What the heck!? That's some ungodly Auction House Luck you got there! Zoneseek is one of my favorite Espers in the game. I used to always put him on a single character, cast Vanish on that character and take him/her out to the cave west of Thamasa to grind alone. Nothing would ever deal damage 'cause all the monsters (at least in the first room) throw out only physical attacks. And with grinding one character at a time, that eliminates the need to watch for who's gaining a level next.
For anyone playing this game now and trying to get the Magicite from the auction house, there's a nifty little trick that can be replicated 99% of the time. Apparently it's what speed runners do to get the espers as quickly as possible. You're not editing any code or modifying the game at all. You're just manipulating the RNG of the game. It involves entering and exiting the auction house rapidly and paying attention to the movement of the woman NPC walking around just outside the auction house. You're looking for a pattern to her movement. Every time you walk outside for a split second, she'll take one step. You keep going in and out as fast as possible, and you're watching this NPC's movement. You want the pattern right-down-down-right. As soon as you've seen her complete that pattern, talk to the guy in the auction house that initiates the auction. If done correctly, Golem should appear for sale, and you can then buy it. After you've won that auction, enter and exit the auction house(in the same fashion you were before, as quickly as possible, don't let the screen fully load up) FOUR more times. Then initiate another auction. Zone Seek will likely appear for sale. If it doesn't, try the pattern Up-Up-Right-Left. If you see her do that pattern, chances are Zone Seek will pop up. This isn't guaranteed. But I've been able to replicate it on multiple occasions now and I was shocked to discover this. I've been able to acquire both espers within 2 minutes. I've never been so naturally lucky to get them like HCBailly was here. Not once. So this is the next best thing. Is it a little cheesy? Yes. But so is the RNG of this game.
Just to further proof my point. I'm replaying the game again 7 months later, and usually when I play through the game I like to pace myself along with HCBailly, because I forget some things like treasure locations from time to time. I got this auction house RNG manipulation to work first try. I only ever started an auction twice. First time Zoneseek popped up. Second time, Golem popped up. It's foolproof, at least on the American SNES version of the game. I really don't know how people figured this little trick out but I'm glad they did because normally trying to get these auction house espers is a royal pain in the ass.
Can confirm it works but the golem one only needed the last 3 movements of the sequence as she went left down down right and still had golem! Thanks Man! Just to note I'm playing on the Super NES Classic!
Welcome. One of the best games ever made and every time I play it I'm still fascinated that anyone was able to figure this out in the first place. It saves so much time and frustration.
Man you really got lucky with ZoneSeek and Golem. During my LP of this game, I wound up getting ZoneSeek to show up the 2nd time I went into the auction house. But I had Golem show up after going in and out of the auction house about 20 times
Man things get expensive at this auction house. It reminds me of the one in Final Fantasy IX. I could never get enough money to buy all the things that I liked to get there. Also one question, what are the numbers that appear next to each esper? Are they like the esper's level or something like that?
I suspect that "Sraphim" is a shortening of Seraphim (the highest rank of Angels in Christian mythos). Of course why Woolsey decided that eliminating a vowel rather than just shortening the "ph" to an "f" (as with "Fenix Down" is completely beyond me. As a matter of fact, he could have just as easily included the entire word without issue, which leaves me even more confused...
Buy a lottery ticket, HC. Last time i tried getting those, i spent 30 minutes at double fast forward to get both of those. :) And Zoneseek is sooooooo good. My favourite esper, because of the +2 Magic, and because of Rasp and Osmose.
that MP trick with rhodox on triangle island is amazing i was able to leard up to shell and cure 2 in 5 ninutes only awsome then you can switch espers and learn more in a hour you can probably learn almost everything you have at this point especially with airship rite there and you switch party members so quick awsome trick love it
There's only five items of varying odds of getting. Actually, I was mistaken on the second part. With both magicite available, Golem is 1/8 and Zoneseek is 1/16. However, once I got Golem, Zoneseek's odds are upgraded to 1/8. There's a walkthrough by Djibriel on GameFAQs that goes into this in great detail.
I got Zona Seeker and Golem pretty quickly on the Android version. Right now I'm evening out everyone's levels and then I'll have everyone catch up to Mog.
Though the enemy is a good one for learning magic, the rage is completely useless. The special for the Rage is Pep Up, which would instantly remove Gau from the battle. So using the Intangir Rage is as good as playing with just 3 members.
As someone else pointed out, the Rage isn't completely useless. As long as Gau is muted before the Rage, this rage will give him absorption to all 8 elements, which would make him pretty much invincible. ^ That was something I myself din't know, as I just look at the special attacks of the Rages, not the special stats.
Wait, so the 2 magicites aren't supposed to appear side by side on the first try? It always has for me, usually it goes zoneseek, golem, but sometimes it switches.
I liked the auction house in FFIX, because they had really good items, and if you didn't want the items, you could just leave and come back quickly instead of having to sit through the whole minutes-long auction like in this version.
