He posted this on my 22nd birthday, the day of me getting the same bike and coincidentally watched this video afterwards, but I wholeheartedly agree, overall amazing video that deserves more praise. 🙌
Thank you man, that really means a lot. I appreciate the time you took to watch this video and leave this comment. Hope you're doing well brotha. Enjoy the ride!
@@EnjoytheRideTV What kind of camera are you using? And how did you get it to rotate? Some camera angles were cool while others made me a little dizzy. Lol
I totally agree and that's why maybe he put himselfe in a position where he can achive anything and everything but he didn't in the short therm like many myselfe included and here we go depress all the time trying so hard to figure it out how the hell to be rich or have succes with girls, have You're own business and so on, well i'm glad that i found this vid hope the Best for You keep it up
The monologue about meditation and positivity earned my subscription. Truly inspiring stuff. Can't wait to have enough money to afford a motorcycle of my own.
Thanks man! Just trying to do my part in making this world a little bit better place to live, even if it is with a motorcycle review video haha. Keep saving! You'll get there one day and it'll all be worth it.
I've been wanting a motorcycle for a while now. And I'm finally in a position where I can afford one. And I couldn't take my eyes of this bike. I feel it might be the one.
@@momomomo1838 I did a safety course like 7 years ago so I have my license but never got a bike. I'm thinking about using that unemployment money to buy one.
Motorists distracted by cell phones is the new normal. As riders, we just have to accept it. My advise is to wear a high viz yellow/green jacket. You'll practically glow like you're radioactive on sunny days and drivers will definitely see you. It may not be your taste in fashion, but if it keeps you safe, it's worth it. Also, your helmet mic sounds fantastic.
Thanks for the review my friend. Looks like this will be my first bike. Also, thank you again for talking briefly about overcoming and dealing with depression and anxiety, Being a veteran and just a male human lol, I can definitely relate and I appreciate your courage in sharing that. Stay well bro, look forward to more videos!
I've been eyeing this bike for well over a year, switching from bike to bike thinking about which one I should get, and the rebel was never off my mind. Its such a nice looking bike and I think that I drove my parents crazy talking about it. This is such an amazing video. And I love how you address everything clearly and not just talk about it once and its done. Thanks man you da boss😎
I'm 53 I have a rebel myself being PRESENT is a fact it helps me to work the brain to stay active as far as shifting gears to watching traffic to and staying alert. Riding is so soothing to the soul.
I watched this strictly for a motorcycle review, but the best thing I got out of this is hearing you’re doing good. Glad the meditation is working for you man✌️
Good review man! I put about 14,000 miles on a 2017 rebel 500 before I sold it. I thought about making a video like this but never got around to it. About the bike, I couldn't agree more. Great bike to learn on and it's one that you could keep forever. I miss that bike
Great video. Love how you incorporated the speeds and gears with a freeway review also. Honestly watched a lot of videos and your video just made my decision. Thanks bro hope you keep doing content.
I want to say Thank You... considering in taking a motorcycle safety and training course this year and purchasing a motorcycle soon after. Your review was not only and honest review about Honda’s 2019 Rebel 500 ABS, but I loved what you did by being a bit more existential in mind mentality and what riding has done for you. Great job on the camera work, best of everything to you.
Thank you for your comments on depression. It affects many people...really. Your response to it is commendable! You are out there, on the open road, tasting the air and off the bloody computer. Human beings need to be outside. We need to be moving around and having fun, in our free time...much like a child. Your thoughts on being totally engaged while riding are priceless. I never thought of a motorcycle being an anti-depressant, but it is, as you just described. Brilliant! Keep working your job too, my friend, with a positive attitude, and good things will come your way. Life is a long journey, and I can remember making $3 an hour way back in the day...but I always had bigger plans and dreams, and it's turned out well for me, with plenty of patience. Good luck to you. I can see you writing a book on depression and motorcycling. You have touched a chord there...
about being present on a bike SO TRUE! I'm a new rider myself and I have a rebel 500 which I also use for commute to work and you're very alert in your whole body while riding versus driving a car.
