Ask hijacking my own comment to tell people to read the 1d4chan wiki article for FATAL which goes into great detail about some of the “””intricacies””” of this “””tabletop role playing game”””, such as being able to accidentally rape someone to death during normal combat, the spell FATAL which instantly kills every creature in the game including yourself and which is a possible result on the miscast table (everyone hopes to get that one), etc.

What's funny is that rear size would absolutely matter in the context of fitting clothes and armor. Bust size matters, but significantly less. You can strap yer fellers down and squeeze into most breast plates, but if you're thicc in thigh and glute, then you will have issues fitting into most faulds and cuisses. Therefore you're going to have to get armor pieces adjusted by a smith.

​@@someeggplantyes, but clothes and similar things didn't interest the people who wrote the game, and such aren't included. It's a real 'first homebrew system's problem, there's incredible detail in the parts they were interested in and no detail anywhere else. That said I'd not be against a game having butt size mechanics. It's not a fit for every system, but for something like high school monster drama it could theoretically matter.

Late to the party here, but what gets me is how irrelevant all of these measurements are. The size of your nipples and anus provide no significant bonuses or penalties. Even if he was trying to be sleezy, 98% of the info is irrelevant to game play.

​​@@ZamboniZoneI'm so sorry to tell you this but a character's anal dimensions can be incredibly important in FATAL. If you grapple an opponent, or are grappled by one, you have to roll to see if the grappler does Terrible Things in this attack. If the manhood of the creature doing the Terrible Thing exceeds the orifice dimensions of the creature being Attacked, the creature being Attacked dies instantly. This is the most efficient way to dispatch an enemy, because the combat system in this game is just as awful as character creation. I am so sorry.

To be fair, the game is intrntionally "lecherous"(said so in the original title) so these are actually relevant for the intended gameplay....the fact said gameplay involves a lot of r**e, cannibalism(or at least eating intelligent beings) and child m***er makes it undesirable to play, but it is what it is.

Like the authors do manage to raise a couple of good points, but it's buried under a lot of nitpicking ('the correct term would be character sheets') or just plain old missing the point ('where is dating included'). A big part of their 'defence' was that such content is only included for completeness 's sake, ignoring the fact that it can pop up unintentionally (check the Wrestling section) or that some parts of it are functionally meaningless. There's also an assumption that detailed=realistic=better and that people actively want one game that does everything. It also becomes clear that they've not really kept up with how RPGs changed since the 80s, showing a lack of understanding of how both Vampire: the Masquerade and Unknown Armies are designed.

The irony being that, atleast from what Ive heard, foot size may actually be the most important factor in the entire game since apparently the best strategy for "combat" is to perform, umm, involuntary anal acts involving your foot because the penalties for, umm, trying to fit the square block in the round hole deals more damage and is more lethal than actual weapons.

LMAOOO same... love how everything on that chart (if you correct 'hermaphrodite' to a more realistic description of intersex conditions) is actually fairly common. (And because I'm a math nerd, I did a bit of googles and came up with: PE- 1/300-400, PC- 1/1000, intersex- 1/100-2000 (depending on definition used), third nipple- up to 6/100, polydactyl- 1/500-1000. Which means a more realistic incidence of 'freaks of nature' would be around 7-7.5%. Assuming I did my math right. Which is unlikely considering the headache I currently have from trying to read the FATAL rulebook...)

I mean just imagine how it would go, you spend a full 8 hours creating everyone's characters, and when you finally get to play, you have a bunch of characters who all hate and want to kill/rape each other meet in a tavern, and then it immediately turns into PvP that ends within seconds because each character can only take 3 hit points of damage to the head before just immediately dying. It would be the world's longest set up for the world's worst punchline.

Depends on the culture AND what a rich person is expect to actually do. Taking a note from Feudal Japan, there was a stark contrast between officials from the capital and lords out in their territories. A feudal lord defending his territory in local skirmishes would need to be physically fit, so they value hardier food with salt for physical labor. But officials in the capital focus on paperwork, so carbs and salt would be waste and actually be unhealthy since they were not doing anything with it (fat and bad heart). So the capital preferred bland food. Basically, if you got to fight, fat means you are investing in yourself. If you are rich and focused on handing logistics at a desk, then you can spend that money in better places- such as investing in the bodies of your bodyguards.

