Great video, really appreciate you going through the entire process with great detail/commentary for switch replacement. I had the dreaded double click issue after 2 years, and replaced them with black Kailh GM 8.0 switches. Even though the camera fell, it made it all the more interesting with the cut scenes.

I had written instructions up on my monitor and I was ready to start taking my mouse apart; but, I am so glad I checked youtube right before doing so, 'cause this was so helpful. Being able to see more of the mouse than just a few pictures, as well as your verbal instructions and advice, were great resources. It took me longer than I expected to remove the switches because by the time I had melted the 3 solder points the first would have solidified again; the wick looked really helpful, I really should pick a spool up. Thanks for the video.

Excellent video. I didn't have replacement switch but instead I opened it up from your instructions of disassembly and simply cleaned the internals and switches with isopropyl alcohol. Works perfect like new again. Thanks for sharing the video, appreciated.

Nice detailed video, I had a different issue but it helped me a lot to see how you disassembled the mouse. Thanks for making this video :)

This was an excellent tutorial/video from start to finish that I easily followed and got my main click buttons replaced within 2 hours of casually doing it. Thanks for taking the time to curate this and look forward to more. Also I dig the iFixit & parts keeper kits.

Great video! My G502 Lightspeed started doing the double click after 4 years of heavy daily use. Will absolutely be replacing the switches on it, tho kind of sucks how many screws there are! Logitech are notorious for problematic input devices and their mindset is definitely "just buy a new one". My G613 keyboard started doing the double type thing around the same time as the mouse issue so will fix that when time permits. Also, only real men use heavy mice! ;)

I followed it all the way through but now my scroll wheel is not registering, it registers the click but not the rotation of the wheel. Where do you think I messed up at?

I was just going to post the same comment. I took my mouse apart again and see no damage to the IR LED or the sensor. I see no shorts or burns. Can anyone instruct me how to test these components with a multimeter? I haven't been able to find anything online about it.

great video. btw you lost a screw (it was missing and never removed in your video), its insert is somewhere on the top right of the area you were showing that had the 8 screws you counted towards the end.

Excellent breakdown, thank you. I don't have any soldering equipment, so might actually be cheaper for me to buy the new mouse, I hear the new G502 Z Plus have optical switches which don't have the double clicking issue... Maybe the easier way to go for me as much as I'd like to reduce waste and replace the switches on my G502 Hero :(

I once stripped the metal parts of the ribbon cable and destroyed them after finishing every micro switch soldering :( I was so glad once I realised it wasn't destroyed that bad and only had to remove the metal parts that is touching other metal parts inside ribbon cable. These ribbon cables are so freaking hard to insert xd

My mouse is working fine again, but I have a issue that randomly appears. some times my left mouse button registers it being pressed down at random and keeps giving off a signal of being pressed. It only disappears if I click it like 3-5 times. Any idea what could be causing this? (I'm using the exact same switch as the original)

Also my battery started to drain really fast like 20 % in 10 min

Mine just started to do the double click thing couple months ago about June or July. was gonna do an RMA but when i looked at my receipt I bought the mouse in March of 2020. Way past the manufacturer warrenty date. I ended up buying a Corsair Dark Core RGB pro se to replace it yesterday. Might try this repair fix though just for the heck of it.

It was such a pain, on top of that a screw in each left and right click buttons got stuck and I spent the entire afternoon messing around and hammering them with screwdrivers til they came off 😭

Also just a question. How many switches do you recon is needed. If I need to replace just the leftclick?

Can you mod the battery capacity and replace it with a larger capacity one? Can you fit it in the case? Is enough space to put like double or triple capacity battery?
@MattPassarelli
@MattPassarelli 10 месяцев назад
I mean it’s always possible. Whether or not you can find a battery with a bigger capacity that still fits, I have no idea. I’ve never looked, nor really considered it. I have no issues with its battery life, so the thought never occurred to me. Just open it up, measure the space you have and find a battery that would fit. You’d probably need to splice the proper connector onto the new battery though too.

Man this is a lot of work to replace one faulty switch. You’d think there’d be an easier way to get to the switches without having to disassemble the entire mouse…
@MattPassarelli
@MattPassarelli Год назад
Yeah it’s wild right? While this is a small device, things really need to be easier to repair. The solution shouldn’t she’s be, “buy a new one.”
@Not_Ciel
@Not_Ciel Год назад
@@MattPassarelli yeah I agree haha. You’d think with such an expensive mouse they’d make it easier to get to the buttons. I don’t want to spend $100 on a new mouse because a single part broke 🥲

That's funny. The listing must've changed from the seller. I've added some new links to different listings on Amazon that should work as well. There's an OMRON one in there now as well. Those are the OEM switches that Logitech uses (or used to. I know they swapped suppliers at some point), if you want an OEM replacement!

Please don't say "repair" when you just replace the switch. I want to actually repair them. How do you open them
@MattPassarelli
@MattPassarelli Год назад
Valid criticism of the title; I'll change it. But why do you want to *open* the switches? They are so small that the effort of opening them and get them back together in one working piece may not be worth the few dollars it costs for a small bag of them.
@fqdn
@fqdn Год назад
@@MattPassarelliThey probably don’t have a soldering iron. I’d argue it’s a repair of the mouse by replacing defective switches.
@fqdn
@fqdn Год назад
I don’t know if it works with this type of switches, but spraying some deoxidizing stuff into the switch might work. I “repaired” a laptop power button using Ballistol weapon/universal oil, but there are other products like Deoxit, WD-40 and many more specific for deoxidizing. But again, that’s an entirely different switch assembly, these mouse switches from the outside look less accessible to the oil.
