One of my favorite aspects of your videos is watching the close captioning (I have significant hearing loss). The southern in you shows when you say "boil", it shows as "bowl". The captioning usually understands oil, but occasionally shows as oal. Makes me laugh every time. I look forward to Tuesdays and Fridays for sure. Keep on keepin' on!

I married a southerner and the struggle is real when it comes to voice recognition software. AI technology absolutely CANNOT understand him. He gets so frustrated with Siri sometimes trying to voice to text or play a song. She never understands him correctly and always plays the most random music when he asks to hear a song. It’s so funny to me but it makes him super mad so I try REALLY hard not to laugh.

It’s country fried steak and although your recipe looks delicious, it was overly complicated. Next time you might want to try coating the meat in flour, salt and pepper then pan fry in half the oil. That’s really all that’s needed. We always add onions to the pan while frying and then add flour for gravy.

Chef here. Pretty much every culture in the world has it's own version of "chicken fried steak." Pounded and breaded cutlets of whatever animal is handy. Schnitzel, Milanesa, Palomilla, Picatta, Katsu, just to name a few. In the US, it's pretty much a Southern and Midwestern thing. You should see what they do in Indiana with a pork cutlet. Or Hawaii.

Hi Mandy, this dyed in the wool New England girl is loving your channel and southern charm. Every year I decide on a different cookbook in which to make a different recipe from every month. This year I decided to make at least one of your meals a month. I discovered you right around Christmas and already made the Rice, Beans and Kielbasa. Yum. I'm all alone so I'll be halfing your halfs. Anyway I do have a tip for you, I've found the best thing to use for when you want to coat chicken, pork ect. in crumbs is a pie plate. It gives you the surface space of a plate, but with higher sides. I also use it for when I make French toast. And I've heated up Leftovers in the microwave because my dinner dishes are vintage. I hardly ever make pies but keep 2 pie plates in my cabinet. Oh yeah, I take the stems off the spinach too. They go into my bag of veggie scraps in the freezer for making my own veggies broth.

Mandy, whenever I bread something I put my breaded meat on my cookie drying rack to let the breading set on the meat before cooking. That way the breading really attaches to the meat so It never falls off. I let it sit on that drying rack for about 5 mins before I cook it. Just an FYI for ya. We love chicken fried steak too.

Another great edition. Two things to consider. ALWAYS choke up on a knife, so your thumb, first finger, and sometimes second, are on the metal right in front of the handle. MUCH more control. Cutting an onion, or other dense veg. with a finger on top of the blade is not safe. Also the breading. Wet, and dry method. You were using your left hand to pick up the tenders from the drench, place that item on the plate with the dredge. The other hand only handles whatever is already in the dry coating mix, and to place it, in an air-fryer basket, on a pan, or holding tray, etc. Always glad to see the notification pop up for a new vid.

1: Yes, chicken fried steak is a 100% southern thing, that somehow managed to reach us here in NY, by way of a buffet restaurant that has since gone bankrupt (guess all you can eat is a bad idea sometimes) 2: I haven't really gone and fried anything on the stovetop like that, mainly because I didn't have the cookware needed. Now, I have an enameled cast iron dutch oven, and an enameled cast iron deep frying pan. I'm ready to fry some sh*t (and started with an American take on an Austrian staple. Weinerschitzel, only I used a pounded flat pork chop. My wife loved that, so I did some chicken too. Again, loved it, and told me the obvious thing. "It's not greasy", so I knew I had it right.) 3: This week, I've tried a couple older recipes you've featured. Let me just say that neither one of them had leftovers. 4: When you said the Cheeseburger Pasta needed 3/4 lb of beef, and 1 1/2 cups of pasta, and used 1 lb of pasta, and 1 1/2 cups of pasta, it threw me. I'd have used the lb of meat, and the whole lb of pasta (you were looking for 3/4 of that box, btw) It would keep the ratios just right.

My husband and I have have been to 38 states (missing the far Northeastern states) and always eat at mom and pop diners. Almost all of them have chicken fried steaks with pepper gravy. I'm going to make the cheeseburger dish tonight. Love your channel.

Love all of your videos! Lamest Texas claims to be the birthplace of the Chicken Fried Steak. I was born and raised in Georgia and my mom would cook this all the time. Loved it then and still love it and make it today ❤

In Texas we have chicken fried steak as a STAPLE!! Especially since I’m married to a Cowboy!! Ours is just salt and pepper and milk/buttermilk ad flour. ❤️❤️

Mandy the Pioneer Peppered Gravy mix makes excellent sausage gravy for biscuits. I thank you for frying the Chicken Fried Steak. Everything looked delicious. Yes I watched the "sides" video. I need to make the zucchini. Stay warm. Have a great weekend.

Thanks Mandy for the great recipes. I want to try the Chicken Fried Steak as I have never had it before. I agree homemade gravy is the best, but when I need a substitute, I use the Heinz Gravy in a jar. The closest to homemade I have ever tried. Have a great weekend,

I use that gravy mix but I use half milk and half water instead of all water that it calls for.

Chicken fried steak is definitely a southern comfort food meal my husband is a Texan from the border near Arkansas he’s now a transplanted northwesterner living in the PNW. He cannot find one that he considers good enough out here. Always begs me to make it but it’s so messy and it costs so much money to buy all the oil for frying so I only do it on special occasions

At different restaurants up here in New Jersey, you can either find it as chicken fried steak or country fried steak, both have the white gravy on them, and they are absolutely delicious, but I am definitely going to have to make it myself now, I love it

I grew up in "SOUTH" Dakota in the 60's and we had chicken fried steak twice a month. So yes, it's a "southern" dish. ; )

Yes, chicken fried steak is a southern thing but we Yankees love it too. As well as grits, soup beans, cornbread....well, I could go on and on. Suffice to say, when I was a kid we took a trip down to the Smoky Mountains and I couldn't get enough of the food. Luckily, I had the good fortune to marry a woman who knew how to cook southern food!

I’m from Chattanooga, now live in north GA, just over the state line, but I grew up with my memaw calling it country fried steak n gravy. She dredged cubed steak in flour and salt/pepper then shallow fried with some onions. She used the oil to make a light brown roux and used water to turn to brown gravy. And cooked the steak in that gravy for like an hour on low until it was just fall apart tender. So good. Chicken fried steak to our family was the kind with thick crust like fried chicken of course and had thick white pepper gravy. Not saying memaws way was the only way, but I believe every family is different. Who cares what it’s called if it tastes good…😂Thanks for sharing!!! Oh and we always had to have mashed taters and canned sweet peas with our steak n gravy. lol still cook it that way for my boys now💚

Some things need to be old time fried to taste the best. That gravy mix is yummy too. Use it when milk is low and can't do traditional cream gravy.❤
