The majority of heat loss occurs at the joints of windows. The right joint filler is important because even the smallest cracks mean heat loss. An airtight construction foam is resistant to moisture and mould and has a low expansion pressure to prevent deformation of the frames.
Construction foam alone cannot perform the load-bearing function - mechanical fastenings are strictly recommended for window installation. Polyurethane foam hardens when exposed to air humidity. A moistened joint ensures a better foam structure.
It is wise to seal the protruding windows first from the outside and then from the inside, if necessary.
