I’m 77 years old and I bought the Rebel 500 SE earlier this year. What a great cruiser bike it is, light weight, nimble and it sure looks the business, every time I take out I get admiring comments and glance’s. Not ridden a bike since 2001 when I had a severe Stroke and had to sell my Yamaha 900 XJ tourer. Three years ago I bought myself a BMW 1200cc trike and love every ride. Well, you know how it is, I miss riding a BIKE, so, looking at the reports on you tube for the Rebel 500 went to a Honda dealership and got myself the Rebel 500 SE. My first ride was a bit tentative, but, I found the bike was so easy and stable to ride and manoeuvre my initial worries about my competence was quickly forgotten about. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Honda 500 Rebel to new riders, those wanting to get back to motorcycling and those wanting to try a Cruiser, this bike is a joy to own and ride.

Fantastic story and points! That’s really cool that you got a Rebel to get back into riding on two wheels. I 100% agree, this bike is great for beginners, people getting back into motorcycles, or just riders in general wanting to try something different. It has the perfect balance in my opinion. Ride safe!

I just acquired Honda Rebel 500 SE as my first bike. I'm still learning. I started late in life. I'm in my 40's . My riding friends were talking smack about getting that bike. They were all recommending Rebel 1100 which is way too powerful and too heavy as my first bike. I'm a small female and I feel that Rebel 500 gives me the happy balance. It's powerful enough but not crazy heavy. I can handle it. It's actually about 100 lbs lighter than the HD Street 500 that I rode in my MFS class. It's a great looking bike too. I get a lot of " looks" while riding. Be safe out there!

I am 76 yrs old and I have been riding for over 58 yrs of my life I am now thinking of getting myself a smaller Bike than my last Heavy Harley, which I sold. and after watching your videos on this rebel, you! have sold me on this Bike. So, thank you very much, and keep riding safe, and may the lord's angels always be your wings. God Bless you and your family. I bought a 2023 Rebel 500, one of the first mods I did was to put a Mustang seat on it, perfect seat for the bike. Only about 1000 miles on mine, but zero regrets. Same as you, loved the look, minute I saw it I knew I was getting one. Another suggestion if you feel like the mid controls can get uncomfortable, look into a forward controls modification, like the one from Red Dragon. I put those on, and that with the Mustang seat, made the ride perfect.

Ive got a 2022. Good bike, a bit physically small, but the hardest (choose your adjective) seat ever put on a bike. Steel is softer... You could sit on a board of nails and not be in more pain, at least then you'd get relief when you pass out from blood loss... Rode from Fargo to Bismarck last summer (3hr) ouch! Rode back with 3 layers of bubble wrap taped to that thing...

Yeah, I agree. I don’t know why they don’t at least give you a factory option to upgrade to something better. "Beginner bike" in most forums I've read means "smaller". However, your definition is better not just for a beginner bike, but ANY bike. I had a Rebel 500 and loved it - but I moved to something larger because I use my bike as a commuter vehicle, and a lot of my ride unfortunately is highway, and a heaver machine feels more stable. If I was riding in town, or not on highway I would probably have just kept my 500. It was reliable, had some decent HP for a smaller machine and was super easy to ride. The braking was excellent, and shifting was precise and clean. I did my own oil changes and it was super easy.

I'm fairly new to motorcycles. The first bike I ever actually rode was two years ago during my MSF course and it was a Z125 which is basically Kawasaki's Grom clone. It was fun but IMHO it was a terrible beginner bike due to the unforgiving clutch and tiny size making any other bike seem huge. When I got my 2021 Rebel 500 it seemed huge coming from the little Z125 and I felt intimidated by it at first but I got used to it pretty quick and before long I grew to appreciate it's actual light weight and easy handling compared to bigger bikes I would later test ride like Harley-Davidson's Fat Bob. It is probably the best starter bike there is because it's fairly cheap. Not huge but not tiny either. Has a good amount of power for the kind of bike it is, has 6 gears too, handles well, clutch is really smooth. Accessories are cheap and easy to install. Gets good gas milage. I eventually traded it for an Indian Scout Rogue a couple months ago.

