Just to note, Oath of Moment's entry on the Combat Patrol Data Sheets only permits you to re-roll the Attack rolss, not the rolls to wound.

Pretty sure I saw this when it was accidentally released yesterday 😂 It's amazing and tbh it seems tenth if balanced for combat patrol up to about 1500ish points. So much smaller "beer and pretzel" games seem to be the goal of this edition and thank God for it.

The only thing that I don't love about the combat patrols is how jumbled some of the units are when it comes to weapon options. It feels weird when my Havocs have four different heavy weapons instead of something like two of one gun and two of another or the mix of chainswords and boltguns in units like the Primaris Crusader squad. That said, I think it is necessary to some degree to balance the boxes and I'm still looking forward to playing a bunch of games once I get some extra models put together to make my existing units playable!

Damn the nids look far more scarier in this game mode, compared to normal incursion. Also it saddens me that they didn't give you a full 1k pts for the leviathan box for nids, they should've given an extra squad of termagaunts, 5 barbgaunts, and 1 more ripper swarm. The points end up being perfectly even with the extra pts, but with what you actually get it's 170pts off.

@19:25 Doesn't the terminator still put his attacks into the VRLeaper unit even though the B2B Leaper was removed? I was looking at the Make Attacks portion of the Fight Phase rules. Context: I am asking because I want to make sure I have it right.

Thanks for the Batrep, but the Oath of the Moment was a major oversight so in my eyes Tyranids won that one. Reading the Data Sheet explains the Data Sheet.

I’m gonna call a flag on that one; this is more a case of bad rule authoring than player error. In any case where a rule has the same name a player should expect it’s operation to be the same. Gene wrought resilience for instance is identical to the core rules. It’s fine that it’s stripped back, but in that case it should be called something else and the rules that refer to it (such as fury of the first) updated to reflect that. :) You shouldn’t have to look up cross system terms to check for differences.

Hey guys I couldn't get past the first set of attacks, Combat Patrol has different indexes to the regular game and Oath of Moment only let's you reroll Hits, not wounds.

Finally figured out that the Combat Patrol missions and details section from the Leviathan book is NOT in the free core rules download.... Why?? I'll still have to buy the book. Guess i just answered my question. Kinda disappointing to discover after the 'free rules' messaging...

You only get Cover now when there’s a negative modifier involved, so AP zero guns it doesn’t come into play!

Nice to see that space marines are still completely broken. Also unless it's different in combat patrol barbgaunts give out -2 move/charge not battleshock.

@@casualgaming2351 Not to mention he won due to rerolling wounds with Oath of Moment. Without that the Tyranid player would have won. I think these kind of mistakes will be common since they decided to make some abilities work differently in CP and regular games. This game also highlights that some matchups will force a player to just outlive their opponent as they won't be able to deal with the mega unit (terminator unit in this case). I don't see it being balanced and some matchups will just be boring if not unplayable.

A lot of games I see of 40k seem melee heavy. Are there missions for combat patrol or modes of play that lend themselves to not have the games largely be melee pile ins?

Great to see this finally on the table. I really enjoy this new way of playing and have to admit, I have been waiting for this Lets Play exclusively. I see Pros and Cons from a more seasoned gamer perspective. Pro: So easy, straightforward. Not interested in big 40k but still love the settings, models, themes and this is truly the beer and pretzels way to actually get my space man dollies on the table and rolling some dice. Con: Its limited to just the box. For eg, I bought the Astra Militarum CP box, but stupidly I also bought a Castellan. I have no use or motivation to paint my Castellan now because I cant use him in this format. Obviously there is scope to be more creative, do interesting things and try to find exciting ways to kitbash a Combat Patrol together from a not-Combat-Patrol but thats for later down the line. It will be interesting to see if GW can find a way to expand this way of playing to include a method of building a Combat Patrol "list", and find a way to sub in other units, characters etc.

The Castellan would make a really cool mission objective or base of operations piece. That’s how I’m planning to use larger vehicles in Combat Patrol. Very often fuel and munitions relegate them to fancy cover in war and that will give me an excuse to put them on the table in Combat Patrol I think. :)

Interesting, lots of dice being rolled - they really need to think about removing the to wound rolls - I mean, I hit you already, lets see if your armour saved you, no need for the wound roll on top! Sorry, just my little bugbear. I don't think this is for me but it does look like a good way of getting new people into the game so that's cool - thanks for showing it off.

You know it's really great that you guys know the rules and you have the codexes and all... But you might slow down on how fast you're talking because I feel like I'm listening to two auctioneers play a complex board game that has a lot of distinctive rules I've had to watch three different segments in this twice just to understand what you you are saying.

What points value (approximately) does Combat Patrol end up being? I think "preconstructed" in a mass wargame is not a good idea and would prefer to see rules for 500 or 750 forces.

It ends up being about 500pts, we found the Genestealer cult and Custodes to be on the high end between 6-700. There’s other balancing factors that seem to be in play and so far the games seem relatively even!

Man as someone who played from RT to the start of 7th nothing about this video makes me think about playing again. So you just take weird Terminators and that's an I Win button because nothing can kill them and they just re-roll everything and if the re-roll doesn't work keep re-rolling until it works. Yeah, fun times.

This is 100% not the video to understand and play 10th guy lol. Also he never rerolled more than once. If you pay attention, you'd notice he doesn't have enough dice to make rolls on one go. Now to your credit, he rolled reroll to wound when in Combat Patrol you only get re-roll to hit. It's an easy miss given in 10th, Oath of Moment given RR to hit and wound. Also terminators can die..reduce their save enough with AP and they buckle. Or bugbite them to death. The game was incredibly close. Marines won by 1 point, and if Nids didn't simply get to respawn their units on a wim it'd have been an easy sweep. It's far more balanced than you'd think, especially when you have no idea what's going on. I suggest watching one of the many how to play 10th edition videos, or watch GWs Combat Patrol Battle Report.
