Dude. I am an ex park ranger and naturalist. I teach outdoor education and nature programs for kids in summer camps. I will use this as a project for them. Very cool. On my own I have now watched over 20 of your videos with my 10 year old son. we put together a tool box and have obtained many materials (I create a list from your mentions in videos of tools and materials. I now have a new hobby to add to my sons current terrariums for anoles, leopard geckos, fire belly toads, and five aquariums. You are my inspiration and guide in this field of study and art. Thank you, Dan & Jacob
Excellent video, Bob Moss. I really enjoyed the terrarium you made. You should do more videos like this, where you make native terrariums out in the forest. Great job!
I cant speak for anyone else, but your channel has helped me greatly. Your explanations and creativity have motivated me to take up terrarium building which has helped me cope with stress and depression. I cant agree with you more with what you said at the end of the video. Whenever someone stupid comments something mean, just remember the people who you have inspired that might not be as active with the feedback. The vocal minority is real, and I feel that 99% of people watching have a real respect for what you are doing. Great channel, great vibes, and great work! Thank you!
I absolutely agree with your comment. I have been struggling with anxiety for years and now depression. I stumbled upon one of these videos recently and can't stop watching this channel! These videos provide such a nice sense calm and peacefulness. I have already shared this channel with several others. (Can't wait to create my own terrarium!!!) 👍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍
I normally don't comment on videos but I LOVED THIS STYLE OF VIDEO. Ur vids are always informational but I really connected with this video. I made a terrarium n a jar twice and both times the whole thing died within a week. This was so inspiring 2 watch and makes me wanna make another one this week. Amazing video and I can't wait for the next one like this. Sending love from New Jersey 😊😊
Absolutely love the little millipedes, they're so cute! Just a heads up though, as someone who keeps millis its usually not recommended to keep them together with isopods, since the isopods are scavengers and depending on the species can end up nibbling on the pedes when they molt and injuring or killing them. They will also eat the millipede eggs, if you care about getting babies. The millipedes typically dig into the substrate to molt and then are defenseless and immobile for a long while, so springtails are the preferred cleanup crew for them over isopods.
i have a heard of millipedes in one terrarium and have them scattered in others, they have such a gentle nature and are so lovely to watch. thanks for the info
Question: How long do you think they will survive without opening the container? Do we have to open it often to get some fresh air to this interesting animals?
Personally, I am VERY GLAD you did the terrarium series. They break down what could be a rather overwhelming subject (especially the ones where you explain such basics as how you make your substrate) and make it understandable. Concepts are clearly explained. Videos are very well edited. And even ones like this are very well executed. You are always clear and concise.
Thank you! I try my best to provide the best content that I possibly can. On a side note, I will be redoing the HTT series, so they will be even more involved than the original videos. Anyways, I appreciate the comments!
Anyone else getting moss envy? I am quite happy that I found that my front walkway is covered with marchantia polymorpha this year, it gave my miniature plantings a really cool look for a while. Just realised I should have looked for both male and female. Loved the video. This is such a fun and relaxing hobby, especially over the winter months.
Just got home from a walk around my local woods, having been inspired by previous terrarium videos, sat down and saw this was just uploaded. Perfect timing. Thoroughly enjoyed this style of video. Great to see someone else's local wilderness in another part of the world.
The beauty of RU-vid is that if you don’t like something simply change the video you are watching. Ignore the trolls. Do what you love. Share your passion with boldness.
I did almost exactly the same. i went into the woods and collected little ferns and mosses and bark and a neat looking stone. I left the dirt on hoping to get some native bugs but nothing came on it. I added some springtails later. The woods we own and eventually want to put a house on the land so I have brought some of the woods into my present home. It makes me feel closer to the land we will eventually be living. I made one terrarium in exactly the same jar type you used. I also used a 2 different clear plastic cookie jars and a strange looking container that the springtails just love. Then I have a small bottle that's had the top cut off and I don't like it. The plants don't seem to like it either. That I'm not sure I will keep. I might clean it out and use it on end for cut flowers. Anyway, I like watching your videos. They are calming and about something I like. I hope you take the time to continue them. I have learned a bunch of stuff. Thank you. June
Thank you, Tanner, for your wonderful videos! I purchased a Venus fly trap and decided to make it into a terrarium. I had no idea what a vast world of enjoyment laid before me. I have watched your videos for weeks now and have slowly collected some materials and tools. When my carbon fiber substrate barrier arrives next week, I will put my first terrarium together. I can hardly wait! I love "bringing the outdoors in". I'm anxious to teach these skills to my grandchildren. I also got involved in my terrarium project while my husband is battling illness. Having a project to work on that's not overwhelming to create a beautiful, peaceful display of living art has been good therapy. Looking forward to 'test driving' my new-found skills. Thank you. God bless you.
