My friends, building out of the box is a pleasant, hassle-free experience. Adding some aftermarket parts can really spice up the building experience and enhance the finished model. And then... there are situations when one kit might not be just enough for that dream project of yours!

You never cease to amaze me, Night Shift. I've never seen a more brilliant use of two kits (plus) to more accurately recreate an actual historic piece of armour.

I love seeing British and French tanks, the early WW2 ones especially. They had that very clunky charm to them which the later tanks just didn't have. Where they always 'good' tanks? Not always, but good lord do they have a ton of character. Nice to see you back with a new project, keep up the fine work!
@luketfer
@luketfer Год назад
the early French WW2 tanks may not have been amazing but the Matilda II was actually really good for her time. There are written reports from german tankers who grew incredibly frustrated fighting the Matilda II because, at the time, she was the chonkiest tank in the world when it came to her armor (yes even compared to her much bigger french cousin the Char B1) with 75mm of all round protection so even dedicated anti-tank guns did bugger all to her. It wasn't until midwar that the Matilda sadly got outclassed by the 7.5cm armed Panzer IVs and thanks to her smaller turret ring it meant she couldn't be upgraded to carry the (at that stage of the war) much needed bigger gun (there was an experimental version that had the Cromwell turret with a 6pdr gun mounted on it, I can find one picture but since it never really went anywhere I doubt it was a successful test). Hence why the Germans ended up field pressing the Flak 8.8cm into an anti-tank role against Matilda IIs. In fact the impressive display from the 8.8 against the Matilda II that led to it being decided as an actual anti-tank gun and from there spun off into the Tiger project.
@willbsprueingupscalemodels3182
British armour might not be as iconic or historically venerated as tanks from other nations but I find them aesthetically pleasing with their unusual shapes and weird engineering. Your build is, as always, mind-blowingly beautiful. Looking forward to the Soviet paint job!!!

So, I love your channel. My girlfriend said it would be so cool if you painted it in Black and Gray, like the picture it's based on. If the whole diorama was black and white, it would look like a 3D photo. 😮

As a teenager i thought German Panzers were the best thing ever. Now, older and hopefully wiser, I plan on building a Churchill MkVII and an A34 Comet. They might be quirky but that's all a part of the charm. I'm looking forward to seeing the painting and weathering.

A fine model, looks like a diorama is coming along. We Brit's love to over-complicate things because it gives us a lot of time to talk about the weather, which is our national pastime, but we do eventually get there. It might be of interest...some years ago I spoke to an engineer working for the ATDU at Bovington here in the UK (a major tank training area - in fact, the original one) he said whilst the crew of a German Leopard 2 essentially only needed two tools to undertake most of their maintenance tasks...it would take the crew of a Challenger 2 twenty minutes just to un-pack the things they needed to start work. But at least our tanks have nice tea-making facilities.
@jonathandifeliciantonio9107
Good to see you again uncle Night Shift!

British tanks being overengineered is the understatement of the century. There is a game called Tank Mechanic Simulator where you restore old WW2 tanks for a museum and lemme tell you, British tanks are crazy. I've learned so much playing it and I do recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about the tank designs of the past.

Thank you, Martin, for your beautiful work, as always👍🏻😍. To make the rivets, I found that the tip of a 0.3mm mechanical pen works well with heavy duty kitchen aluminum foil, I use, as a backing, a sheet of 2mm thick foam with a layer of packing tape on top (to stop the punched (actually pushed) rivets to sink into the foam). I just bought a 0.2mm Pentel mechanical pen that I didn't try yet. The back of a drill bit doesn't really works for me, it tears the foil (in a tear shape, actually), as the "pen rivets" are almost always perfectly round, it's probably a cheapo drill bits issue😊 Good continuation👋🏻
