Let's Edit PDF Files On The Amazon Kindle Scribe 

great tip about send to kindle to write on pdf because other reviews did not mention that chance

I am falling in love with this thing.

I actually really like that I could have a 2023 calendar with tabs like that, would be great for bullet journaling. Only problem is I don't have Adobe or a good pdf editor on my laptop to make stuff like that. I'd need to rely on templates or stuff i can find online.

I was planning on getting the scribe for reading pdf textbooks of math and physics. But now without the features of making shapes and straight lines is a big deal breaker and wouldn't consider getting it until amazon adds those simple features which every pdf editor should have anyway.

That is a real bummer that you have to use send to kindle to even draw on the document.

Not being able to draw on side-loaded PDFs is a major fail; I can't believe anyone with a confidential document, for example a pre-release book proof or contract document, would trust sending it to Amazon's servers.

This answers a lot of my questions about PDFs in a kindle. This would certainly work for me for my purposes. It seems to be a whole lot faster than my Likebook P10. This is the sort of thing I mainly use my likebook P10 for. What I would like to know is about the sharing with other kindle apps. Are you able to view the markups on the apps? I suppose PDFs are not interactive on the kindle app?

The fact that your annotations (text, image, whatever) can't be edited into and travel with PDFs makes this DOA for me. I need all the pen-bound features this "reader" has but without being tied to Amazon or the Kindle store.

Unfortunately, the pdf format is not very good (readable) when the "send to Kindle" option is used. So I only read journal articles using USB transfer option as the text is readable (larger and darker). But not able to write on pdf in this way is so upsetting.

I’m wondering how the send-to-kindle site changes the file format to be usable on the Scribe. Since the document acts differently if it’s side loaded or sent via the website, there must be some kind of conversion made by Amazon.

Can you do one of your PDF experience videos where you compare the viewing quality, refresh speed, etc. of complex PDFs (in previous versions you used D&D manuals) on the various large-format e-readers like the Scribe, Remarkable, and Elipsa? You did a couple of these several years ago for earlier readers, but I haven't seen a PDF Experience comparison of the new generation....

The problem I'm having is that even sending the PDF via Send-to-Kindle (NOT side-loading!), it is formatting/treating it like your side-loaded example above. It's not letting me use the stylus for anything more than turning pages, it doesn't have the mark-up options at all. Thoughts?

oh wow, I heard the scribe couldn't write directly on the PDFs. I'm glad that's not the case! for highlighting, it looks like it makes a highlighting mark, rather than highlighting the text and making it a note (the way the normal kindle you press hold and drag), is that right?

I’m sure there will be software uodates to address this.

Can you draw on kindle unlimited books ? Or only on pdf files ?

In its current state, the note taking functions on the scribe is extremely limited. It's basically a gimmick, not a feature. They need to add more features, integrations to make it actually usable. Maybe an adobe app on kindle ? For better editing features ? OneNote etc integration ? Google drive / keep integration ? Text recognition and search ? Amazon has the biggest cloud server infrastructure in the world, they can do it if they want. And I would be ok even for an extra price (ie, 5$ monthly for enabling text recognition & search, $15 (one time) for abode PDF editor app with more powerful editing functions etc) These are all possible, but will they do it ? Naah, its Amazon, they just put out these halfassed 'features' and dont expand on them. Still, scribe can be worth its price for the size, and 300 ppi screen, for reading scientific papers, without messing with pinch&zoom. This was why DX was popular for all this time. But note taking, nobody should buy this for note taking.

Why do you say send to kindle is only way. I use send to kindle, either with send to in file menu in file explorer or if documents on desktop, Amazon has an app to download to do this. , or going to your send to kindle page on amazon and dragging into your send to kindle account. Not sure why all these review videos of pro's are saying, only way to get documents is to email when in fact there are 3 easy ways.

Exporting your highlights to other applications is probably a major pain, too. I'll pass.

wow, that looks really half-baked and intentionally difficult to integrate into your life. And like all other Amazon products, it is this way on purpose and will never be fixed to even come close to the norms people expect.

Why is these devices just slightly better but still under whelmed in actual usefulness, an clay tablet is the next level down, I need to be able to read, write and store everything

What a restrictive and tiresome device. And very expensive too.