If there is any one out there that hates what you do, they probably are the kind that hate themselves, so lets wish them well and you, keep following your passion and sharing it with the world.
I also like to create terrarium from my local Forest area and sometimes I just walk the area to observe what's growing in the area mother nature's one beautiful thing and I love just seeing mother nature in a jar it's just one beautiful thing
I wish more people would appreciate the beauty of nature like you do. not only "spectacular" nature but just walking through a nearby forest on a nice day.
The people that ask "what is the point" will probably never understand it no matter how you explain it. I grow up in PA and love what you create. The only one that needs to get it is you. You have inspired me to create a few of these. I really enjoy them. Thank you!
Once again you made another cool video that I ENJOYED immensely! Please do make another one like this! You captivated my attention and made me appreciate nature more than ever!! Now to get motivated and make a terrarium! Thanks SerpaDesign!✌🏽
I grew up running around Cooks Forest PA , and that terrarium is a perfect representation of the woods I remember for sure! That’s what it’s all about ..thanks again
This wilderness terrarium video was a delight for the senses. Loved the sights and sounds of the area. Found it calming. Thanks for your work. Please make more of these kind.
I have been making terrariums for a long time and love them in the house. Nothing better than green in the house, and not having to tend it too often. Thanks so much for doing this work for us, as it shows us all how to do it better. Good job Serpa.
Please keep them coming. This is the most relaxing video going for me. Just wonderful to wonder through the forest and hear the sounds of nature, see the beautiful mosses and ferns and sunshine . Your terrariums are beautiful. Thank you.
Since finding your channel I am so inspired...I have containers but not a lot of money to work with and this just showed me I did need a lot of money..all i have to do is get out in nature and start building terrariums....thank you so much...you are teaching me something I always wanted to know but didn't think I could ever do.
I absolutely APPRECIATE you did this video! In the last few years I have under gone surgery in both ankles and am awaiting surgery in my knee. I loved hearing the nature sounds I missed so much!! Thank you than you thank YOU!!!
To paraphrase Peter McKinnon, haters are only capable of making and spreading hate. Inside they are jealous or angry at your ability to create. That you can get fulfillment form something so simple is beyond them. Top notch video! Dug the relaxing reflective pace.
Taking this idea on the road! My husband and I are finally able to take our first ever vacation next month and so I'm starting a tradition of building a keepsake terrarium when we take vacations. Thanks for the great content! I've been making my way through your back catalog of videos over the last year or so. You never disappoint, keep it up Tanner!
You are the Bob Ross of of whatever this part of youtube is called. I just stumbled upon your channel a few days ago but It only took that long to convince me to start my first terrarium. Your unique and artistic method of capturing the beauty of nature in all of your projects is so well embedded in this video. Keep up the great work man, I'm disappointed by the fact that you have haters though... what you do is obviously beyond them. Just like nature provides colors and sounds, which are rearranged into art by painters and musicians, it provides flora and fauna that you arrange into your amazing "SerpaDesigns." Bravo my friend.
I watched the video until the end and I loved it…..even the bugs *shudders* lol. I see their importance. I love how you said “peace” at the very end and left us with just that….peace.
I'm glad you forgot about the haters. Look how much you and your channel have grown. Keep on doing what you are doing. We need more people like you in this world Tanner. Thank you for all you are doing.
I like the change of setting and the sound was actually really soothing! Concerning "the point" of making Terrariums: I think getting nature inside by building them gives you not only the opportunity to understand nature better but also lets you appreciate it more. We spend so much time inside our schools, homes and workplaces, that having nature inside is a great way to reconnect with it. Also, since I`m finally back home in Germany I will rewatch the old tutorials and build a terrarium for my first apartment here. Looking forward to more Tips and Inspiration from your channel. Keep the great work up!
Another great video, and this is one of my favorite terrariums. I love the simplicity that naturally draws attention to finer details. I especially love the idea of building it while on a hike! I hope you do another one!
This was awesome, I'm gonna try this with a mason jar. Even if it fails, its ok because its about the experience and mistakes happen in nature all the time.
I just found your channel a few days ago and I’m so hooked. We (me and my girlfriend) had already been to the woods, collected inhabitants and built a native terrarium in a jar. Amazing to have it in the living room, especially in these times, when going outside is a luxury. Thanks for these videos, it’s sad some people don’t get this. Best regards from Hungary (Europe)
Great shot at the end. There is no better place to be than outside. It's my therapy. Thanks for your videos, they have been very helpful in getting started.
Thanks for sharing! Not only did I enjoy this video but my 7 year old daughter enjoyed it too. I just ordered some supplies to do our own terrarium in the wilderness. You should defiantly do more terrarium videos in the wilderness!
i LOVED every minute of this beautiful video. I watched until the end. The terrarium is stunning. As for what the point of your projects is? It makes you happy and gives you joy. THAT'S the point. And that's why I do it too. And I learned it from you Tanner. At 48 years old, I was taught a brand new fulfilling and peaceful hobby by a 25 year old. And I know I'm not the only one you've inspired. Not by a long shot.