@evergreenmoto Год назад
I think it handles 70 totally fine. In fact, I have a video coming out soon where I take it on a long distance ride and it does really well. I don’t have a tachometer yet, so I’m not 100% sure, but I recall barely twisting the throttle and probably sitting around 3k rpm’s while riding in 6th gear in the 70s. Still plenty of power left for sure. I haven’t really had experience with those bikes (while they look pretty cool) but I will say, for highway riding, you want to make sure you have 6 gears. I have a buddy who has a 5 gear Yamaha V-Star and you really have to rev it up to go 70-75 on the highway, not great for long distances. Since the Rebel 500 is liquid cooled with 6 gears, it does totally fine on the highway. Hope this helps!

I don’t think it’s a huge deal if you don’t, but I do have friends who started on bikes without abs and their brakes have locked up a few times. You just need to be a lot more careful with the breaks, but it is a good way to practice progressive breaking. I’ve only had my abs go off a handful of times before since I got my bike, but you never know. I recommend that you do some research and consider all of the factors. Good luck!

I'm looking to get this bike next summer. I've been riding my z125 for a little over a year, but I'm pretty much a full throttle on the way to work because I have to go on a local highway with a 45mph speed limit and people drive 50-60. I need a bit more power and it would be nice to be able to go on the freeway too PS. I'm also in the PNW
@evergreenmoto

Yeah, 100%! The Rebel 500 will do awesome on the highway and freeway. It should have plenty of power to be a commuter. That’s awesome! Where are you at in the PNW?

So I decided my first motorcycle should be a super cub so I bought one it’s a 2020. It had 9 miles on it when I bought it and now it’s got about 4500 miles since the beginning of October of last year, so my plan is to ride this puppy for a couple years and then I’m gonna get the Honda rebel 500 but I’m definitely gonna keep the cub. And with the 500 I should be able to go on any highway in the United States. The cub can’t really do that but it is a great little bike though it will get you anywhere you wanna go on the road that is? It just won’t do it fast i ride it absolutely everywhere all the time.

@@evergreenmoto thank you still trying to convince my coworkers. It is a small motorcycle but they don’t believe me even though Honda says so and I’m like but guys it’s got gears and I have to use them. And I have been taking safety seriously I have a very good helmet and other safety gear I wear on a regular basis. I did my research a lot before I bought this bike. My goal was to get the most inexpensive, reliable and economical all around bike that I could and the cub is what I came up with, and also the things that kill motorcycle riders, the most are drinking riding which I will never do and high speed which the cub cannot do so I figured the two things that kill motorcycle riders the most can’t get me not that other things can’t, of course. Apparently, the guy bought it for his girlfriend, and in his words, she was petrified of the cub. I’m not sure why I have found that I am not as scared of it. I mean, it is a piece of machinery. It has no self driving features. It does whatever I physically tell it to do. I have found that it gets anywhere from 60 to 100 miles a gallon depending on how I ride it if I ride it as fast as I possibly can it’s towards the 60 end of the spectrum but if I’m going like 35 and fourth gear and keep it there it gets closer to 100 per gallon. So far, I have replaced the chain rear tire and I recently did a valve adjustment which it technically didn’t need but you’re supposed to check it every 4000 miles. I do an oil change every 2000 miles but when I first got it, I did an oil change at 300 miles and 600 miles for the break-in. So I’m basically cutting the oil change intervals in half because I want the thing to last, and it only takes a quart of oil. And I’ve adjusted the chain before I replaced it and I have adjusted the rear brakes numerous times but that’s OK not difficult to do. I also added a rear rack and a 65 L locking waterproof box which I love that thing. Soon I’m gonna put a little front rack on it and a tiny box in the front. Oh, and I also added a side stand. Which is definitely convenient.

How much difference does the windscreen make? I’d be going from a Suzuki Burgman 400 with a windscreen that’s like a 4’x8’ sheet of plexi to nothing. At 58 years old My highway days are pretty much over, I just enjoy short trips on the 45 mph northern Wi backroads, but still would like some wind protection as I get cold easy.
@mikem9953
@mikem9953 Год назад
To add to that, my Burgman is sooo heavy that I’d rather take my Honda Monkey 9 out of 10 times because of the ease of getting it out and back in my garage. I believe my Burgman is 500 pounds! Seriously. That’s a heavy ‘scooter’.

Year for sure!! I think the 500 is an awesome bike and is a great all around cruiser. It does great on the highway, is super nimble, and a ton of fun. If you are looking for something with a bit more power, take a look at the Rebel 1100, it’s got a few more features like cruise control and different riding modes. You might want something with a bit more power since you are coming from a sportbike. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either one though. Let me know what you decide!