Never thought I would be defending fatal, but I think you are misinterpreting. The +30 means that Anakim are more willing to have sex with others, not that others are more willing to have sex with them.

he somehow had friends helping him and wanted to play this game. You can see photos of them in the first edition. One of them going by the name Burnout even defended the game on forms when it first came out.

What the game actually is meant for is a human barbarian type who every session describes exactly how he drags home and "ravages" every single woman separately, in detail excruciating enough to animate in your head, for two out of four hours per game session, and rolling fifty dice along the process to determine the exact amount of human suffering you can inflict this session.

God yeah that's one thing that absolutely gets me about FATAL. It's so bad at being a horny game for kinky fun? You get so little control over your own character and what they do and believe and what their body is like. Even if you were really into the most extreme of the things it theoretically lets you do... Oops, rolled too low. Now you can't even give blowjobs. What?

This game is so goddamn horny in so many places, but if you actually try to play it on its own terms you're in for a boring time where you're most likely to get action through a randomly contracted paraphilia or just straight-up rape with a character who won't/can't have the same interests as you. That just sounds miserable and/or deeply discomforting for everyone.

Well, if you join the game for horny reasons, I'd guess those would dissipate anyway after an exhilarating round of rolling several hundred times and adding modifiers left and right to determine a bunch of stats of questionable usefulness.

This game is perfect for people with dice rolling kinks, if you had dice roll kink, you would cum about 50 times before even finishing your character, and that would only be foreplay

@@logans.7932 counter argument: why would you play FATAL instead of just pilfering the worldbuilding and running it in literally any system that's either sane or at least entertainingly "I'm rolling for WHAT????", then? This game should be considered a toy for the SM part of the BDSM community, the way it's rolled, fails to put the rolls at least in order of which modifiers to apply when, and additional rules buried halfway in the book fluff instead of in the vicinity of their relevant statblocks.

I could run a dnd retroclone like Basic Fantasy rpg, help the noobs roll their characters, and complete a starter adventure for them in less time than it would take to make a FATAL character.

Worst part is, all this extra character padding isn't fun at all. It's just tedious and prescriptive more than anything (so much shit in the FATAL character creator is just the game telling you "here's how to role play your character correctly, dumbass"). Well, on top of being offensive and completely random, of course. As far as WoD goes I've only made a character for Mage: The Ascension, and while I only barely understand how the fuck casting magic works, its complexities are a result of really interesting (albeit pretentious) and well-made world building and philosophical questions. It took awhile, but was at least fun to do. If it were another WoD game without that annoying wrinkle, I'd call it an entirely enjoyable experience worth recommending to others.

Rifts is the clunkiest system I ever learned by a country mile, so that's what it's reminding me of. Credit where it's due, the setting for Rifts is amazing and they managed to get pretty good art in some of the books. But the rules.....my god, the rules. 3d6 over here, except if it's different, which it will be, now this and this and THIS are +2 but that and that are -3 and we hope you like percentiles because we got a whole rack of 'em over here, plus we haven't talked about ISP, PPE, SDC, HP, MDC, RCC or OCC....... It's like every other system gangbanged and the baby got all the worst genes.

The thing that sets Dwarf Fortress apart from "absurdly large tables of random results" games is that a lot of stuff is generated systemically, rather than completely randomly. Characters in DF do have pretty granular descriptions, personalities, etc, but those can be drawn from tangiable things like the culture they came from, historical events that happened to them, gods they worship, etc. Rolling on tables alone does not a good facsimilie of reality make, that's the problem a lot of games, tabletop or computer, make.

It's even sillier than that - there's no hard and fast rule about what's considered attractive, neither in this nor practically any other area. In some cultures, bigger people would have been desirable. In others it would be smaller people. Likely some cultures preferred moderate sized individuals.

It's not even just rich=attractive, it was also just a lot more uncommon. It was probably seen as a pretty exciting and special thing to see someone who was overweight, especially a woman.

Yeah, for a game so dedicated to accuracy, you'd think this'd be the other way around (Overweight=well-fed=rich=attractive and all that). Even if this game was set in a time after skinny became the new hottest thing (which was I think around when colonialism was in full swing) there'd still probably be a point where even snobs would consider you too thin to be beautiful.

But, considering the diet and lives of medieval people, only a few people would be afforded the possibility to grow this fat, as even nobles were expected to be in good military shape

The idea that whoever made this didn't even know about Calculus, a type of math that was invented some centuries ago back when people were _living in stone houses_ and such, sometimes showing up as unformalized technique even further back in history, lends a lot of credibility to the idea that this was made by some deranged highschooler.