Dear friend. My life is high stress. Iv watched your videos now for a few months, they help me relax, when my anxiety plays up. Watching the calm and humble manner you express your passion for nature, has inspired me to start building terrariums. I made my first one today! I think im hooked. Keep up the amazing work. You are doing more good than you know.
Hello! I'm from Brazil too. You're a criative person to building terrarium. There are many possibilities to create that mini ecossystem. Do more videos like this! Hugs! =)
I loved this video! I am going to make my first terrarium with my granddaughter. She is sooo excited! You have inspired me! Keep making more videos like this!!!
Your approach, naration/speech, and focus/interest on this awesome artistry is so pleasurable and informative. Much love Bruh for sharing your experience and passion👍🏼🦁💛
Although there may be MANY others doing the same type of content. Not only your subtle DEEP love for the content, but your overall honesty internally neglecting the pursuit of views. I wish you the best of your love in which we share!!!!!!!! You are the best yet on RU-vid in regrades to this genre!!! Always looking foreword to you and your content, keep it up, you've inspired me more then words can explain, or maybe that's just my lack of vocab, lol ;D
Haha thank you very much! Of course I enjoy when videos do well with the view count and bring more people to the channel, but at the end of the day I don't create art for views. I make these video to inspire and teach others how to do the same, so they too can find enjoyment in creating their own works. As it turns out and to my surprise, people ended up liking it!
hello from Bali,,, i had wathced your video 3 times and i cant stop watching it. how lucky you are! wild nature will always bless you love from Bali Indonesia
The point is that the projects look super cool. And i and other have fun watching him put them together. And, we learn from them that the point , to me.Thumbs up.
Hey SerpaDesign, I would love to see a video on incorporating mushrooms into a closed terrarium build. You commented on one of your videos a year ago that you were cultivating panellus stipticus, really want to see that video!
I grew up in PA and this video really brought me back to my childhood. I was also in a very wooded area, and nothing gave me more joy than being out in the woods and seeing nature as is. Everything down to the insects had me so happy. This video was great! I’d love to see more!!
That's how it always was we me too! My brother, friends and I would always play in the woods and it was a great time. I'm very thankful that I grew up in a place near the woods. Welcome back to PA for some nostalgia!
I'm completely hooked on these videos! I'm blown away by the living art being created on this channel and because of you I'm excited to try this for myself. Thank you for posting such incredibly inspiring content!
Passing by to say you are the best 👌 the one and only Serpa God Bless you your creations are amazing 👏 thank you for sharing your amazing talents with us saludos from my beautiful island 🏝 of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 😀
Just love! Ignore haters, keep doing what you love. Nature is truly beautiful. I appreciate your videos. Thank you for all your uplifting works of art!🏞
i think the point for making terrarium is to reconnect ourselves with nature, cos living in a city filled with lifeless electronics and plastic would made people stressed out quite easily, so having a terrarium is just like a spark of green in the dark. just to make ur life more interesting :)
I absolutely love this! My backyard is wooded and would love to see more of these video's. I have plenty of jars to start this weekend! Thank you for sharing!!
Your videos are great and you are great. I feel a lot more relaxed and calm now than I did when I hit play on this video, your voice and demeanor are very pleasant. I'm gonna get a glass jar and try this. Thank you.
You made me enthusiastic about making these terrariums. I'm going to the woods soon to collect all sorts of goodies for a closed terrarium. I can't wat to go out and get some beautiful things. Love your channel.
Thank you for all the work you put into your videos. I stumbled upon your channel sheerly by chance, and this has been greatly relaxing and it even sparked the desire to maybe have a go at making terrariums. And I really enjoy your commenting / narrating style. Very soothing.
It's amazing how nature can help us to relieve our minds. I recently discovered the magic of making a terrarium, so I really appreciate your job. I enjoyed every video! pls, do more videos in nature!
I loved the simplicity of the terrarium, the few elements that you added were very interesting. I can't believe that you have haters but I guess anything is possible. The relaxing outdoor lights and sounds were just perfect.
Enjoyed this video. I want one like the one you just made. So very peachful seeing how make terrariums outside. All your videos are so enlightening. Thank you
I know this is an older video, but I loved this! :) How anyone can ask what the point of appreciating and learning to better understand nature, bringing her into our homes and lives, is, is beyond me. People fill their lives with SO much pointless crap, but this is meaningful :)
Really like this because it’s something that someone who is just starting and trying to make a simple terrarium with buying a bunch of fancy stuff could easily follow! Great job :)
