The Golden Lineage likely started grafting as their divine power diluted. Again, grafting is a thing frequently done in botany, and often seen on fruit trees. In trying to beef up this comment I found "The upper part of the combined plant is called the scion while the lower part is called the rootstock." That means a grafted scion has more than one meaning- The offspring/result of the grafting progress, or the part (let's say an arm) that is placed onto another body (let's say Godrick himself). "The scion contains the desired genes to be duplicated in future production by the stock/scion plant." Does this mean that the grafted scion are things that Godrick takes from to strengthen himself?
I think From Soft wanted to do more with Greyoll and probably had some quests in mind as well but due to time and size of the dragon it was scrapped. I think one of the data miners made Greyoll move in action and as a perspective It can literally take a step and move from Caelid to Limgrave. The size probably made it impossible as a proper boss fight but maybe in future updates we get to see the dragon as part of something more. Currently killing her is the only way to get the legendary incantation. Also since the first altus episode you have kept calling Godefroy Godrick, Godewyn or Godfrey :). Ash summons are actually very interesting and interactive as Redmane Knight Ogha uses a special attack only when you have access to the war cry special attack or with how Latina can ride the big wolves when they are near. Same with a certain quest related to a certain summon. I think experimenting special abilities of summons to dig deeper into details is my next thing on the list to look at lore.
Didn't expect Diddle's Organ in the beginning :D As for Greyoll, maybe the rot just got to her. I mean she didn't look that great anymore lol Also there are so many other big dragons around which look like they have been lying there for quite some time and by the way, the Radahn fight, for me personally, is probably the best soulsborne moment I ever witnessed! The reason why Radahn is so big is never mentioned I think? But Radagon was once "cursed by the fire giants" and ever since he had red hair. Maybe there are now some giant-genes in him which made Radahn grow? who knows :D
About the dialogue you can get by doing redmane castle before unlocking Radahn (doing it before killing Morgott I think). You can ask Jerren about Iji and he tells you that if you know Iji, you probably serve Ranni and that the festival will set Ranni's fate into motion. Also he tells you that all weapons Iji made were blunt as stone but didn't decay to scarlet rot. Afterwards you can go to Iji and ask him about Jerren and he tells you that Jerren was a guest of the Carian family and wonders why he allied himself with Radahn before realizing that he probably did that to help Ranni and ask you to kill Radahn.
Jerren goes by Castellan at first because it’s the title of someone who’s governing a castle. Later when you talk to him, he says that with Radahn defeated, he doesn’t have to stay there anymore. Edit: yup there at 57:45 So he goes back to being a witch/sorceress hunter. 👍🏻
Man, Radahn is such an OP character. He fought Malenia, blade of Miquella while holding back a meteor. He got inflicted with Scarlet rot to the point he became barely more than a beast, is still holding the stars back and it still took an army of npcs + the Tarnished of no renown to defeat him... and all he wanted was to ride his horse in peace... He might be my favorite Shardbearer (cheating, bc Ranni no longer holds a rune and Miquella, as far as I know, is not a shardbearer in this game...). Anyways, Dave have you rewatched the very first trailer of Elden Ring after finishing the game? It feels very intriguing on how they did something so spoilery, but only if you have the context for the spoiler...
I feel like I'm at odds with the community over Radahn because everyone seems to think he's this great badass and I'm just over here like "ok but that's a whole lotta a n i m a l c r u e l t y" like bruh he could have just let his horse go and have peace. Like, would Artorias still be cool if he magically forced Sif to guard his grave and fight to the death? That'd be a pretty sadistic move, but Radahn gets away with it.
