you know HC Baily you should do the original Final Fantasy Tactics Advance you know the one on GBA where there's a snowball fight in the beginning and the kid gets stuck in a book and he tries to change the world back to the way it was.
Way more interesting than the first LP of this i watched !! I'm trying to get into this game and i need someone to keep it simple stupid!!! Also i love the fact that you recently changed your sprite to Jean from Lunar 2 !!!!
In the last 2 months I've played along with your LPs for Lunar Silver Star Story Complete, Final Fantasy 2, and Mystic Ark. The first two were games from my childhood that I had never beaten until you inspired me to do so with your excellent LPs, and Mystic Ark was an awesome surprise that I never would have started without you. Now I'm about to complete another game from my childhood I never completed (aka Final Fantasy Tactics). You're the man HCBailly, thanks for all your work!
I don't like the changes to the cities either. I do highly prefer the PSP version though for the better translation, the animated cutscenes, the extra characters and the new jobs. There's a patch you can download to remove the lag from the spell animations too.
i was watching this at work so i have to keep pausing it as work comes in... but when I unpaused it at 9:40, HCBailey screamed "they came from behind!" and my volume was a bit louder than it should've been.... really awkward for me there...
I really didn't mind the PSP translation that much and I even kind of liked it. The problem is that I gave up on that version after a few hours because the slowdown in battle was horrible and it just ruined the experience in my opinion.
@drunyon214 Even FF12 was okay compared to FFT: WotL. At least in FF12, the accent wasn't nearly as thick or constant across every single line of dialogue. It was at least tolerable to me.
@vidzthief I prefer an english translation that doesn't require me to translate what the characters are saying in my head. The accents are so thick, it's almost unreadable.
I'd just like to thank you for making this lets play series, I have this game for my psp but I never really understood much of it. I understand the basics, but the tactical part is where I suck, so hopefully I can learn a lot from this game. I also never understood the story or the cut scenes I just had no clue what was going on LOL. Also this was the first final fantasy game I played, and kind of the only beside a realm reborn, so any advice would be really really helpful.
Awesome game, really excited about this LP. I do hope you decide against using @god extensively though. Not because he is overpowered in comparison to lots of other stuff you can do in this game, but because of the ease with which this OPness is achieved. Much more interesting to see other ways to do things, which actually require some sort of planning or the like.
@MsBigB777 Yes, if Ramza has been dead for a certain amount of turns, his corpse will turn into a crystal or a treasure chest, and then it's game over.
@Superchild88 I mostly researched the battle mechanics, but not a walkthrough. The problem with most text walkthroughs for class-based RPGs is that they have to be able to cover all the bases for anyone reading it. As a result, they don't give specific advice, which is useless to me.
HCBailey, do you know if FFT is easier then War Of The Lions? In WOTL I keep getting all the way till when you can get your first random encounters and these monsters just gangs up and rape me. Versus the many many other times I played it in FFT I never ever recalled this issue before. Did they amp up the monsters or something? Or do you think my skill just well sucks now? XD
You'll get your first monster ally in Chapter 2, unless you do a lot of level grinding to get the Orator (of maybe it's called Mediator in that version) job class. You get magick classes by leveling up the Chemist class, and then you can learn magicks by switching to a Mage class. If you learn both white and black magicks, then yes, you can have one character that can do both. Hope that helps!
When do ppl start to obsess with the game cause I'm seriously confused and lost in this game (got it for ios) I love all square enix games but tactics is really confusing like when do I get monster allies (I know HCBaily will later explain that) or how do I get black and white magicks?( I know I spelled that wrong its intentional) and can you make a red Mage? or a Mage with both white and black magick?
Compare to the Lufia series this game has no problem using the word god. How many times did we see it use in just one episode already lol. How I love the stasis sword, such a beastly move and its the basic move for that particular knight class :P Personally I wish the Advance Tactics games didn't do a complete 180 in the mood of the game from this one. I consider them separate series because of that.
@HCBailly I see what you're saying, and I'm hardly going to trash on you for liking the original, but I like the PSP translation as well. It's very elegant and unique, and really makes me feel transported to the Shakespeare-style world that Matsuno is clearly trying really hard to emulate. That said, both versions are fantastic, and of course the PSP's terrible load times are a point against it.
@Zelkiiro Rafa's another matter entirely, seeing as 1, you have the 2 fights before it such that if you want/need to go and level up for that fight you're either fucked or have to go through them again. 2, you have no choice in the objective being Save Rafa. 3, half the time you will lose before you get a turn. Basically, the fight is evil. If HCBailly beats that fight on his first try, I will give the man a medal
I think the text may have been semi-intentional cause of the way it was programmed. Long story short all the characters(including the blank spaces)in a field(paragraph's and comas)would scroll "faster" by quantity(more characters,more speed)and since "little money" has the least characters in the smallest field, it's the slowest moving text.
@HCBailly Totally agree. FFT's translation might be low quality and rushed, but you can understand exactly what they're saying. That's the problem with FFXII. The dialogue is way too difficult to comprehend. I'm not a fan of that or the PSP FFT translation. All this game needed was some fixing of typos and a few small changes in the translation and it would have been fine.
HCBailly, you ever considered trying the balance patch or maybe (for the fun of it) hacking in different sprites? I know you probably know the site, but they have a ton of generic sprites for replacing job classes if you ever get bored looking at the same job classes (Especially the Samurai, they look so goofy...) And there is a re-done agrias who has amazing hair.
Crap. I bought this game recently. I have never been into RPGs. I knew it was a collectors item but I really wanted to play it too. I don't think this is the right game for me to start off with learning RPGs. Waaaaaaay too much to keep track of. Is there like an RPG preschool game? LOL. Help!
Weird names they sometimes come up with. Here in this video it's Rad the squire and Dish the archer. I remember I played FFTA2 and my moogle who has the tallest MVP trophy and is also two segments left toward completion in his stats and he was given the name "Feil". Ehhh.
@HCBailly I think you'd enjoy Vagrant Story, if you haven't tried it already & many of your followers would enjoy it too. The music in that game is on par with this, the story is intriguing & the gameplay may be difficult to grasp at first, but is strategically fun.
You mention changing the portrait along with emotions- made me think of something. Have you ever heard of Wild Arms 3? It's a phenominal game, I'd reccomend it to anyone who likes turn-based RPG games with tons of puzzle elements. I'd be willing to mail ya a copy if you're interested in it -.-
And now it makes sense! I used to always think, 'Why is that so funny?' Then it got right to that part--and I just died laughing. xD God, that was just hilarious how slow that scrolling was. So now, it's extra hilarious how you always seem to have l i t t l e m o n e y.
@XGiftedGamerX It's not bad grammar in this case, the line just cracks me up because Delita is totally dissing Agrias. He basically says "Either you screwed up, or I was destined to win." And the insult is legitimate because she did screw up by getting distracted.
@HCBailly I personally agree with Vidzthief in this case, HC. Dont get me wrong, i love PS Tactics, but the thick accents sound really fitting and natural given the situation. And besides, i've studied enough Shakespeare in my time that i have no problem understanding it. xD
although i dont use it anymore are you going to demonstrate or talk about "focus/tailwind" grinding. its something i told my brother and now he just goes and spoils the game by doing as early as possible. its useful for people who just started IMO. but only if you really care.
if i was u i would start with old school sega nes snes rpg's before going for ones like this one that comes to mind is the Shining force series for tatical rpg and Lunar games for turn based rpg, and if u use to action games try any action rpg's
lol I've played this so many times and I never noticed the little money part,even when with the text that slow,lol I really had no eye for details when I was younger,the psp spelling for Igros didn't sit right with me as well ^_^
@vidzthief the PSP version was the one I was talking about. The bit about the butchered was a reference to TV Tropes. Shakespeare's writings were also archaic Modern English; Middle English was more around the 1200's. Thanks for not raging as most people do.
@HCBailly hey you should do a post game walkthrough about rare items there are butt loads of hidden ones i cant remember the guys name but i can find the guide i used when playing my game and are u aware of the duplication glitch?
@vidzthief You sir are full of win. I completely agree with the old english and medieval setting thing. I think it adds more flavour to the game and just makes it more believable that it is a medieval setting and not the 21th century.
@HCBailly oh ok, well how about if ur using an emulator, for example in ff5 ( i think ) u ended an episode 20 seconds into a cutscene, and when u started the next episode at the beginning of the cutscene. did u use save states for that?
@Shadohime Well, the game is patterned after medieval Europe, where depending on which country you lived in, a majority of people were either blonde or dark haired. Not every society looks like modern day USA.

