In this English lesson you will learn how to talk about humour in English. Humour is all around us, or at least I hope it is. There's nothing like a good joke and a good laugh to make you feel excited and happy about life. In this free English class I'll help you learn the words and phrases you'll need to know in order to talk about humour in English. I might even share a joke or two!
In this English lesson you'll learn words and phrases like: joke, comedian, to tell a joke, to get a joke, dad joke, giggle, chuckle, to kid, sense of humour and more!
I hope you enjoy this English lesson about humour and I hope you have a great day where you laugh once or twice or maybe more!
⌛ Remember: Always watch the video three times. Twice today with English subtitles on, and once tomorrow with the English subtitles off. This will reinforce the English you have learned!

As a brazilian, I have to say that we use to smile and laugh about things happen in our lifes, mainly the bad things (brazilians are really fast to create memes and jokes of our problems). It's a light way to live. About humour, I like to "act" when I'm telling something funny😁🤭By the way, I love Bob's accent (canadian accent) at words like "about, boat,..."😁🥰

Here's a silly but good one: How the oceans say "Hi"? They waves! 😂😂😂😂😂

An old Hungarian joke if you get it: A ship is going on on the ocean at night. The captain senses a light. Radioes ahead: "Please, turn right so we can avoid a crash! " Answer: "Turn left, we don't move " Captain: "We are approaching almost at full speed, turn right!" Answer: "We can't. We stay ín a lighthouse, we are unmovable. " A personal joke: My Mom worked at the post office. Her boss lied a lot. One day, a car hit the postwoman and the boss had to report it to his management. He should not have lied of course but he was so accustomed to lying, he told his boss, the postwoman got hit by the tram. The management acknowledged it. Years later, a member of the management came to town and he asked about the tram. The boss shrugged, the tram ceased to exist due to less usage of passangers. "And where are the tracks of the tram?" " Hub, the tracks got removed" Poen: the tracks are never removed. Have a great week!

Hi Bob, Just for fun if ever you were planning on dictating in French for fun to your students or to your kids! The latter is apparently very simple to read but nevertheless quite complicated to listen to and to write it down, whatever the speed of the diction! Indeed, it causes confusion of sounds and makes understand words without any meaning or sense which are not pronounced by the speaker. Here is the dictation in French "Sous un arbre vos laitues naissent, si vos laitues naissent, vos navets naissent ! ". I myself have already done this dictation to native French people and they failed by understanding and mostly writing "Sous un arbre volait une esse, si volait une esse, vous n'avez nesse !" which makes absolutely no sense. Good luck, as I said this dictation is deadly complicated but very funny to make 😃😆. In any case, it makes people laugh once they read the dictation themselves! Have fun and I wish you all the best. See you.

Hello dear Bob! Where can I ask you some questions during your online lessons? I thought I can write in a chat, but as far as I understand you get questions from students not from a chat. Thank you!

The most difficult topic to translate to other languages. The jokes are very local I think. People just don't get it the big part of jokes if they live in other countries. That's why interpreters are looking for analogs of jokes in their own language. So people can understand the meaning of the jokes.

Corny and cheesy are the same thing? Both words are translated as "cursi" by online translators. The term "cursi" in Spanish refers to someone who is overly sentimental or who relies on old-fashioned romantic resources.

I think the person at 22:09 was asking about “joke” as in “ this meeting is a joke” or when you use “sth is no joke” like “Being broke is no joke.” That rhymes too! There’s also “joke’s on you” which you can teach on the other channel! So much to teach, but you’re up for it, Banana Teacher! 💪
