After the finale of Final Fantathon, I knew the next game we needed to Let's Play was Xenogears, the game that could have been the next Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger, but turned into it's own legendary experience that would eventually lead to the Xenosaga series.

Trivia: Citan invokes a lot of Thomas Hobbes' philosophy in his "breaking speech" to Fei. Hobbes is the author of Leviathan, a 17th century essay about how human beings are naturally selfish, brutish and violent and need some form of absolute government to keep them in line, whether it be monarch or assembly. Hobbes explains how identity is tied to status and one's place in the world; if everyone is given equal importance, then (in theory at least) there's no need for them to feel a sense of personal individuality. Hobbes is also famous in the world of mathematics for having unsuccessfully tried to square the circle many times. His name is the inspiration for the tiger Hobbes in Calvin & Hobbes.

I really liked Citan as a kid but as an adult i feel he is incredibly overloaded. By age 28 he's literally a spy+doctor+engineer+martial artist+swordsman and if i remember outside having his limiter removed at the emperor request he's just a normal 3rd class solarian at first. They could easily had made 2 characters with him (and they pretty much end up doing that in Xenosaga).

39:30 it feels like omegasol should be as high as 500 or they should make it usable on save point only (just like the survival tent). But then in xenoblade, they just remove healing out of battle completely. Maybe they have something toward resource management. Not sure how I feel about the comment toward Elly's parent, but I'll wait until the very end first.

It wasn't laziness, it was a time issue. The release date was coming up and square wouldn't give them any more time to finish the game and told them to just end it after the events in solaris and if it did well enough then they could make a part 2 and finish the story. With no guarantee of a part 2 Takahashi and his team decided to try and finish the story any way they could. That lead to the way disk 2 turned out.