Cool video man. I saw your post in the Rebel 300/500 group. I love my Rebel 500, it's very punchy in first gear. Makes it feel more powerful than it is. Waiting on a sissy bar/luggage rack and I've gotten a sissy bar back pack from Viking Bags. Great if you want something that you can quickly toss on and also wear.
In 1977 I just a brand new 78 Honda hawk 400... I love that bike.. it was the perfect starter plenty of power and I even took it on the highway no problem.. at the time my dad owned a Suzuki 500 2-stroke twin.. we took a long day ride up New York State got back home around dark.. some of the best memories riding with my dad ❤️
I love when guys talk about mental health and meditating. Very relaxing. Thanks for the vid! I almost picked up a rebel but I ended up with the CB500F, I still love that cruiser look and the up right sitting position.... So nice.
Hello, I just wanted to let you know I trully enjoyed your review of the 2019 Honda Rebel. I personally have driven a 2008 Honda Rebel 250 as my daily driver for over 10 years. I reallly loved your description of riding as "form of moving meditation" and how it forces you to be present while riding. I have always described riding as something that very much lets you know you are still alive as you feel your heart beating with each power down shift to avoid the dumb ass on the phone. While cruzing down the road on a motorcycle all your senses are engaged and fully present. This is natures way of keeping you alive while riding the thin line between total enlightenment or tragic road rash. Best of luck to you and your loved ones as we all are cruzing through life just hoping to find our own form of personal moving meditation that changes out lives forever.
thanks marcus! a thought that came into my mind while riding yesterday is that when you're riding, it's like everything and nothing matters at the same time - the machine is an extension of your body that you're operating in a flow state, yet there's nothing separating or protecting you from the elements except your gear. high stakes and an empty mind.
Great video, brother. Great looking bike, and that bit at the end about meditation, being present, and surrounding yourself with positive people was an unexpected boost of inspiration. Thank you
This is an amazing video on so many levels. The fact is, motorcycling in its most pure form is a spiritual event. When you spoke of meditation, it fit right in with the motorcycling experience. This is a great bike for beginners but advanced riders too because of the benefits of a good handling, light and responsive machine. You're awesome!! Thanks for a great video experience!
Have the 2019 myself. Agree with everything you’ve said and loving it as my first bike. It’s gotten me through a storm at night comfortably because it’s so easy to ride. Need to get myself a screen and led lights,
Nice vid. I'm actually an old biker who fancies 2 wheels again. What you said at the end about being in the present was spot on. I used to love that buzz of high focus. I'd ride without a thought in my head, just absorbed in the now. I was a bike messenger back in the 80s, riding through London as fast as I could get away with. I'd often do 70 and more along the Embankment. (By the Thames) LOL, I'd get locked up these days. Envy your weather, perfect for bikes I'd say. Stay lucky and positive.
I have a gloss black rebel 500 with a metal headlight grill, blacked out forks, forkboots, tbr exhaust, different lights and different mirrors. Love it. Never getting rid of it.
I like your philosophical bent on this. Something that I'd like to share as my own experience on two & four wheels. I'm not currently riding...looking to get another bike again, though. Miss it too much. But, driving a standard car is like watching tv. You're in a room, and what's going on around is just what's in that pane of glass. A convertible feels like going to the movies, or perhaps a better analogy is live theater. It's wider, broader, more expansive and involves more of the senses. I used to have a miata, and I felt like i was in the front row on Broadway! Really see more about the stage, the scenery the actors, their expressions etc. Riding a motorcycle is like moving up on stage. Now, you're part of the scene, part of the action. You're not watching the show, you are part of the plot. A very different feel and experience. I hope those dark days are a long distant memory for you. Likewise, I've been through some dark times. Hope you continue to get peace and comfort from all the right places. Hope, comfort, peace, restoration and a bunch of other things are out there. My journey has led me to some very specific answers. [not here to preach, but, I take the accusation of "Jesus freak" as a compliment.] :-) Anyway, glad I stumbled across your video - and, hope to meet you "on stage" one of these days. Ride safe! Keep the shiny bits pointing up!
Be present. That's why we all love riding a bike. The connection to the environment actually saved a lot of people like us. We thought that we could never connect with the environment again, until we learn to be present on the bike.
