Myth: The Fallen Lords is the first in a series made by Bungie. Humanity is in the fight of its life against an undead horde known as the Fallen. We find ourselves on the very precipice of doom, at the end of our rope, up Shit Creek without a paddle, all at once. Somehow, we've got to fight back. Then we've got to burn our clothing because I reckon Shit Creek don't wash out, I tell you what.
Myth is famous for its 3d perspective, its tactics, its story, and maybe its gore more than anything else. So, if you want blood, if you want to bathe in blood, if you want to bathe in blood for a week, this is your game. I'll undoubtedly find ways of splattering my troops' entrails throughout the countryside. Enjoy!

1. The game should _not_ be remade, remakes get the spirit of the game wrong most of the time. It just needs to be released on GOG with modern OS support. 2. Deadhold looks like a cartoonish candy store, it has nothing of Myth's atmosphere. Pass.

Gogol, its not. Try it for once and see for yourself. There is no grinding as in TW, just fighting. You have individual troops with names and everyone counts (skirmirshes, not large battles). Same goes for units. Also it is much harder than TW.

the 90's for games was like the 70's for movies, sure good games continue to be made, but in terms of creativity, advancement of the medium, definitive masterpieces of each genre, etc, there's definitely such thing as a special decade; things are more commercialized now, though the graphics and scale of things has advanced a lot.

Good analogy. I agree the 90s were a very special time, especially for PC gaming. Many breakthrough games of all genres and styles, from platformers, point and click adventure games, FPS, etc. One thing that is refreshing right now is we are seeing more indie developers bringing us a similar level of innovation and energy like we saw in the 90s

The worst was in multiplayer matches and you throw one just as you watch it fizzle out. Those little fuckers were sometimes what stood between you winning or losing lol

Just played the first mission earlier today. My tactics and unit placement were both total dogwater, but my dwarf just straight up started chucking bombs like it was going out of style, those undead fools never knew what hit them.

I’ll be 40 years old soon, I played this game the summer it came out and it was one of the best pc games I’ve ever played. They should remake this, it could be amazing. Also, I’ve never seen that country trailer in this game that’s hilarious.

This was the best game ever when it was out. I remember being a full moon rank and wanting to get whatever the highest was, I think it was a type of crown. LOL Good times.

The Comet! There were three crown ranks (a circlet, a pointy crown, and the emperor crown) and then I think there was a half moon, full moon, the sun, an eclipse, and the Comet at the very top, which was given only to one player. There were daggers, swords, shields, and axes in the lower ranks. I only ever got to the axes and shield rank but I liked playing unranked more.

Loved this game. Back in the day my PC struggled to play it and I was shockingly bad at it, but I loved it and had many a battle trying to get my graphics card and PC spec to let me play. Sometimes it would crash and i'd have to go through a massive effort and cycle to get it going again, only for it to keep happening. Gaming in the 90's!!! lol But it's a shame this was never pursued much as a series. Great game, ahead of its time in many ways and it had a standout feel to the game.

My dad bought me Myth as a kid it was my first pc game that he bought to my first computer, I had never heard of it either but whata game it was, I'm thankful for my father's choice, other game he bought me at that time was Morrowind & Heroes of might and magic.

Man, I loved this game back in the day. Wore my Mac out playing it with friends. I had completely forgotten about the opening animation sequence. Thanks for sharing this. Oh, and yeah, the game was hard as fuck. That's the case with most games of our generation (I'm in my mid 40s). Today's games are sooooo easy by comparison. Honestly, I prefer today's games as I just don't have the time I did back then to master them anymore. That said, mastering a game like Myth was truly an accomplishment.

The thing about games today though, they are massively huge. Myth I beat many times over, even on the hardest difficulties. I'm lucky if I finish a game these days lol

I can't take that list seriously when MHW is on it to be fair. Also a couple of examples of difficult modern games doesn't change the main point that 99% of releases are baby-town frolics. That said, there's a big difference in design, older games generally were more difficult because they were shorter affairs, making them harder to beat extended the life of the game, most apparent of course with old platformers and shooters, a few levels but so difficult you could spend weeks doing them. Now you have big open worlds, endgame explorations, new game+ modes etc to extend the game without the need to stonewall people. ARPGs being a good example, your initial run will generally be a cakewalk, then you unlock difficulty modes that give dedicated players something to stick around for, while not leaving casual players feeling cheated.

