The Cars were one of those rarest of bands where all of their members were amazing musicians in their own right. They were absolutely magical together. RIP, Ben and Ric!
@@peterbilt-bo1vy as far as I know, he played all the instruments for the recording of the demo of The Lace. He was an incredibly talented and beautiful human being
This is even better than the excellent recorded version IMO. The way Ben changes his tempo with some of the lyrics makes me want to watch it over & over again. He was a true superstar in his day.
I love the Cars but after the debut & Panorama...they got too commercial and poppy. Despite the quirkiness of Ric , Ben was a much better singer and had a much better front man persona...just my opinion Ben Orr you are well loved and always remembered.
@@zookytarI’m pretty sure Benjamin could sing the phone book, the man’s voice is amazing and he very well could have sung the ones he didn’t sing. However I’m pretty sure Ric couldn’t sing anything Benjamin sang. I’ve heard him trying to sing Just what I needed and other Benjamin songs and he ruined them. IF Benjamin had sung ALL the songs they would have been a lot more successful.
Sadly, Ben died in 2000 from pancreatic cancer. So a true reunion could never happen. I feel the same way, Ben's voice was incredibly great, so sad that he's gone.
Just remember that three of the five members of the Cars (Ocasek Orr and Robinson) were all rock veterans and well over 30 years old in the early 80s. Those three, all legends, kept at it for years before they achieved fame.
"He's got wonderful eyes... and a risqué mouth..." That's how I would change the lyrics if I were singing this about Ben! He's so gorgeous with such an amazing voice and stage presence! R.I.P. Ben
Saw them in 1980. What a awesome show! It’s amazing how great they sounded live. Each member is awesome in their own right and together they were pure magic. RIP Ben and Ric you will always be missed
Great drumming on all their songs. That guy is right on all the time. They are all very talented that is what makes them so good. Sound good on recording or live takes a lot of talent.
Saw them in 1984 too, Austin,Tx. Wang Chung opened. Heartbeat City Tour. I've always said the same thing. I have seen a ton and I mean over 80 big named bands and that show either topped them all or a close second. Best live sound for sure!! I was 19 at the time. Considered a senior citizen now at 55 haha. Still remember that show!
Love the cars man, a huge part of my teens/20's soundtrack. 59 now & just started watching many videos of this great great band. Very sad & sweet at the same time. Ben had it all. From everything I hear he was very humble.
Totally agree. Just ran into by chance and glad I did. If you were to listen to the recorded version, you'll notice Ben's inflection (for lack of a better word) on some of the lyrics, which makes this version all that much better.
Iwas reading line notes of there greatest hits ,and even thou Ric wrote all the songs he said when they needed a song to sound smooth or pretty he had Ben Orr sing..
shes so bueatiful now...she doesn't wear her shoes...she never likes to choose,....,shes a frozen fire...my one desire..i dont want to hold her down dont want to break her ground,,when she says...LETS GO!!! I LIKE THE NIGHT LIFE BABY