I ride Honda Rebel 2018, riding a bike is truly some sort of teraphy for me. It feels so relaxing yet make me focus at the same time. ease my mind from some troubling thoughts.
Hearing you talk about your struggles was incredibly relatable. I used to ride in India and it was always so therapeutic, sensory and visceral. It's been a lot of years since then, I'm now in Canada, feeling like I'd never have a career after 6 years of study. I haven't wanted to get a car, and sort of just accepted the overcrowded public transport as my way of life. But perhaps my life isn't really moving, because I'm not really moving. Riding and becoming independent again would change a lot. I havn't seen a better review on this bike, you've totally sold me on this bike (and some of the accessories), I'd going to visit a showroom to test one out :) ! I love that it's got an upright stance on a cruiser! The ones that have the legs stretched out to the front makes me feel less in control during sharp turns.
Thank you for the review and thank you for the perspective. I was already excited about saving up for the Rebel 500 as my first motorcycle, but now I’m even more so after watching this. Been trying to find good therapeutic hobbies(other than actual therapy lol) to grow as a person, and your talk at the end really resonated w me. Keep up the good work, dude✨✨👏
Excellent review. . . and the camera work is great, unlike what I'm accustomed to even with well established cycle reviewers. . . I'm a new subscriber!
I just watched this video I like what you're saying I was hoping for more and just realized that was your last video.....so sad. I hope you're ok and still riding.
I liked your review, I also own a rebel 500, just had its 12,000 km service, had the bike 7 Month, love it. Most of my riding is one and a half hour commutes on the freeway to work. Does it rain or shine, its an amazing machine
Couldn't agree more brotha. The world needs more self-awareness and less knee-jerk reactions. Things in the first world have gotten so easy and convenient that many seem to be addicted to distraction and low-quality stimuli. Meditation can be difficult at times, but I find that it brings me a greater appreciation for what is in my control.
Ayye, a fellow bay area rider. I feel you about the depression part, it's a constant up and hill battle, and even with motorcycle riding helping me clear my mind. Sometimes it is hard to get out and go for a ride since you want to be 100% there to focus on your surroundings. Anyways, nice review man. Ride safe out there, and maybe I'll pass you on the road one of these days.
great video ! Love the chat at the end about depression. not always easy to speak about but music and Riding are what keep ME SANE> (and I'm only learnin ridin haha) Is that Mountain View over by Shoreline ???
I'm pretty upset this is the last video you made so far. I've had almost a virtually identical experience to you (my bike was a Shadow 750 though :P) and it was really nice to hear your story. Well, even if you're done making videos stay safe out there buddy.
@@EnjoytheRideTV I'm happy seeing whatever you're happy making, man. Content is always best when it comes from the heart. I imagine even if you just rode around chatting about random stuff it'd be pretty good.
Good video. The very low first gear, and the busy-ness at higher speeds can both be addressed by adding a couple of teeth to the rear sprocket. I heard of this solution while researching the CB500X. Apparently it works quite well. If you plan on a longer road trip, I think it would make a big difference. BTW, the motor is coming alive rather than straining - it has Honda's racing technology built into it, and it'll run forever at high RPM's. You didn't mention how you liked the seat. I guess you like it bc everybody complains about the stock seat, and you weren't complaining. Meditation is so important for us to do, and there is a direct connection between meditation, happiness, and motorcycle riding in that they both bring you into the present moment where life, reality, and joy all actually take place. There is a saying that you don't ever see motorcycles parked outside of therapists offices. I know that however I am feeling at the beginning of a ride, I feel endorphin rushes during the ride, and I feel great by the end of the ride. Cheers!
@@ss_whole yes, you're quite right. the low end acceleration will suffer, but i've heard that it's all but unnoticeable, whereas you really notice it on the highway. probably more important for the CBX 500 than with the rebel, but still it expands the bike's utility imo. keep up the good work!
Got myself one of these, no customization yet, but I agree so much fun. gone riding with my brother and a few others always have fun, no matter how long of a ride I'm doing i throughly enjoy myself
Just about to take my leep into the biking world. Been watching countless vlog/reviewers and i'm going to sub. Nice audio and camera work, a lot of effort goes into that.
