Pre-2000s Disney World was probably the "Best place on Earth" as someone could imagine it being. I like the 70s atmosphere in this video.

Agree 100 percent. The 70s is blowing up this video. It's awesome.

Oh, to be in my parents' era of Walt Disney World! However, I know some of it has changed since we were born on February 27, 2002. But I know that the Main Street Confectionery stayed the same, as well as for the Emporium and other facades that roamed Main Street, USA, the theme for Walt Disney World. And 20+ years later, I still think of WDW as the Best Vacation Site in the United States.

@@easmsagentandjapanrailwaysfan2 And, 50+ years later, Walt Disney World _still_ celebrates its milestone, until now...
@thefirstfrederickdarkwingc1966
@@littlejohnandbaloo9701 Where were you in the Spring/Summer of ’73? It's been almost 50+ years ago since the grand opening!
@easmsagentandjapanrailwaysfan2
@@littlejohnandbaloo9701 I know some attractions that stayed the same when we were born: the Enchanted Tiki Room, the Haunted Mansion, the Country Bear Jamboree, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Carousel of Progress, the list goes on. But I heard there were some new rides being added to the Magic Kingdom, like: The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (which replaced Mr. Toad's Wild Ride), The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Enchanted Tales with Belle. Up until now, I still recommend Disney World for our vacations. It makes us feel so magical.

This footage is LEGENDARY. I have no idea where you got it from, but it's rare to find nonpromotional candid footage of Disney like this from the 70s, including sound!

Back in the ‘73, Disney World had. Special program for high school seniors/graduates called Grad night. This happened before graduation. They’d close the park early and then reopen for bus loads of high school seniors and stay open until the morning. Fabulous memories. Cool & the Gang performed that night.

Had my Grad Night in 1982 with Tommy Tutone & Pointer Sisters. If memory serves me well, the other entertainer was Kenny Loggins.

May 21, 1977 for me. The ticket was only $7. That was up from $5 in 1972 - 40% inflation in five years! It was K. C. and the Sunshine Band for us. They were playing in front of the StarJets in Tomorrowland (the AstroOrbiter today). I hated them.

The good ole days of Disney World, when it was cheap, simple and not crowded. Went here every year in 1970s until I moved from Orlando in 1982. I would never go back now! Best ride was "If You Had Wings" by Eastern Airlines in Tomorrowland and it didn't require a ticket!

I was actually at Disney World on August 24, 1973! I have 9 pictures from that day. My Aunt and Uncle took me there, along with my older sister. I was 6 years old. Strangely I don't remember a lot from that day. But one attraction stands out more than the others. It was the haunted castle.👻 I have to say, I was scared to death and made my poor Uncle carry me. I barely opened my eyes and kept my face buried in his shoulder most of the time! As soon as we got inside the room where the creepy pictures were stretching, I got scared and he had to pick me up. I do remember little bits and pieces, because every now and then I would open my eyes just a little bit and take a quick peep. My Aunt and Uncle kept trying to get me to open my eyes, but I wasn't having it. I also remember It's a Small World, the Country Bear Jamboree and the Teacup ride. I think I enjoyed the teacup ride more than anything else. Thank you so much for sharing this video, I really loved seeing it!!!!😀

5:30 They're building SPACE MOUNTAIN! You could get a room at the Contemporary Resort for $21. It's nine hundred today, I kid you not! Ticket booths at the entrance . . . It cost $1.50 to park and fifty cents for the Monorail or the Ferryboat. You still had to buy tickets in books for each ride ($7.00! . . . the next year, they changed it all to one admission price, and once you were in, you were in. Big improvement. Man, the CARS! And the styles. It was a different planet, man . . . I would honestly love to see what some of those girls (the employees) look like now. I'll bet you it was a hundred friggin' degrees out that day! Very dim at night. No LEDs back then, just twinkling Christmas lights and incandescent bulbs; it is a hell of a lot brighter today.

D.W. of the '70's ROCKED! Especially for kiddies. Went there first in July 1974-it was all so overwhelming to my eyes and ears, but I got used to it more and more each visit-still have pics & home movies and even the old E ride ticket stubs. We did two summers there and realized it was cooler (temp wise) to go in the fall or winter. Great "magical" memories. Back in these days, Disney was just about the only thing around in Kissimmee & Orlando...now it's a parking lot

American Graffiti, Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and my dear friend Luci Christian were all born and released in 1973, so it’s amazing how i’m watching these 50 year old clips of the park that changed my life as a kid living in the 2000’s, as Luci and Elton do now as a 24 year old. God, i adore the 70s. 😍

I see no guests with Mickey Mouse ears. That’s another big difference between then and now! I’m from the UK and a regular visitor since 1990. My family bullied me to make my first visit . A friend said ‘no matter how good I tell you it is, when you get there you’ll think it’s even better’. He was right! See you in January 2024 for my 5th Disney Marathon and Dopey Challenge at age 67.

I liked the one family of 4 getting in for under $20. I know at this time, you had to buy books of tickets to go on the rides and they were labeled as A, B, C, D, or E attractions. My first trip to Disney World was as a kid in 1977 when I was 8. We stayed in our camper trailer in Fort Wilderness. I thought it was pretty cool. One more thing I noticed on this video is the cars. You could really hear the engines. Definitely not as quiet as today's vehicles. And I'm sure they were all using leaded gasoline.

The whole scene at 2:32 really captures what it's like when you park at Disney World. Everyone gets out. Sure everyone's excited, but they're not quite ready to show it yet, because "c'mon, we're still in the boring parking lot." I don't know why I felt the need to comment on that, but for me it's a very visceral feeling that I've had many times pullin' up to the Transportation and Ticket Center.

I went in the early 70s when I was about 5-6yrs old. I loved it of course. What surprised me now when I look, is that all I see are Caucasians. There’s no one in the footage that I could see that wasBlack, or Indian, from an Asian county like Japan for example. It made me think what the ones around my age might think when they see footage like this type. Back then I didn’t give it a second thought bc at that age, it was all I knew. I was white & surrounded by white people, but I definitely wonder about it now.