This and Myth II were some of my favorite games as a kid. I can't think of anything similar to this besides Total War which is very different. BTW there are some community made patches for these games and a community server where a tiny community of hardcore players still play multiplayer.

this was my favorite game for a long time. the bold thing aobut the game was that you could play it on any platform at the time. They commited to releasing all version on the same day.

This game was so much fun to play on-line, especially the large battles where one person was the "general", and could give control of units to "commanders". Such a great game back in the day.

This was one of the first games that I ever played.The games that introduced me to the world of PC video games, and video games overall for that matter were Marathon, Starcraft, Warcraft 2, Myst and Myth.These were all masterpieces of their genres.It is sad to see what video games turned to be and what they are now.In the old days it was about creating masterpieces that people were willing to buy not iterating the same game every year.I can only wish that games like Myth would arise once again.

I remember playing this game years ago with a challenge that NO ONE dies the whole game. I think I managed to accomplish it or maybe someone died in the last mission because that was a slaughter. GREAT game.

I try-harded this game and the sequel, trying to flawless finish each level. The way you could pause and micromanage units was revolutionary. This was my real first online game along with Diablo. Then Warcraft!

This was one of the best games. The tone/mood of the game, the desperation of humanity, the story telling, were fantastic! I hope some day someone picks up the reigns of this franchise and modernizes/recreates the original and expands. But anyway... I couldn't stop laughing. The reviewer made my day (I'm pretty sure this happened the last time I watched this review years ago but had since forgotten). His setup of his troops on the first level was good, and then all hell broke loose. Hilarity ensued. Awesome! Anyone who had played this game would understand. Thanks for the laugh, again.

I watched through all of Myth 2 let's play and it was great. It was the first let's play I've ever watched in it's entirety. Was trying to watch some other people's channels, but they were annoying, so I'm back to watch your lets play of Myth: Fallen Lords! Makes me want to play so bad!

Ive watched your whole series of Myth 1 videos and you did a great job, you made my family laugh alot. I bought this years ago a week after it came out and the computer I had could only run minimum requirements. I could not get past that level were you had to drop the severed head into a big hole because the movement was all stop starty from my poor computer struggling. Always wondered what happened and now I know because of you! Hope you did Myth 2. Good job!!!!

The dwarf voice actor does such an awesome job. "Move here move there!" lmao The voice acting in this game is sooo good. Even the random unit chatter is really good like if an archer accidentally shoots another archer cus they're too close together.

I ended up finding Glen Cook because of this game. I was enthralled with the way the soldier's journal/chronicles moved the story and gave it great atmosphere and wanted more. Glen Cook's low fantasy military series, The Black Company absolutely scratched that itch. Anyone who loves this game should definitely give it a read. You will clearly see how the developers were influenced by Glen Cook's writing.

For the longest time I’ve tried to remember the name of this game. I’m pretty sure I played it on PlayStation and remember it being extremely hard. Finally saw the cover somewhere and was able to recognize it. I remember the guy saying “casualty” a lot!

Yeah, I'm not aware of any games prior to Myth that put all of those things together so well. As much as I liked Warcraft and C&C for their gameplay, Myth added an excellent and unconventional plot to the mix.

So many good memories with this and the sequel. I don't think the 3rd was as good cause they changed the graphic style. I wish they'd bring this back. The music, the design, the voice over/narrator, just everything about this was amazing. I also played online and was a top ranked player. You had different crowns and such you could get. The very, very top ones had like a moon or sun.

Awesome game. Great narrative, voiceovers, etc. Epic game, one of the best in its genre. Helped create this genre of RTS games. I remember when this first came out.

That's actually been my biggest challenge with Myth. Fraps will only record 3D sources, so it won't record the game menu. I've been using Bandicam and it's worked very well for my Myth 1 recordings, but there are issues with Myth 2. I've heard good things about Dxtory as well, so you may want to try working with that.

Played this game when it first came out on my Win95 Compaq Presario! I loved playing multiplayer. That magic melee attack from far away exploit was funny.

It was made for both Mac and PC, and believe it or not, this doesn't require any kind of emulation even on my Windows 7 machine. There is a patch that you have to download from a site called Project Magma to get it compatible with Win7, but it's pretty easy to work with.