The Honda CB500F naked will solve most of the highway, comfort, touring and sporting issues you may have with the Rebel, at the same price. Then again, nakeds are not known for style, at all.
I remember when a 350 or 500cc bike was plenty fast for normal riding. Now it seems that people are seeing them as a beginner bike. You can easily get enough speed on a 500cc bike and ride on the freeway. It's a Honda and is made to rev and the engine won't blow up because it's running faster. It's fun to ride and it's fast enough to get you in trouble too!
Changing to an LED bulb for the headlight makes a world of difference in the morning/dark. The 500 has been my first motorcycle and after a month I'm already wanting something bigger. I will definitely test ride a few different ones before making my next purchase, but I'll keep enjoying the Rebel until that time comes.
I'm a "noob" (just got my license) and I've been to the dealer's shop today and the first thing I noticed is that this is such a small bike. I mean, really small. Looks like a toy to me. And too light. Being 1.80 m height, 100 kg "gravity", my legs are completely bent and both feet firmly on the floor (seat too low). Owner's wife in the shop whispered into my ear: "This is more a bike for girls. Get a Vulcan S." On the other hand, here in EU it's too expensive (around 8K EUR, VAT included). Not really a "bang for buck". Your review is excellent (lacking durability and maintenance remarks, though) but one has to try it him(her?)self.
very nice review. in a few months i get my new model honda rebel 500 in blue methalic which looks great. and has a lot of new things . i guess this will be my second and last motorcycle until i die ..i come from a 125cc which i drove 3 years. and this rebel has enough power for me and a look that i will always love. take care! enjoy the ride!
Serious DanDan vibes 😊. Nice video, I'm super jealous of your roads/traffic. Nowhere near me are there streets that empty, gotta ride a good hour out of the city for that. Any chance of some how to videos with the Rebel 500? I'm a total bike noob and don't know anyone with a bike even to offer advice.
I'm a DanDan fan myself! Guess it's kind of rubbed off on me haha. What kind of "how to" videos do you want to see? I'm a beginner rider myself, but I plan on documenting my progression and future trips. Do you have a bike?
Wow. I am looking at getting into biking to help with the exact thing you mention at the end! I am there. The connection and awareness lacking from mundane driving and life. I've just been made redundant and not sure whats next. A bike and some me time on the road is a start I feel. Great video and filming.
i really want this bike as a second to my cbr650 just for cruising in short distances in the city and also as a backup. i believe this uses the same engine with a cb500f, which was my first bike with a decent amount of torque. unfortunately they dont sell 500s anymore here in turkey because nobody wants low middle weight bikes when they can jump directly to 600s. enjoy and be safe man.
Thank you so much. New rider..well, got my endorsement some years ago. Now just want to ride around neighborhoods. Present. Right. Meditation. True. Phoenix is not a good riding in a car. But, PCH along ocean. How did you start the quiet. Thats me awful depression etc. Can I tell you,.as I'm watching you, as you ride, your saying exactly what I feel and need. As a guy to be so honest and up front about you is totally awesome!!!
The more I ride small displacement bikes the more I enjoy them. I have 7 bikes that range from and R3 to a Indian Chieftain. My R3 is the most fun of all of them and the smallest displacement. The thing about the R3 that I really am appreciative of is that it has 6 gears. I have a Yamaha bolt and Triumph Thruxton that are 5 speed and everyone can say you don't need a 6th gear and they are right. But, if you don't want to be buzzed to death on the highway an long rides it is a luxury to have.
Great video. Lovely use of cameras and music top & tail. Excellent voiceover. You sound like Brad Pitt. Flathead has just purchased a 2019 model and has been searching for someone who has completed such a review. He got the same screen (excellent), waiting for other gear from Thailand. He fitted an 8 inch handlebar, (from Thailand), and the nut to one cable for the throttle housing was too long - caused all sorts of frustration. Also, the rubber grommets that are between the triple clamp and the handlebar make for dangerous steering. He is going to get a stainless or alloy piece specially made to replace the rubber mounts. Otherwise the upgrades change the bike a little and he agrees with you a sissy bar is a necessity. Oh, he likes the small bag up front. Well done and stay positive, as comic and actor Robin Williams said in a movie - "Life is fleeting".
