Probably the worst daytime version, but had the best theme music. I wish there was a clean copy of it somewhere.

Along with the ratings not being too great for this revival, I also recall the show was said to be expensive to produce from the Disney Studios. Dick Clark's company produced the show this time, instead of Monty himself, so there was less tolerance for keeping a high cost show in production. When Disney kept increasing the cost of using their facility, Dick Clark said no way. Disney took no time at all to destroy the set which had been created. Rather then re-build or try to re-group at NBC Studios in Burbank, Dick Clark Productions said "forget about the whole thing".

Not to say, the firing of its previous host Bob Hilton.

So this is why Fremantle, the company that made this game show completely ignores this short lived 1990 revival.

Monty himself said that a big issue was the staging itself and getting the prizes in and out behind the doors. You can see there is there is NO ROOM - a boat or car would be up against a wall. Other studios and, yes, The Price is Right, have a huge amount of room behind their doors. Apparently, they had to take extra downtime between acts to move prizes around, and it would be rather exhausting to keep an audience attentive. For instance, the entry to backstage would be on the side of Door 1 instead of behind the doors. Well, if that was true, you'd have to slide a car across to behind door 3, then a furniture grouping behind 2, and appliances behind 1 for the Big Deal alone! Monty was not thrilled to have to host this version.

Talk about the "new generation" creating "ground breaking television". In 1990, NBC had revivals of Let's Make A Deal, To Tell The Truth, and Concentration. None of their new stuff worked. LOL The more things change, the more they stay the same. It took an 80 year old Kitty Carlisle and an 80-something Monty Hall to fill NBC's daytime lineup.

That because Network Daytime Game Shows were on the decline at that time - Court & Talk shows were replacing game shows (today only 2 hours a game shows weekdays - both on CBS, both ABC & NBC have crap)

For 2 Weeks in 1990, There wasn't a American hosting a Game Show on NBC, Gordon Elliott (From Australia) hosting To Tell The Truth, Alex Trebek (From Ontario, Canada) hosting Classic Concentration and Monty Hall (From Manitoba, Canada) hosting Let's Make A Deal.

I'm looking up where else LMAD has aired, and it looks like the last time it aired in Australia was around 1990-1991. According to information I found, it aired on Network Ten, and the host was Vince Sorrenti. I always seem to be curious about versions of certain shows in other countries. I wonder if any of those episodes have been posted anywhere.

Monty was suppose to guest host but for some reason Bob Hilton didn't bother returning so Monty Hall hosted the rest of the series until it got canceled.
@matthewkaiser76
@matthewkaiser76 9 лет назад
cutemimi25 Bob Hilton was basically "let go". The ratings weren't that great, and Bob Hilton, while he tried, didn't seem to "get" the show. Monty had a persona of "the used car salesman", someone that you couldn't entirely trust.Bob basically went through the motions... it felt like he was "substituting" for Monty instead of making the show his own. If you can't already tell, Monty DID NOT want to step in and take over. He had hoped to find someone that could carry the show. Wayne Brady has certainly made LMAD his own show, and my only criticism of his version is WAY TOO HEAVY on the suspenseful music cues. I GET that it's a party, but we don't need music playing throughout most of the show!