And now, after having to restart his file due to save loss, he (NickBoyd) got them on his first two trips to the auction house. I witnessed it. You two and your obscene luck, I swear.
Why would going from the "House" to the Veldt rui everything? Is there something i missed i like went into hibernation in Mexico for 5 days so can help me.?
I think your pronunciation of Tzen is probably about right. Also, a yokel's a person who's dimwitted or not very bright. And I want eggs now. Goddamn it.
After reading HC's earlier post. At the start, the 2 espers have a 1/8 and a 1/16 odds respectively, so while trying to get the first esper, you have a 1/8 + 1/16 = 3/16 = 18.75% chance to get one. After the first esper is won, the odds of the other esper are upgraded to 1/8. So you have a 12.5% chance of getting the 2nd one each time. Multiply the 2 percents together, and the odds of getting the 2 espers on your first try are 2.34375%
Hey, isn't it actually a 1/56 or 1.79% chance? If I understand how the auction house works, the first Magicite (1/8 chance) gets removed from the item pool, leaving only 7 items and a 1/7 chance to get another Magicite. Because the two events are independent of each other, don't you have to multiply the two chances together to get a 1/56 chance? If not, could somebody explain the 1/8 times 1/16 chance thing to me?
HCBailly, I know exactly why you got those 2 Espers in the auction house on your first 2 tries. I gave you a preemptive "Luck of the Jay". It works well. The name of this special luck comes from me playing Halo 2 LAN parties mainly. I take constant head shots from a Sniper Rifle and for some reason not die, where as other people take 1 head shot and die. My luck only seems to work with video games though as I have yet to win the lottery lol.
After fighting Intangir, you can also get his rage on the Veldt..which will give Gau complete status immunity, absorption of all 8 elements, auto-Haste, Clear, Float, Safe, and Shell..the catch? The special attack is Pep Up, which will heal an ally's HP and MP but zero out Gau's HP and MP and kick him out of the battle. To get around that, mute Gau before he selects the rage. Unfortunately, all he can do then is physically attack..but he's just about invincible, especially at this point.
WOW! HC Bailly, you are the fucking manI was playing FFIV DS while watching your vids, farming for pink tails. I've been trying to get my last one for three solid days now with no luck. when you got that second magicite and said "today is my lucky day" I finally got it! I'm convinced that your good luck rubbed off on me. keep up the awesome work!
Oh yeah, there's one more interesting place to explore next episode....actually two. One is the forest south of Phantom Forest and the other place is to the northeast of that forest, along a narrow strip of land. Let's just say this coastal strip, is, well, known for its music....
Does anyone know if Snare works on Intangirs in the Advance version? I've just been casting Stop and trying to deal as much damage as possible and hope that the person that deals the killing blow didn't need the Magic Points that much.
True, that does remove just about all of what challenge remains..what about pure physical tanks? That's just as cheap (and probably only really useful in low-level games), but at least there's some effort involved in getting the necessary equipment.
aw man when i go to the auction house to get golem or zoneseek the first time it's a talking chocobo and the seconda tipe a chest with i don't know and it keep selling that freaking chest! how do i get those magicite?
So Triangle Island is like the underwater plane in FF7 and the south eastern Island in FF9.... So many summons (I played FF7 first so I don't say 'Esper' or 'Eidolon') i'm glad the later FF's stream lined them.
You will still have a chance to do the auction again for the esper. Just walk in multiple times. Once you buy the espers, the events will not show up again. In all my playthroughs i've never gotten them on my first try though.
You had a 1/128 chance of that happening. That's like getting a Sword of Kings from a Starman Super at your first try... *remembers how damn long it took to get that sword* THAT'S lucky.
wow the first one had a chance of 1/8 and the second had a chance of 1/16, by getting both at the first try has a chance of 1/(8*16) to happen. that's 1/128. That's REALLY lucky.
It's not that. It's that Intangirs will counter with a single-target Meteo on whoever killed them. And as far as I know, you don't get Magic Points when you're dead.
It is actually even rarer than 1/16. To get both of them first and second it would be 1/8 times 1/7 or 1/8, not sure if they put a dummy item in for the magicite or not. That makes the rarity either 1/64 or 1/56 depending on if there are 7 or 8 items the second time going to the auction, so congrats on the luck bro.
I've done the Rhordox/Snare trick and I've been countered with Metero. Which, kills two of my party member's. Only if I try to Steal though.. Also, I got the Zone esper to pop-up on the first try!! Then Golem on the 3rd, but as I tried to buy it, a screen pops up and tells me that I didn't have enough GP!! I was like 1000 shy because I bought the 10k ring on the second try lol. Of course after selling a couple things, I go back and it didn't pop-up again for another 20 something tries :/
My first try playing I got Fenrir and Lakshmi without knowing there was secret espera there. In fact, the man who said to me about the other four espers appeared much late and I didn't get the espers. How I can. Thanks.
Yes, but the Serpent Trench would have taken us out of there, so we would have had to hike it back there anyway. The round trip time would be the same.
