I bought three of those over time and then realized for what I spent on three things that don't do much of anything I could have waited and bought one thing I can do ten times more with. I think it's a good looking little device, and I realize they were limited by the price they were going for, but if I wanted something with this form factor and workflow, I think I'd rather buy an SP-404 instead since the prices are pretty close now and it seems much more capable with samples and effects and has enough memory so that you wouldn't keep running out while trying to do things. I would like to hear some SP-404 owners' thoughts about it.
@ampex4667
@ampex4667 10 месяцев назад
owning an sp404 (for me) can feel too much like i've got the sampler from a daw with all those digital options and some pads. i am considering switching to this (if the firmware updates actually add stuff) because a sketchpad like this can do stuff immediately that the new sp404 could do but with many steps in between. the sp is too powerful for its own good sometimes

The quality/price/value of the EP-13 aside, do you think TE's use of Ali's image is cultural approptiation? I won't lie to you, I love the packaging. Ali is the greatest K.O. artist of all time. Tyson, yeah. Tank, yeah. But Ali was the man on so many levels. I wonder what Ali would think of it. .

@@justinreynolds6752 Yeah, definitely. I've been a fan of Ali since I was a Chicano kid in the 60s growing up in L.A. - Ali was someone I identified with. So I like those images and for me they add value to the EP-133. I'm just not sure TE had any other intention but to exploit his legacy; that's how cultural appropriation happens... they just don't think about it. The uncomfortable fact is that in the 60s, the establishment hated Ali. A Black Muslim man challenging the status quo, rejecting Vietnam, mocking the establishment with style. And with what's happening in the world right now, I think Ali would be pissing a lot of the establishment off again with his opinions... and I'd be proud of him for that. We could use his voice right now. Still, I ordered it today. Let's see how it compares to my Roland SP-404 II. Then again would anyone want to buy the EP-133 K.O. with Jake Paul's or Tyson Fury's mug on the box. I think not
