Guerrilla Miniature Games was mentioned yesterday on WHTV that they wanted to do a neoprene mat but couldn’t find one that would manufacture in the right size and the right quantity for them. If they can find a supplier they’re keen.

Regardless of if they do one, I guarantee the aftermarket will. :)

You are correct, there was a lot of side arcs being treated as front / rear arcs... first lot of shooting some of the dakkajets firing at the fury which was in their side arc, and as you said the tailing fire :| I find this for of thing mildly irritating, professional RU-vid channel constantly making silly mistakes.

I think the box is more designed to sit in big retail stores - Barnes & Noble - more than a hobby store. To me it looks a bit more like Blitz Bowl, Combat Arena, etc, than it does Kill Team or Warcry. I think the idea is to peak people's interest and get to give the fuller game a go by ordering from the GW website.

@@andrewcook3983 Oh I agree that the starter box is aimed at a different crowd. From the looks of it, if you want a one and done boardgame, then the starter set is pretty good (leaving out the ace cards seems silly, but whatever). But if you want the proper miniatures skirmish game, then you have to buy more and by that logic the starter set is seriously lacking.

Well, I agree with your wishlist, ut as for noone else having made a lets play video, GW themselves put out a video a week ago on how to play, and the dude @toomanymetalmen have been making videos for AI for a week as well. @@rastamann2009 The GW play through I didn't actually find too helpful, oddly. I had watched TMMM but they only had unboxings up last time I checked. They do indeed have a batrep up now.

I was thinking if someone was ambitious enough, maybe we could see some telescoping base standees to adjust altitude midgame and easily enough

Rammstein117 Yeah i had Eldar for the old Aeronautica. The biggest question really is what planes they will get. They used to have Nighthawk, Phoenix and Vampire. All (awesome) FW models. Now however GW brought out Hemlocks and Crimson Hunters for 40k. No idea with what they will go, but if it’s the latter, they will only have scout or light fighters. Well essentially the imperial planes they brought out now are technically also FW, so i hope they stick with that.

It is exactly the same scale as AT. Going on the new apocalypse rules as well here's to hoping a new version of Epic is on its way...

To each their own. I like hexes and I don’t mind paying for cards. I actually just bought everything other than the starter

It gets a bit sloggy with too many planes. I’d start at 3x3 and see how you feel :)

I thought the maneuvers were numbered, so you could use a token, pick the maneuvers and then flip them over, presenting the moves you chose?

The ability to adapt on the fly to the maneuvers makes it much better than x-wing. Squadron cooperates to kill lonely enemy not spreads to all directions to guess where he might fly. The only thing I'd like to see is ace pilots moving last.

@@travisengland3882 They are. But look at what ridiculous moves you can do. A hard 3 in X-Wing might stress you out and is a left or a right. That's fixed mostly. Unless your pilot has a special skill. These maneuvers here seem to just tell you how often you may turn and how hard. But when you turn etc. is written no where it seems. So Owen could just fly whereever he wanted. Speed 8? So what I go 4, turn and go 4 back. No difficulties in avoiding the board edge, no difficulties in getting your guns pointed at your enemy. And the first flyer that moves is a sitting duck. Stalling? Seems really easy to prevent. We didn't see one stall in their whole first game. Is there really no crashing mechanic? Same height, same endpoint? We're talking Orks. Seems like a sound technique. Are there flying posts in different sizes in the box to avoid bumping models? What I miss the most is the mind game I guess. Don't know if the ace pilots etc. will add a initiative value like the one in X-Wing. If it adds a sequence to the game when which pilot moves and shoots it might add to the tactics involved. I like it that you buy the deck and you seem to be done, where as in X-Wing you had to buy every single box for upgrade cards to have the chance to play in certain tournaments for example. Or your gaming group used one of the free squadron builders, which solved the problem nicely. Don't get me wrong. I don't want a X-Wing 40k here. But even GW could have a look left and right and acknowledge sound mechanics and clever solutions. I personally don't play X-Wing anymore. V 1.0 got so bloated, that it just wasn't fun anymore. V 2.0 looks like a whole new animal, which I didn't sink my teeth into yet. Times short and I lack opponents. Mine didn't want to buy into 2nd. Judging from what I saw right here of the Starterpack, I'm just not impressed with the game. Well...rant off I guess. Thanks for reading or not reading. Had to get that out of my system. @Brother Eldrian You're not wrong, although it's fair to note that you do have to pick maneuvers before anything has moved, so you do need to anticipate your opponent a bit. With that said, the system X-Wing uses - which itself is based on the older and IMHO even better Wings of Glory system - is quite good, but it's only one way of doing flight games. This initiative-driven alternate model activation is another, and has been used in a variety of hex-based tabletop flight games. The addition of altitude and speed/energy management does add another wrinkle over X-Wing; maybe the plane you have to move first, you choose to convert energy into altitude and get above your opponent, denying them a shot this turn, and/or you use that one to "drag & bag" the opponent, by compelling the opponent to send a plane after one of yours, allowing your own friendly wingman to line up a shot, etc. I've played a lot of different flight games and for my part, I think this looks quite promising and fun.

