I have no intention to go to art school myself, I've never actually ~created art~ and yet i felt soooo inspired by your words and actions. I hope art school, whichever you end up going to, will be good to you and provide you with everything you want and need to thrive :,) just from some what I know, in weimar it's a very strong community of uni kids and you'll be able (probably) to build a great network with young creatives and given that bauhaus is quite well known, it's a good stepping stone for future connections and jobs. UdK on the other hand has such a wide range of artists of all ages, so much innovation and there's lots of small "cluster networks". its more so, anything goes, anyone can be creative and I get the feeling that you'll be picked up where you are already. and of course, you have the city (i've been seeing more available wg zimmer lately too 👀) just spent all this time typing up advice when I don't even have any really experience with either of these institutions lol, omg, but maybe its still helpful for you. this is the picture these unis paint to me as an outsider. HOPE IT ALL WORKS OUT FOR YOU !!!!!

If you end up doing a masters in Ireland, pay a visit to Donegal, my aunts have a pottery studio there, I think you'd like it!!

Hey Nae, I think the Hague is a good middle ground between a buzzing city and the chill countryside. The city is creative and international (I am actually from Argentina) but it is not a chaotic as others and there are many neighbourhoods and towns around it that have peaceful nature or suburb vibes. I actually live 15 min away from the city of The Hague with public transport and can find a nice balance between city and suburb lifestyles. Although I would love to move to the center of the city since I thrive in those environments. Good luck with all your applications and would love to meet up if you come to the Netherlands!

I love that you are looking to apply at the KABK in The Hague - I am a fine arts teacher there (& was a student there 10 yrs ago) so could always share insider tips on applying there if you like :) it's such a great school!

You really really helped me in the process of figuring out that I want to do and study art last year! 💛 I actually also applied for bauhaus, but I didn't end up going there. I'm at the academy of fine arts in Nuremberg now and you definitely played a big role in inspiring me :) very exciting to see your ways

Weimar definitely so cool, even just to check out cuz it’s a town full of artists

I know everybody’s different but I just wanna share my experience: I have studied in bigger cities (like paris) and it has been amazing but also veery exhausting. For a semester abroad it’s the dream but I think on a long term - for example during your whole studies, it can be a little too much. I would recommend (besides listening to your intuition) moving to a city that is not as big but also not too small. I think cities with 100.000-400.000 people are great because it’s easier to meet people and there are still plenty of possibilities but you don’t feel overwhelmed 😊

I would love to study art abroad but there is just too much holding me here, also I am scared of not being good enough or not making a living afterwards and I am also too late to apply to most of them I could never hand in a portfolio in on time at this point. Ich schätze der Zug ist für mich abgefahren haha but at least I will get to see you thrive and live ur life. I am so excited to see what the future holds for you!

the KABK in The Hague is a wonderfull school, a couple of my friends go there and the environment is really great:)

HKU Fine Arts in Utrecht is really nice, I have a lot of friends in this art academy who all are enjoying their time there :)) And Utrecht is just an amazing city!

The Hague university had a huge controversy last semester about a student that graduated that turned out he sexually assaulted many people in campus, school didn't react in any way during and after, until it was viral and reputation was at sake and even then -when reporters wanted to speak to students about how something like this could've happen they applied several filters for Identification around and in the faculty and asked students to not give any info. They were also racist to a Turkish friend when she wanted to get info and arrange payment, and they're just overall a bit over the top. I applied to both KABK and Utrecht's HKU in Fine Art and I am soooo happy at the HKU's program with all my lil international peers it's a great atmosphere would love to see you around and or on screen :)

I'm Studying Fine arts at a community college in the united states for 2 years, then going to art school.

I think you should really dig into the philosophy of education and the curriculum of each university as with art schools there can be big differences. For example I decided to not apply in Weimar because in my opinion it was a rushed bachelors degree programme (I went for product design tho!!). Some schools in Germany still do a Diplom for a reason as opposed to a BA. I would recommend you look at the rietveld academy and eindhoven academy as well if you can afford it. And its been mentioned already, but Burg giebichensetein in halle too. Good luck

I did an exBeauxopportunities, but knowing french would really increase the opportunities there, but its easy to pick up and they give you free really good classes. A friend of mine went to Weimar and felt exactly the same ! obviously a lot more small town vibes though. Apparently the Hague is very specific, I have a friend who dropped out because it was very intense and she really struggled with the strictness and the language barrier.
