For our second edition of Let's Make a Beat, we're stoked to have local house don ‪@binofski_music6037‬ in to show us how he lays down his take on that classic 90s Chicago house groove.
Binofski's been on the DJ circuit in Melbourne for many years now, with residencies at the famed Revolver club amongst others. But on the side he's also been producing non-stop, and even teaches DJing classes at the School of Synthesis ( schoolofsynthe... ). In this video he demos sampling vinyl records (with the gorgeous Technics SL-1200 M7L 50th ann edition turntable) and how quickly you can pull most of a track together with Native Instruments' standalone Maschine+.

You can use Maschine+ as a standalone device or with the Maschine VST plugin within any DAW 🙂

Really great. So good to have someone like Leroy making these deeper UK stye tunes. Doesn't really happen in Australia. Also his use of Maschine and traditional beat making techniques is hugely valuable. So nicely shot too!

I gotta say out of all the maschine plus tutorials this is the one that’s miles better than the rest. This guy not only really knows how to use this thing, but actually creates a sample track that is actually good. Which helps visualize what we’re all trying to do. I learned more in this video than a lot of other ones combined. Thanks man

Godammit...I bought a new one, spent five mega frustrating weeks with it, and then sold it, heartbroken. It just wasn't up to the job, crashed, was buggy, glitchy, etc, etc. But this has made me pine for it again...and then I realise I have the Mark3 😂

I have Mk3 too, I almost sold it, almost traded for a Stratocaster guitar once, almost traded for a Roland SP 404, but for some reason I kept it', and I'm very glad , once you dive in, theres not much Mk3 or Plus can't do, very versatile and powerful .... Just sayin

Glad you enjoyed it! No, neither Maschine or the SL-1200 have a phono preamp, so we had to run it thru a mixer then into Maschine. Plenty of low-cost turntables around that have a USB audio out or line-level output that you could plug straight into Maschine though.

Once you’ve got a nice loop together like this, how easy is it to bounce it out as individual stems to Logic? (Including the drums as individual stems also?) for arrangement and levels / final touches?

The standalone Machine+ allows you to export individual stems for all groups and scenes to the SD card, alternatively you can use the Maschine software as a plugin within your DAW and drag/drop audio or MIDI clips from the plugin into the DAW. Hope that helps!

Hello. Thanks for your video. I have maschine and I have a question. Can you make a complete song in maschine? Or do you just take this idea and work on it later on a daw? Because I don't understand but what is the Maschine sense, because if I have to export a wav to a daw, and then I want to change some filter or modify something, I would have to go back to maschine, redo again and export again to Add the wav back into the daw. Thank you so much

Hey Alessandro, there's numerous ways to approach making a finished track with Maschine depending on your personal preferences. How we tend to do it is build about 80% of the arrangement with Maschine, then use the Maschine plugin to route the Maschine software outputs to tracks in our Daw and multi-track record the tracks to audio. Then just using audio tracks, fine tune the mix, add extra elements if required etc. Bouncing it to audio is optional and just a workflow preference, you could just keep all the tracks "live" in the Maschine plugin, that way you can go back and change your filters or effects or anything you like at any time. Another popular workflow is to do all the arranging inside a DAW and just use Maschine as an idea sketch pad. There's a lot of videos and forum threads out there on the topic, unfortunately YT comments don't allow links though :(

When I bought maschine I thought that everything would be simpler, that I would simply load the plugin in ableton and each instrument would put it on each midi channel, but it confuses me a lot, since in a single midi channel you add the maschine plugin, with all groups within the same ableton Midi Channel. For this reason I decided to only use maschine software, and later see how to include it in ableton as you indicate.

@@StoreDJ_online I really like Maschine, because of the practicality it has when it comes to loading sounds (in ableton I was looking for sample by sample) while in Maschine I load groups, and I use the sounds that interest me, Too much faster. But strange from ableton , the compressor showing the audio level, or the equalizer showing the spectrum analyzer, while in Maschine you see nothing but knobs., In ableton I can also group effects chains, or just copy and paste it into the master, in Maschine I can't do that

@@StoreDJ_online Also, if I load the Maschine plugin in ableton, and create a pattern within maschine, I don't see notes in the ableton mido clip, however when I press play, the pattern sounds within Maschine, and that It also confuses, since I can also create Midi notes in that ableton channel and it would overlap me. I would like to just load the maschine plugin, with a solo instrument, and play the notes From ableton to play Maschine sounds, simply by pressing the pads. In other words, use physical Maschine as a drumpad within ableton

@@speakingcolors Like I wrote. The background track is cool but the voice tune sounds disharmonic to me. I can hear that this is not recorded for this track. But thats my impression. Other people may see this different. All fine. Regards 👍
