Wizard of Oz is a really prolific bloomer year after year. Nice light pink ball type. That and Joey Nicky is couple of good ones. Love them all I think!!
Hi Danielle! That is Salvia Mystic Spires. I have been a greenhouse and garden center manager for 30 years. I love it and planted a dozen in my mixed beds. What a beauty! Sometimes my other annual salvia (Victoria Blue) comes back, so I'm leaving it in to see if it makes a curtain call.
i grew two anemone dahlias last year that both had very skinny stems, and the stems went all bendy too ...not fussed..regrowing them this year to see if they do better ( I am a novice tho ) but if not then won't grow them again. Those dahlias u picked ..so gorgeous . Someone on GA just said her Cornel Brons survived the frost perfectly okay !
My Anemone Lifestyle were amazing performers in the garden. Great stem strength, but not overly thick. Mine were much larger than the ones you showed and the colors gave it an illuminated appearance. Stems only lasted 4-6 days in the vase for me.
I love your autumn garden, Danielle! Pretty sure that variety is Salvia farinacea(Victoria). It amazes me every time I sow these beauties that just one little tiny seed could flourish into something so glorious. Looking forward to the dried flower Christmas tree this year!
Wow, what a beautiful bunch of awesomeness, and you weren't even done yet! That blue salvia is the prettiest I've ever seen - hope someone recognized the variety.
We've had many nights in the 30's in mid-Michigan. I was happy that my Flamingo Feather Celosia survived those nights. I am definitely growing them next year--but in 2 colors.
I also got cucumber beetles on my seed dahlias last year, but they didn't do too much damage if you catch them early enough. Love Myrtle's Folly, what beautiful form and color. Glad you got such a wonderful collection of blooms before the frost. What a great find with the bumblebee with a young one! Always love to see Grace, she is just so cute.
Your garden is such an inspiration, Danielle. No matter the time of year, it always looks beautiful. I think the salvia might be Salvia Farinacea 'Victoria Blue'. I have quite a lot of it in my garden.
Thank you for the date on this video. It is very helpful to know the date when you are talking about planting and harvesting. I really enjoy your videos.
Thanks for the inspiration. I am going to try drying more of my flowers. I did cut some of my dahlias when the low was forecast to be 33 but fortunately we didn't actually get a frost. Now the weather is unseasonably warm so the garden will continue to bloom for a bit longer.
It's always a joy when I get a chance to enjoy your videos! Thank you for taking the time to share your beautiful garden with us, and always including Grace and Rocky as well! I also appreciate that you make sure we know the names of plants we might not be familiar with! I like it especially when you show the names on your screen so that we can be sure we heard right what they are. You are a blessing in my day!
What a harvest! Can’t believe you haven’t had a frost yet in your area! Crossing my fingers you get through the cold night ok so you’ll have a longer time with your blooms!
Hi Danielle…thanks again for all you share, it really helps me enjoy and improve my own home garden🪴 I checked through your videos looking for “how you store and organize your seeds” but couldn’t find anything. If there is a video or posting would you direct me to it please? I find I’m buying more and more seeds and don’t have a clue how best to organize them. Thanks again❣️
I grew Lifestyle this year and the stems are thin, but it has been a reliable bloomer for the past several months here in Oregon. Also, you have convinced me to grow Cornell next year. It's not usually my color, but will be a cheerful addition to the bouquets that I donate. Thank you for all the great videos!
The color of that salvia makes me want to say "Blue Victoria" salvia aka mealy cup sage but of course I'm not sure. Blue Victoria salvia is absolutely gorgeous and ALL the pollinators love it. I highly recommend it! (It's annual for most zones) thanks for sharing your gardens and your knowledge, enjoy your videos.
Well you have changed your tune on Myrtles folly ....."for some reason I just don't like it, what do you think". It is nice to see the transition, it teaches us to give things a chance. Myrtles folly is a bit loud.
Salvia longispicata x farinacea: Indigo Spires 1979 (big rangy like longispicata) Mystic Spires. 2006 ( the best of both parents) Playin the Blues ( a sterile Indigo Spires) Mysty. 2018. (a dwarf Mystic Spires)
Hi, I think it's a Victory Blue salvia. I saw the plants at a local garden center last year and fell in love with them. I found the seeds at Botanical interests and grew them from seed this year. I had good germination and they have been flowering like crazy. I am drying the flower stalks and they seem to retain their color well.
I think the salvia is “blue victory”. I grew it from seed this year and got the seeds from botanical interests. I grew the lifestyle dahlia this year too. Same experience. However, it was one of my most prolific bloomers and the tuber clump was massive! (zone 4b Minnesota 😊)
Such a beautiful and enjoyable video! It’s fun (and kind of sad) to bring in that final harvest! Also, it’s been almost all about drying flowers for me this season so it’s fun to see what you’re drying. I dried that same salvia but I’m not sure of the name either? And of course Grace is adorable!
Thank you for sharing, Danielle. I always enjoy your videos so much. I was wondering if you've ever collected seeds from your gomphrena? I have fireworks gomphrena and am not sure how to go about collecting the seeds or if there even are any seeds?
I'm all too familiar with the cuc beetle. In 20 years of gardening, I've never seen so many. I used the organza bags but they crawled up the closure whole. Now that I have pulled the dahlias, I have them all over the remaining roses. Maybe I will skip flower planting next year, I don't know what else to do. 🤷😩
What a beautiful harvest! We haven't had a killing frost yet (NJ 6b), but ready to cut back the annuals that are still hanging in there. The Celosia looks great and will start cutting back to dry. Itching to dig up the dahlias...ugh!
I am a bit confused. Do you take ALL the leaves off dahlia stems? Isn't mahogany splendor going to look wilted? Looking forward to seeing how you put that gomphrena in Christmas tree. Thank you for your informative videos.
Hi Sandra! If you dip mahogany splendor hibiscus into boiling water for 10 seconds and then place into cool water it will not wilt. Vase life is two weeks. I hope that helps!
That salvia is so very blue!! I would dearly love to grow one like that! I want to put in a small hedge of salvias in my cottage garden. Please share what variety it is when you find out, please.
I have one just like it. I think it's Mystic Spires. Here in zone 10, it's a perennial, so it has the time to get really big (mine is 4'x4'). The bees love it.
I remember seeing in one of your videos where you were trying to overwinter your snapdragons. Have you had any luck with this or should I just pull them and replant next year?
@@health.bites.5615 mine were a mix of yellow, red & orange singles. I cannot remember where I got the seeds but if you see some you like, grab them! They have bloomed spring through summer and pollinators love them.
I'm finding it's HARD to find dahlia seeds! So far, I've ordered from Swallowtail Seeds--one variety is called Double Extreme (18-24 in tall with 4-inch blooms) and a mix of Giant Hybrids that contain a variety of singles, semi-doubles, and doubles. I also bought a couple of tubers from Longfield Gardens. I'm going to try again to store them. I'm a zinnia lover, but I want to add some dahlias into my mixed borders too.