One of the things that bugs me about this game: EVERYONE except for Delita and anyone who's older is a brown-eyed blonde. EVERYONE. Seriously. Count how many shades of blonde you see, compared to brown, black, or anything else.
@ZorkTheHedgehog During Lufia 2 he mentioned playing Disgaea he didnt like the item world thing and had other arguments. Perhaps playing this and other tactics style games may encourage him more but he sounded frustrated by it.
No witty comment about the knight that comes in and says nothing in a speech bubble? I'm a little disappointed... It really stands out because it only happens that one time. For that reason, I think it's weird and kinda funny.
@vidzthief it's not old English, it's ye olde butcherde Englishe, which is archaic Modern English, Old, and even Middle English are mostly unintelligible to Modern English speakers(unless they've studied it.) Sorry, pet peeve.
@InfernalGamer64 it stands for Damage Per Second, its a title given to any character whos job is to do damage as opposed to a tank (who takes a lot of damage without dying but deals l i t t l e d a m a g e) or a healer
@bo3abd96 In most cases, I record my episodes 12-24 hours in advance, one at a time. When recording with my brother, we'll usually record 2-4 episodes in advance, due to scheduling conflicts.
I think it means what place in the current turn order you are, for instance the active character is 01 out of 11 characters on the map. While another character may be another number in the cycle
HCBailly, How much are you planning on showing as far as contents goes, such as all the special characters, items, etc., and are you gonna demonstrate any of the many glitches/bugs in the game?
Is this the original version or the remade one with the extra characters, And will you be using a certain Thunder God in name? Good luck with this LP and hope it works out loved this game when i played it.
@Slagomancer I don't even have that. all I have is a DS and it's almost deceased. I at least hope to play Radiant Historia before it dies completely. too bad the game is so dang hard to find where I'm at.