@@surfimp Sure thing. You can play with altitude. But you are now limited to 4 different heights. Altitude wouldn't have saved Ash from the Orks since Owen's speed was incredibly high and he could have matched his altitude with ease. Especially since changes in altitude seem to be possible with every maneuver. If e.g. the snap turn would prevent you from changing your height, because it's such a demanding maneuver of it's own, it would totally change things. Or if it came at the cost of 2 speed or something. As for the when you chose maneuvers, it's the same in X-Wing. That being said, it surely isn't my final opinion of the game. I will just wait and see what get's faqed and what the real rules of this game look like. The starter set doesn't come with full rules as it seems.

I would also have really liked to see some mods based on target speed. A slow rolling bomber should be easy as pie to hit for a boom and zooming fighter.

As a side notce, the Imperial planes look VERY nice, might have to pick some up just for painting!

They confirmed on the WarhammerTV stream that they are working on 5 factions currently.

@@StrangeKvol Sadly no. But Asuryani, Chaos and Space Marines are the most likely candidates since they where in the old AI and have a lot of flyers to chose from.

Eldar for sure, probably chaos too. I could also see tau getting planes.

Also larger maps for sure. It seems every turn a plane has to be more worried about flying off the table

The starter set needs one more mission I think, including the Bombing rules so the whole idea isn’t useless out of the box. As it stands the one mission makes bombs meaningless and doesn’t incentivize using 4/9 models in the box as they feel like flying potatoes.

Guerrilla Miniature Games yeah it feels a bit weird that they include bombers but nothing for them to do! It seems like a cool game, relatively cheap in startup too. Like a 40k take on x-wing. Im close to bite but need to see a bit more before i do, will wait until after the release weekend before i make up my mind :)

Sounds just like the way that FFG used to sell X-wing where you had to buy ships you didn't even want just to get upgrade cards. Maybe not as bad as that, but still annoying.

The cards are just extra. You dont need them to play as the rules are in the rulebook.

The cards are similar to 40K datacards. Only need them if you want them. The rulebooks have everything you need.

The card one is, hopefully there’s bigger neoprene ones in the future. Community has hinted they’re on the way.

Have you seen the apocalypse rules, using movement trays etc? It plays exactly like you would expect a new edition of epic to play... Therefore with titanicus and Aeronautica hopefully a new version of Epic in this scale is on its way!

@@cdtweasel There is currently two people at Etsy that make dials that replace the tokens. One is located in USA if you prefer that, the other is someone in Spain. I bought two sets from the Spain one because shipping for me will be lower but also I found his/her design to be really neat looking and fitting the rest of the aestethics of Aeronautica. I would be surprised if we dont see GW release something official to replace the tokens sooner or later but until then ill happily use these dials!