Thanks for the review man I been looking at this bike closely for about a few weeks now, I live in Hollister ca where we used to have a huge biker rally every year so I have always wanted a bike since I was a kid at those rallies. I also appreciate the personal details you threw in there I can surly relate. You just got yourself a new subscriber brotha. Maybe if I get my bike soon we can meet up and take a ride. Later man enjoy the ride ✌🏽
Great review man! Really enjoyed it! I'm also adding the V&H Slip On to my Rebel, but as of today (June 15th), they are on backorder again! I added the GP Shorty but it was a bit too loud for what I wanted.
I ride as well. Currently have an NC700X. I am an experienced Rider and I prefer smaller bikes. I have to agree with you about riding being meditative. I tell people the same thing. Thanks for the video and ride safe. 😊
I've been riding my rebel for almost a year. Just hit 3000 miles. Usually, 1st gear is 0-12, 2nd is 12-about25, 3rd is 25-40, 4th 40-55, 5th is 55-65, 6th is everything else I absolutely love this bike, best beginner street bike I could have ever found Also, great vid. You got yourself a new sub
This motor loves to rev it comes from the cb500r max tourque is at 7000rpm peak HP at 8500 and the limiter is right there at 8500 and she bounces. If you can handle the vibrations 3-4k rpm is cruising and use more from there. Rev limiter of each gear 1 - 36.2 mph 2 - 56.5 mph 3 - 74.3 mph 4 - 91.5 mph 5 - 103.4 mph 6 - 114 mph At 70 on the highway in 6th I believe is 4-5k so that is what you would aim for in the rest of the gears
Fantastic vlog....your very straight forward.....the camera work on the road and the slow transition makes the video more appealing....compared to other motor vloggers I watch...they move to fast with their camera making for a less enjoyable viewing...keep with the vlogging...👍
I really want this bike , I seen an older 250 for sale around my area then I looked up New ones and seen how cheap they are ! Definitely getting one of these next April or maybe for my birthday and Christmas:D
If you don't like the buzzy sound at 70 all you have to do is change sprocket size. You could go 1 or 2 teeth more on the front sprocket or you could go 3 or 4 teeth less on the back sprocket or do both for a big change. Then you will be able to ride at 70 or maybe more at less RPM and will have a relaxed highway ride. That's the great thing about chain drive. Are their downsides? It will accelerate just a tad slower but it won't be noticeable in normal day to day riding.
Thanks for sharing I really appreciated it both from the bike point of view and your personal point of view. It was great , informative and interesting. Cheers!
@@cameronmchugh4153 hey cameron! i am just thinking about buying the new model of rebel too! it looks awesome! and it looks like that they really fix every bad thing that people complained about so i cant wait for honda to sell this in my town ,Madrid!
@@sergiuulici3908 me too! I just wish I had some more money because $6499 is a decent chunk of money for me especially after buying all the gear I will need. But it will be worth it!!!
That exhaust sounds so good. I was torn between the Rebel 500 and Vulcan S as my first bike. Even though I ended up with the Vulcan S, the Rebel is such a cool looking bike to me. Ride safe.
Man, if you're worried by a few vibrations ... try Bikes like the Royal Enfield Classic 500's ... those are thumpers ... vibrations through hands as well as every other part of your body. That's how old school motorcycles felt, reminding you that you're sitting on top of an engine! Maybe look at your seat also ... could be resolved.
Hey buddy, nice review and nice gear on the bike. I'm ride a 2017 rebel 500 in the bay area so could relate a lot to this video. Keep the videos coming.
That commenting about meditation and riding. Man I've been through some dark times like the ones you're commenting on, and I have to say, spot on why I want to ride so bad, I need a bike cause I love being present, and I just don't feel the ol suv is cutting it anymore.
It's awesome to hear that your love for riding helped you through some difficult times. Very interesting fisheye effect in some of your scenes, love your video. Looking forward to seeing more!