I wonder how many episodes this will take. I estimate one episode per battle, except between chapters where the story gets heavy... and the endgame battles take at least 2 episodes.. hmmm...
Out of curiosity, when you have battles where your option of mission objective is "Save this person" and "defeat all enemies" which will you choose? Damn Mustadio and his suicidal tendencies...
AI in FFT will never turn down a guaranteed kill. There are certain battles in the game where this tendency will highly override the logic you would expect from the characters.
when i play this game along time ago i really love it but then my ps2(it was like 2003) stop being able to play, but i just tested it and its working again, so I can play along now

I can't wait to see what sort of class set-ups you go for later on... Some simple combinations can be surprisingly effective. Like Wizards with a certain sword-centred ability...

HC, are you gonna be making characters that are monks unarmed with the dual wield ability from ninjas? I found that having that kind of broke the game and made it insanely easy
The emotion of the character in the text box does change in the psp version. At least what they look like-if they are covered in blood and dieing then there's blood on the image.
I'm more curious if you plan to use that certain cameo character at all or if you're just going to get him just for completionist sake and maybe show him a bit in a random battle.
very excited for this LP - I've played through this game at least five or six times so I'm really curious as to how our strategies are different on certain fights - for example, the one on one gafgarian vs ramza fight midway through the game, or the execution battle (I dont think either of these are spoilers so I think its ok to post this!), Either way - HIGHLY looking forward to this LP, HC. Just my opinion, but when you get to the tougher fights, could you try to expand on your thoughtprocess?
I have to agree about the PSP translation. I really like the added detail, it adds a lot of depth to the plot I find, but at the same time a lot of it I had to end up reading a few times just to grasp their meaning. Almost all of the name changes annoyed or even upset me, too. I mean I guess it's just my nostalgia rearing it's head, but the re-translated names sound even dumber than the "badly" translated names.
If all knights tell the truth and all knaves tell lies.....Then how can we separate the knights from the knaves? Are the villains good? Are the Heroes hopeless brigands?
Oh God! "Igros." almost made me fall off my chair holding my chest in uninmaganeble pain. Eagrose is much better, to me at least. It just rolls off the tongue better

Final Fantasy tactics and Tactics Ogre are made by the same company and the same creators. you're basically just saying the creators ripped off their own game, what makes little to no sense, if you don't like the game good for you, but don't purposely go find a video about final fantasy tactics just to talk crap about it.
Yay, two videos in and I already learned something new :P Hm... I theorized maybe the little money part had to do with whatever was said in the Japanese version and they screwed up when translating... but I guess that's as good a guess than any. So, HC, what will you do when someone breaks an important part of your equipment? Restart the 30min battle?

Holy shit when Agrias used Stasis sword, I never expected it to move that quickly. Maybe im just so used to the PSPs slow and laggy version. I hate myself T_T
I know in the Lunar series (specially on the Playstation), the characters facial expressions in the text box would change occasionally depending on the mood.

@MsBigB777 no, even if ramzo is KOed it is not auto game. All units have to be KOed unless a certain goal is announced at the beginning at the battle is failed.
this game is kinda special as it kept me away from reality during the time of my dads heart attack so ive got a soft spot for it, cant wait for some GOD ownage ;)

Im just gonna say that Ramza's sprite look's like Marche's sprite, this game i like better, just for the story, TA was good but to up beat for my taste
I like a lot of the retranslation, but there's a bunch of unnecessary changes that just irk. Why in the world would you rename it "Eagrose"? Igros did it quite well. And then there's the incredible amount of Th->S changes and it simply does not work well.
So it is kinda like Fire Emblem, but more better, right? Also, do have to worry to keep the main character alive in FFT? Like Fire Emblem, if the main person dies, it's an automatic game over. Does that happen in this game? Tell me.