@@existingdarkwhile there is margin for your interpretation, that's not how I feel the lore depicted Radhan. IMO the descriptions of how he learned gravity magic so he could ride his horse were more in the sense of him being less of a burden to the animal. To me that's enough to tell me he was pretty considerate and compasionate with his horse before the rot took him. And it is harder to compare the bonds humans have with horses and dogs. They fulfil very different roles. You never go about this setting considering if you're being a good person to Torrent despite your Tarnished using the poor guy as a shield for attacks (he also can summon a bunch of spirit wolfs to fight in his stead or together whith him...). Is it because Torrent looks healthy? Is it because he is a spirit animal? Is it the looks of Radhan's horse rot inflicted together with his master? Welp, there is no evidence or descriptions on how he treated his companion before being inflicted by the rot and going mad, so your way filling the blanks is most definetly not wrong, but there is margin to have different interpretations, in this particular instance. I've also saw some heat towards Radhan being a warlord (which is also fair). So yeah, fair point. I still like the epicness of Radhan.
@@andersonborba2060 The main difference for me is that when it comes to Torrent, you are given his whistle because he "chose" you, as told to you by someone speaking for him. Sif, as well, chose to guard the grave, most likely against Artorias's wishes. Now, I will admit, anyone speaking on behalf of an animal could very well be wrong or at least unreliable... but it's the only information we have.
Lol, I’m making too many comments. 😬 I agree with your response to my lore comment. In that so much of it is tied to the family drama of Marika and her spouses and kids. Whereas DS maybe had more diverse world building vs a more defined plot. Though I guess it always was about a group of main bosses we had to go beat. But this is the first time they’ve been mostly related. 💁🏻♂️ But yeah, ER is huge and has more of everything. I guess I’m also looking through a lens of 3 games and their DLC and all the lore that everyone has pieced together over a decade. So in hindsight I guess vs what 2 months or so of us digging around the lands between.
Based on that Marika dialogue, it almost makes it sound like the combination of Marika (god) and Radagon (mere champion) may have been the impetus which shattered the ring.
About 15:00 you mentioned a cemetery shade that drops something in Gelmir. It’s in the Gelmir Hero’s Grave. When you’re on the cross beams above where you can drop onto the chariot, there’s a little alcove in the wall (to the left if you looking down from the windows). There’s a cemetery shade in that alcove and it drops a pretty neat weapon that has a unique R2 attack, that’s akin to a trick weapon from Bloodborne. Unfortunately there’s no snazzy powerstance attack with two of them.
There are a few around Caelid if you look off in the distance (at the right angles). I think that’s a Bersek homage, but that might be more of a gut feeling than a real Easter egg. 🤷🏻♂️
There are a few in the later areas too but I think those are the pre Erd Tree greater Giants. Trolls are referred to as the lesser Giants and if the other Giants(not going deeper due to potential spoilers) are the normal ones, then the huge skeletons might be the Greater Giants.
The phrasing is that General Radahn HOLD Malenia to a STAND STILL meaning there was no winners nor losers so technically, yes, she didnt know defeat. In my understanding He was so formidable that Malenia did have to resorted to her Scarlet Aeonia. The problem is it is said to advance the rot therefore she wasn't able to finish Radahn after the attack put them both down. And even then I'm pretty sure ( and I migth be wrong but ) she would have been able to finish weakened Radahn. But Finlay was there and the rest is history ( well.. lore I mean )
I did this fight once without summoning on my third character. Took me an hour + and even after it, the only part I wish they'd change about the fight is the god damn run up. Seriously if Radahn threw his swords in the ocean and only used his bow, he'd be fucking invincible due to bullshit alone.
Anyone know what happened to Radahn’s feet? I always noticed that he doesn’t have any, but it hit me that that kind of emphasized that at the beginning of the boss cutscene. Is it just the scarlet rot making them fall off, kinda like some nasty gangrene? Also, as I’m writing this you mention him being huge I assumed that was because he was kinda sorta part giant… since Radagon had red hair n’all. 🤷🏻♂️
Ahhhh so his horse is like a wheelchair! :') didnt notice that, great observation, seems significant. OR he was SO dead set on riding his horse despite becoming too big he eventually cut his own feet off when they started dragging on the ground from horseback xD
Its getting ridiculous how much you're holding back on the story. It is clear right now why Radahn was holding back the stars, you have talked to Ranni and fought Starbeasts.. Come on...
