so thrilled to see you're playing MM8!!!!! i love your MM6 playthrough and have watched it a couple times!!! i would love to see you play MM7 one day, although i understand if you know that game like the back of your hand and it's a bit too boring for you to commit to a full playthrough. either way, i'm so stoked for MM8!!!!!
I played the heck out of this game when it was new, in fact it was actually the first M&M title I finished cuz it was so much fun. Tried to get back into it recently, but it wasnt as much fun any more. PSA: At some point during the game, you can get TWO dragons! I highly recommend you get and keep them. They are superior to everyone else.
I only discovered your channel recently but glad I did, I really enjoyed your MM6 playthrough and it's great to see you tackling another from the series. I didn't play these back in the day (though I did like HOMM3) so it's cool to see what I was missing.
I'd highly recommend playing through the 7th game, if the series is new to you - something I probably won't play on the channel, so you'd be unspoiled!
@@psychemodeThanks, I got it cheap off GOG together with 8, so I'll give it a try this weekend. Was pretty excited when I saw that goblins were playable characters, those little punks were some of my favourite units in HOMM3. Nice to see that both MM7 and MM8 have a variety of playable races, rather than just the typical human/elf/dwarf teamup you see in fantasy stuff.
Spoilers! But...you get a pass, because it's a spoiler I already knew from researching this game before playing it (specifically trying to compare it to 6 & 7....). All things considered, I'll likely forget it by the time I finally make it to that part.
@@psychemode Actually not a spoiler, it was a selling point for the game back then. The box and manual mention it, and describe it thoroughly. Also, you can ride _a_ dragon, but it's just _a character class,_ not a unique secret character or something. You can recruit dragons just like you can do with vampires :)
Awesome, welcome! I'll probably speed through a bunch of stuff with no explanation, since I'm familiar with the series (just not this installment) - hopefully it's still easy to follow!
@@psychemode Well I enjoyed your playthrough of six and I've played a lot of six myself ₙₒₜ ꜀ₒₘₚₗₑₜₑₔ ᵢₜ ᵧₑₜ ₜₕₒ So hopefully the mechanical changes aren't too big to follow.
Oh boy, the last good Might & Magic game ever made. I hope you play the whole thing, I love Might & Magic so much. It was my childhood series, from part 3 to 9, from 1990 to 2000. Loved them all, except maybe 9.^^ BTW: As a vampire dagger grandmaster is pretty good, especially on a high level, since you have a chance to make triple damage. And on a high skill level the chance is pretty high because daggers are also very fast. So a skilled dagger user can be much better than a swordfighter.
without grayface its only 10% chance to triple the damage from the dagger itself, not your damage from stats / heroism etc... Swords are better imo, there are lots of incredible sword artifacts/relics. Like if you take the best dagger and imagine increasing its stats by 20%, that's nowhere near as good as the best swords. And it's less consistent, so more damage lost to overkill as well. Daggers are still better until you can get like 40 or less recovery time with the swords. Not that it matters though, play whatever you want. I just like theorycrafting :)
@@Lightning_Lance Nah, the triple damage is dependant on your skill level. And sure, swords do more damage, but the skill level a vampiel can reach isn't worth it. On skill level 25 or higher, you get a ton of triple damage in. Swords are weapons for other classes, like dark elves. :)
I won't go into why, but dark elves are the best class in terms of game mechanics by a LONG shot, it isn't even close. The game can be beaten by any combination of classes and parties, so go with whatever appeals to you the most on a personal enjoyment level, but game balance is BY FAR in favor of the Dark Elves.
Hearing the slight 'complaints' about interface and controls, I do have to wonder: have you tried the Greyface patch? It does add things like: mouselook, quicksaving, improved sprite and music quality as well as general quality-of-life-stuff. Afaik it does not touch on gameplay 'rules', so the game effectively is the same it used to be.
I tried the patch on MM7 (as well as a few of the crazier/bigger mods) - overall I'll probably just be stubborn and keep the original controls, since those are the ones I play with normally. If I notice myself complaining in excess, I'll consider going with Greyface. Most of these early complaints are just getting used to it again + having a microphone in the wrong spot.