There was much more math than trig and calculus being used in the middle ages, but calculus is an unfair comparison. Newton and Leibniz, who are commonly credited with founding the field, lived from the mid 1600s to the early 1700s which is later than most fantasy settings are trying to imitate.

Legit FATAL would be much less tedious as a computer game where the machine calculates all this for you instead of a tabletop. Not better, just less tedious

@@archmagusofevil yes, they are credited as being the founders, but the underlying principles that they have codified existed in one form or another since ancient times.

Not to mention that the rule listed for bra sizing here only determines cup size, and cup size is actually relative to band size and thus means nothing on its own. A 34C, for example, is going to hold bigger breasts than a 32C and smaller breasts than a 36C even though all three are C-cups. In fact, our example 34C is going to hold bigger breasts than a 30D and smaller breasts than a 38B! A higher letter cup size doesn’t necessarily equate to bigger breasts! A character’s bra size shouldn’t even be relevant in most fantasy adventure game scenarios anyway and in the rare event it is, the player should get to decide it themself in a little process known as “getting to visualize the character you created,” but if you absolutely must have players roll for their bra size, at least learn how bra sizing works! (I spent a summer working in a lingerie store, and it is depressing how little most people actually understand about how bra sizes work.)

I just cut off the relevant part of the table. The max bench press for a human would be 595, for a 7'1" 357-pound man with a Strength score of 511... assuming I've interpreted all the rules correctly, which is a big assumption.

I'll admit, I'm curious about the premise of a "kinky number-crunchy game"

@@cyberneticsquid It's a sort of mostly text-based life-sim RPG. Lots of stats, managing your money and your skills. Trying to get achievements. You're a young adult who just lost their family, in your senior year of highschool (so you're just 18), and you have to start paying rent and avoid being attacked in the street. There's a larger fantasy world to explore. And everywhere you go, people want to have sex with you. I say all this, but I'm still in the "learning how to program a videogame" stage of development so there's a ton of ideas and not much to show for it yet. I'm currently working on "triggering random multiple-choice events" and being stymied by a bug that's causing the events to spawn twice on top of themselves. Which interferes with letting the player interact with the buttons. If you want an idea of one of my major sources of inspiration though, there's a game called Degrees of Lewdity that you can search for. It's a pretty dark and non-con focused game though. I mean, mine will be too? But not in the same way. I'm not interested in a gritty corrupt city where it feels like there's little you can do to improve your lot in life.

@@cyberneticsquid Honestly that sounds pretty fun to me too. I genuinely enjoy a certain level of crunch in my games. Once I had to be out of my apartment for 4 hours and I filled my time by sitting there rolling DnD character stat sets and calculating averages in 3 different ways. I don't think I'm going to be the one to make a TTRPG like that, but I'd play one. ...if I could find a group where would could all hash out something we'd be comfortable with. Which would be... a challenge.

I've been trying to experiment with Body Part HP for a while, I think the most supportive system would be Dagger Heart's Damage Threshold's & Armor system. Instead of 10 dmg subtracting your HP by 10, it will meet a threshold of minor damage (-1 HP), major damage (-2 HP) or Severe Damage (-3 HP). By default it's 3 / 9 / 18 for each respectively. So perhaps you could use some kind of reaction currency to block with your arms, lowering the incoming damage by 2, making it minor damage instead. But you lose "durability" or health on your arms, giving you a negative modifier to STR/DEX rolls that involve your arms or something.

Alternatively, if you really like 10 different modifiers getting applied to every roll, GURPS has modifiers for attacking all kinds of parts of the body.

When you have over 900 pages of mechanics, some of them are gonna have the potential to be actually good ideas, given actual focus

Tbf even what you said is conflating race and ethnicity. But moreover, why is race even of concern in a medieval (predating the modern conception of race) fantasy (has different sentient species which would probably take up a lot of the prejudice that developed within human culture) setting. The creators of this game seem obsessed with making everything have to have some numerical value tied to it even if it doesn't do anything. Why can't ethnic background just be a bit of backstory? I guess they were allergic to the concept of roleplaying.

You could have skin colour as black or as white relative to where you lived- but if you had the same religion and possibly spoke the same language, you would be fine
